Objective. To assess the relationship between the nutritional status and eating habits of children aged from five to ten years old and their mothers, living in rural areas. Methods. A cross-sectional study conducted with 156 children aged from five to ten years old, registered in the Family Health Strategies of the rural area of the Municipality of Divinópolis-MG (Brazil) from July 2017 to April 2018. Results. The prevalence of excess weight was 27.5%. The following parameters were significantly associated with excess weight in the children: maternal waist circumference (OR=1.04), protein consumption (OR=1.02), irregular consumption of natural juice (OR=5.05), and the most favored socioeconomic level, C1 social stratum (OR=3.54). Regarding the correlation between nutrient intake of the children and their mothers, most of the correlations were weak to moderate, being statistically significant for all the dietary components evaluated (r=0.185 to 0.496). Conclusion. Maternal nutritional status was related to the child’s excess weight and a weak to moderate correlation was observed for nutrient intake among the children and their mothers. A high prevalence of children with excess weight was observed in the rural areas. The results point to the need to implement collective approaches, targeted at rural families, so as to prevent this problem.

AbstractObjectiveTo assess the nutritional status of Tunisian adolescents and associated factors.DesignA cross-sectional study based on a national stratified random cluster sample.Subjects and methodsIn all, 1295 boys and 1577 girls aged 15–19 years, of whom 28·4 % had already left school. Socio-economic characteristics of the parents, anthropometric measurements, food behaviours and physical activity of the adolescents were recorded during home visits.ResultsPrevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity (WHO/National Center for Health Statistics reference) were, respectively, 8·1 %, 17·4 % and 4·1 % among boys and 1·3 %, 20·7 % and 4·4 % among girls; abdominal obesity was highly prevalent among both sexes. Prevalence of overweight differed by region (from 11·5 % to 22·2 %) and was higher in urban v. rural areas for males (21·7 % v. 10·4 %) but not for females (21·7 % v. 19·2 %). These differences were partially mediated by socio-economic and lifestyle factors for males. For females, influence of cultural factors is hypothesised. In rural areas, overweight was more prevalent among boys of higher economic level households, having a working mother or a sedentary lifestyle; for girls, prevalence increased with the level of education of the mother. In urban areas, prevalence of overweight was related to eating habits: it was higher for boys with irregular snacking habits and for girls skipping daily meals. Urban girls having left school were also more overweight.ConclusionOverweight and abdominal obesity in late adolescence have become a true public health problem in Tunisia with the combined effects of cultural tradition for girls in rural areas, and of rapid economic development for boys and girls in cities.

<p>The general objective of this study was to analyze house condition, eating habits, nutrition nutritional status and health status of underfive children in Tamansari, Bogor. This research is part of the research entitlet “A Multi-Approach Intervention to Empower and Posyandu Nutritional Program to Combat Malnutrition Problem in Rural Areas” was conducted on February 2012 by a cross sectional study design. Subject of this study were 120 mothers and underfive children selected by purposive sampling with criterias (1) family who have underfive children, (2) registered as posyandu participant, (3) willing for interviewed. The primary data was number of family member, income, age, education, occupation, underfive children gender and age, housing conditions, eating habits, nutritional and health status. The analysis was carried out by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The house condition had significant effect on nutritional status (p&lt;0.05). Eating habits had significant effect on nutritional status (p&lt;0.05). Nutritional status had significant influence to health status (p&lt;0.05).</p>

As part of the 2030 Agenda, higher education has been conceptualised as one of the ways to overcome the social disparities experienced in rural areas in Colombia. Thus, in concordance with the benefits of this level of education, the state has been designing public policies during the last few years, in order to facilitate access to undergraduate programmes to these populations, focusing mainly on the implementation of the virtual modality. In this context, it is recognised that access itself is not enough, but that continuance and timely graduation are required to materialise the benefits obtained along with a higher education degree; hence, dropout is a subject of interest for study, especially due to the high rates existing in the rural student population. Therefore, the event of dropout becomes an obstacle to social change and transformation in rural areas. Thus, this article aimed to identify which individual, institutional, academic and socio-economic characteristics influence rural student dropout in virtual undergraduate programmes in Colombia. For this purpose, an exploratory, quantitative and cross-sectional study was proposed, with a sample of 291 students to whom a student characterisation instrument and a classroom evaluation instrument were applied. With these data, it was proceeded to establish which of them had deserted, constituting the extraction of the sample of the study, which were 168. With the information, an exploratory factor analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis and descriptive statistics were used to establish which explanatory variables are involved in the dropout of this type of student. The results showed that the academic variables analysed do not have an impact on the event, while marital status (associated with family obligations), age, social stratum, work obligations, parents’ level of education and type of work, income and type of employment relationship of the student, and, finally, the number of people who depend on the family’s income do.

A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess relationship between socio-demographic factors and nutritional status of adolescent of the rural areas. Respondents were from selected villages of Tangail district with a sample size of 108 using an interviewer administered semi- structured questionnaire employing purposive sampling method. Nutritional statuses of the respondents were measured by Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI of the respondents were calculated on the basis of the height and weight of the respondents. Majority of the respondents (63.9%) were under weight on the basis of BMI and were associated with family monthly income, father’s occupation, and house type where the respondents live. On the other hand, health and nutritional status which is calculated by Body Mass Index is associated to sex of the respondents, family monthly income and respondent’s education level.

Background: Adolescence is a period with rapid growth drive and demands higher nutrition. Improving Nutritional status of rural adolescent girls becomes the cornerstone of community’s nutritional status and target intervention for breaking intergeneration cycle of nutritional deficiencies. The objective of the study was to determine nutritional status and study the demographic factors affecting nutritional status of rural adolescent girls in Dharwad district.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 350 adolescent school girls studying in eight high schools in rural area of Dharwad district during July – September 2017. Demographic profile and dietary pattern was obtained. Anthropometric measurement and clinical examination was done. Statistical analysis was done using SSPS package.Results: Study found 14.9% of rural adolescent girls were under- weight for their age. Based on BMI, 25.2% of girls were under-nourished and 3.7% were over nourished. Significant relation with age, type of diet and age of menarche was found at p value <0.05.Conclusions: There is high prevalence of under nutrition among adolescent girls and is under nutrition is associated with micronutrient deficiencies like anaemia. There is need to create awareness to improve the nutritional needs of adolescent girls in rural areas.

Nutrient intake can be used as an indicator of students health status. Imbalance adequacy level of nutrients can cause nutritional problems, both malnutrition and overnutrition. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between adequacy level of energy and macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate) with nutritional status of female students at Islamic Boarding School Al-Izzah high school in Batu City. This study was an observational with cross sectional study design. Fourty-fi ve female students were chosen as a sample of the study and it was obtained by simple random sampling. Data respondent characteristics, adequacy level of energy, and macronutrients (through plate waste and recall meassurement), and nutritional status were collected in this study. The data analysis used was Spearman rank. The result showed that most of the students had inadequate intake of energy and macronutrients, and their nutritional status were normal. There was a signifi cant correlation between the adequacy level of energy (p = 0.049, r = 0.296), protein (p = 0.028, r = 0.328), fat (p = 0.049, r = 0.296), and carbohydrate (p = 0.02, r = 0.345) with the nutritional status. The conclusion is respondent’s nutritional status is determined by the adequacy level of energy andmacronutrients intake. This study advised respondents to increase to the portions of meals, such as rice, side dish, and vegetables to achieve an adequate level of energy and macronutrients.Keywords: adequacy level of energy, adequacy level of macronutrients, the nutritional status

ABSTRACT Indonesia still faces a double burden of malnutrition where malnutrition problems still exist, and the prevalence of obesity continues to increase. The study was intended to evaluate the association between fat intake adequacy and nutritional status in children aged 6 months to 12 years with a middle to upper socioeconomic level. The study design was cross-sectional study using secondary data from the Basic Health Research in 2013 and  Indonesian Food Consumption Survey in 2014. The results of the study concluded that more than 50 percent of children aged 6 months to 9 years and 38 percent of children aged 10-12 years old consumed  fat  more than 100 percent of Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). The study revealed a signidficant association between  fat intake and body mass index for age Z-score (BAZ)  (p <0.05) and fat intake with height for age Z-score (HAZ)  (p <0.05). Fat intake of children live in urban was higher than at rural areas (p <0.05) and fat intake of boys was slightly  higher than girls. The results of this study suggest  the importance of providing nutrition education started from elementary school students on balanced nutrient intake and reduce fat intake, because obesity in early age contribute to obesity in adulthood. Keywords: children aged 6 month to12 years old, fat intake, nutritional status   ABSTRAK Indonesia menghadapi masalah gizi ganda yaitu masalah gizi kurang masih ada, dan  persentase masalah kegemukan terus meningkat. Tujuan dari analisis ini untuk melihat kecukupan asupan lemak anak usia 6 bulan sampai 12 tahun dengan tingkat sosial ekonomi menengah keatas dan hubungannya dengan status gizi. Desain penelitian adalah potong lintang, jenis data yang digunakan data sekunder dari Riskesdas 2013 dan Survey Konsumsi Makanan Indonesia (SKMI) 2014.  Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa lebih dari 50 persen anak usia 6 bulan-9 tahun dan 38 persen anak usia 10-12 tahun mengonsumsi lemak ≥ 100 persen AKG. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat asupan lemak dengan status gizi menurut indikator IMT/U (p<0,05) dan asupan lemak dengan status gizi TB/U (p<0,05). Asupan lemak anak yang tinggal di kota lebih tinggi dari pada di perdesaan (p<0,05) dan asupan lemak anak laki-laki lebih tinggi dari anak perempuan (p<0,05). Hasil penelitian ini memberikan bukti tentang pentingnya  memberikan edukasi kepada siswa sekolah dasar tentang makanan gizi seimbang dan mengurangi asupan lemak, karena kegemukan pada usia dini akan terbawa hingga usia dewasa. Aims: The study aims to prove the correlation between demographic factors and the eating habits of the elderly in Aceh, Indonesia. Study Design:  A cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in Aceh Barat district, Aceh province-Indonesia between June and October 2019. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was carried out by involving the elderly (age of 60 years or above) in 483 participants. Bivariate analysis was conducted through a chi-square test using SPSS version 21 to answer the research hypothesis. Results: Four hundred and eighty three (483) elderly people with mean age of 69.76 years were enrolled, of these, 68.9% were women and 58.2% were unemployed. Fifty-nine percent of respondents live in rural areas and 64.39% had good eating habits. Finding unveiled that age had a significant correlation with eating habits (P=0,05), gender did not correlate with eating habits (P>0,05). Occupation correlated with eating habits (P=0.05), and area of residence correlated with eating habits (P=0,05).. Conclusion: The study concluded that younger age (60-69 years old), employed, and living in urban areas positively contribute to establishing healthy eating habits in the elderly in Aceh. Furthermore, it is necessary to conduct intervention studies in the occupation variable as a modifiable variable.
