AbstractUser-centered approaches to design can guide teams toward an understanding of users and aid teams in better posing design problems. This paper investigates the role of user-centered design approaches in design process and outcome within the context of design team projects. The value of interaction with users is examined at several stages throughout the design process. The influence of user-centered design on the performance of design teams is also explored. Results suggest that the quantity of interactions with users and time spent interacting with users alone is not linked with better design outcome, but that iterative evaluation of concepts by users may be of particular value to design prototypes. Suggestions are made based on the reflections from the authors after conducting this study.

In Indonesia, there has been a significant increase in positive confirmed cases of Covid-19 caused by mutations in the Alpha, Beta and Delta variants. The uncontrolled spread has overwhelmed hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients. Hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients, making many people hesitate to check their health conditions. Geo-COVID is a one-stop application that aims to make it easier for the public to access health consultations, buy drugs online so as to reduce activities outside the home, PCR testing from home, transparency of information on the spread of COVID-19 cases, and sharing with families affected by COVID-19. The method used in the Geo-COVID architecture is User Centered Design. User Centered Design is a system design method that focuses on potential users. The stages used in achieving application goals in Geo-COVID design are Understanding the Context of Use, Determining User Needs, Design Solutions, Design Evaluation of User Needs. The target users of the Geo-COVID application are Indonesian people who are active outside the home and often interact with many individuals. The Geo-COVID application is oriented towards user experience which is limited to the Covid-19 distribution map in Indonesia, public health services, using a GUI interface type.

Research in the ICT4D field implicates lack of user-centered design in the high rate of ICTD project failure. The field of user experience (UX) offers potentially fruitful approaches for user-centered design. In the ICTD context, these principles and methods clash with the triple constraints of project management (time, scope and funding). This paper introduces the user persona from UX design as a powerful tool for considering the user's perspective within resource-constrained ICTD projects. Although personas appear simple, they introduce complex communicative affordances, pragmatic benefits, and risks to ICTD projects. A brief conclusion revisits the larger problem of ICTD project failure, and considers the potential role of personas in addressing this problem.

Currently, flexibility and time to market have become the new keys to product development. The need for versatility, low overheads, and direct customer communication has led to the birth of an emerging breed of organizations that employ a virtual product development model (VPDM). This paper explores the role of user-centered design within a VPDM being used in an actual industrial organization, and is based on the experiences of the authors working in that organization. It also discusses possible user-centered evaluation methods, and the factors that influence their use in this model. Finally, it provides recommendations for a more seamless integration of user-centered design within this model.

Therefore, elderly need help in maintaining their physical health. Technology development has made it possible and more affordable for many people to manage their health using their smartphones. Currently, there are many mobile applications that can be used to help users take care of their heath, such as healthy lifestyle, and online doctor. However, not many elderly take advantage of these applications. Some of them undergo technological leap, and lack confidence in their shavvines. Therefore, it is necessary to design an application that is easy to use and less intimidating to the elderly. One way to do this is by designing icons that are easily understood by the elderly. This research studied different design approaches that are suitable for the elderly, using a user centered design approach. The study found that respondents could better understand icons that were designed using the exemplar approach, represented in concrete and 3D form, and has xhdpi size with success rate above 70%.</em></p><p><strong><br /></strong></p>

Web technology and internet networks have made web applications the main tool in daily activities. But developing applications with limited time often leads to neglecting the role of the user, which causes a lack of attention to aspects of usability, which results in the failure of the application to meet the needs and desires of the user. In this study we developed an application for submitting credit number determination proposals for engineering functional positions by combining Incremental Prototyping and User Centered Design methods. The results show that the application can meet the usability aspects so that it is easily understood and used in submitting and evaluating proposed credit numbers.
