Remote psychological counseling with the use of telehealth technologies may be considered as one of the types of psychological and educational work with children. Due to the limitations of receiving full-time psychological and educational services, remote counseling may be the only available alternative support form for families of children with autism. This review of the Russian and international literature aims to reveal the general advantages and limitations of remote psycho-educational work and to identify existing protocols for conducting counseling. The data on studies in the field of online work with autistic children are presented. Concluded, that for successful online counseling of families of autistic children, four key conditions are necessary: professional qualities of a consultation provider, taking into account the family environment of the child, the presence of measurable characteristics of the intervention and the possibility of face-to-face interaction with the child.

Autism Spectrum Disorders are increasingly known in developing countries like Bangladesh. The children with autism exhibit significant deficits in social communication, including delayed language development and imitation skills. This disorder is different from other disorders and its characteristics and functions are also different. Families having children with autism spectrum disorder play important role in their socialization and face many challenges as the disorder is associated with disruptive antisocial behavior. The main objective of this research is to know the role of family in socializing autistic children. This research was conducted though survey method by using a semi-structured questionnaire. The data of this study was collected from 78 parents having children with autism spectrum disorder. In our country autism newly introduced and research on autism especially role of the family of the autistic children in socialization are very few. So, this study discusses the role of family in socializing autistic children.

Child's development of adequate spatial perception is a current problem since it is a crucial element of school program. The article contains sequence and content of educational work that deals with finding a way of motivating the child, increase skills of planning, organizing, sequencing, prioritizing and shifting attention.

Environmental factors have been increasingly identi ed as the cause of the current high prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand parents’ perceptions regarding environmental in uence and autism. Methods: We conducted individual, face-to-face interviews with parents of children with ASD in Eastern North Carolina. Results: Our sample is comprised of 25 parents of children with autism with an average age of 39.08 and 68% were mothers. Our data indicated that 19 (76%) parents believed that environmental factors impacted the development of their children’s autism, half of whom indicated >50% of influence. Among these environmental triggers, food and water (52%), air pollution (40%), pesticides and cleaning products (20%) were the most identied contributing factors associated with the onset of autism. Conclusions: Our findings reflected some unmet needs to improve parental awareness of environmental triggers of ASD.

Background: The birth of an exceptional child in a family can decrease the mental well-being of family members. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the family-centered problem-solving intervention on the mental well-being of the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental research with a pre-test, post-test, follow-up design and a control group. The statistical population of the study included all the mothers of children with autism disorder in Kermanshah City. Using the purposeful sampling method, we selected 30 mothers of autistic children studying at a rehabilitation center and randomly assigned them into the two groups of experimental (n=15) and control (n=15). In this study, the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson et al., 1988) were used to measure mental well-being. After collecting the pre-test data of the mothers in the experimental group, 10 2-hour sessions (for a month) of family-centered problem-solving programs were administered. Also, the post-test and follow-up phases were executed after the end of the sessions and a 1-month interval, respectively. Finally, the obtained data were analyzed considering the repeated measures design. Results: The results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores in the variable studied. However, the post-test and follow-up scores did not significantly differ in the variable studied. Conclusion: The results of this study supported the effectiveness of family-centered problem-solving training intervention on mental well-being and its subscales. Therefore, the family-centered problem-solving training program is of great importance as a preventive program.

High-quality psychological and pedagogical support of a child is impossible without work with the family. The process of organizing of psychological and pedagogical support for families raising children with autism spectrum disorders in the resource center of the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children "Nadezhda" in Volzhsky, Volgograd Region is described. The process of psychological and pedagogical support of families includes: diagnostics, informational support, teaching parents of competencies in raising and educating of children, involving parents in everyday correctional and development process, leisure activities. The role of interaction between specialists and parents, as well as role of the “School of Effective Parenting”, held in the “Nadezhda” Center emphasized in improving the quality of life of the family.

The research was motivated because of every year the population of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) continues to increase. An autism spectrum disorder characterized by three impairments (triad of impairments) are impairment of social communication, impairment of social interaction and behavior. The impact of stress on the family as for their children with GSA disorder can occur either internally or externally. Goal of research is a model of early intervention to enhance social interaction and communication skills of children with GSA. The method used is the Research and Development, with a primary emphasis on the qualitative approach, descriptive analysis, by interview and observation. The results showed that there are parents who initially could not accept, and even today is still not able to accept the children unconditionally and their stress because of confusion how to communicate with their children, but if there is a problem that must be faced by families support each other, think together solution. Early intervention is not well developed in the family, parents prefer intervention by the therapist rather than doing it yourself.

Original teaching materials with dot codes were created for use with autistic children with intellectual and expressive language disabilities. One of the authors (S. I.) created “Post-it” sticker icons on which dot codes were printed and shared these with teachers of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Each sticker icon was linked with up to four multimedia mediums of expression, such as a movie, in addition to up to four voices/sounds. Touching a dot code icon with a speaking-pen enables audios to be replayed, and touching a dot code icon with a dot-code reader with Bluetooth functionality enables multimedia to be replayed on iOS and Windows OS devices. New software to create self-made teaching materials with dot codes was developed by Gridmark Inc., with the help of author S. I. Basic information on creating original teaching materials using this newly developed software and its use in schools for students with ASD are presented in this chapter.

Children with autism have a high rate of irritability and aggressive symptoms. Irritability or self-injurious behavior can result in significant harm to those affected, as well as to marked distress for their families. This paper provides a literature review regarding the efficacy and tolerability of pharmacotherapy for the treatment of irritability in autistic children. Although antipsychotics have not yet been approved for the treatment of autistic children by many countries, they are often used to reduce symptoms of behavioral problems, including irritability, aggression, hyperactivity, and panic. However, among antipsychotics, the Food and Drug Administration has approved only risperidone and aripiprazole to treat irritability in autism. Among atypical antipsychotics, olanzapine and quetiapine are limited in their use for autism spectrum disorders in children because of high incidences of weight gain and sedation. In comparison, aripiprazole and ziprasidone cause less weight gain and sedation. However, potential QTc interval prolongation with ziprasidone has been reported. Contrary to ziprasidone, no changes were evident in the QT interval in any of the trials for aripiprazole. However, head-to-head comparison studies are needed to support that aripiprazole may be a promising drug that can be used to treat irritability in autistic children. On the other hand, risperidone has the greatest amount of evidence supporting it, including randomized controlled trials; thus, its efficacy and tolerability has been established in comparison with other agents. Further studies with risperidone as a control drug are needed.
