In this article, the authors examined the relation between Personal Branding efforts in LinkedIn and their job prospects. While there are other social media sites which can be taken into consideration for the study, LinkedIn is deemed to be a purely professional social networking site with content relevant to jobs, industry, economy etc. The authors found that sizable LinkedIn users do not post, share or visit content with the intent of “Building Personal Brand”, however wishes to attract the attention of potential recruiters on the platform. While the term “Personal Branding has been discussed in numerous papers, journals and articles, broader clarity is guaranteed on the same. Additionally, it was duly noted that a person looking for a job doesn’t trust LinkedIn entirely and thus signs up on various other established job portals or seek suitable referrals at the same time.   “Your brand has moved online. That means you need to translate who you are in the real world into a congruent bits-and-bytes version of you. First impressions are important to your career success, so whether they take place with a handshake or on a handheld device, you need to make sure yours is authentic, compelling, and relevant.”, said Mitch Joel in his book ‘Ctrl, Alt, Delete’.   “It is much more than a style of dress, a particular degree or credential, or the associations to which you belong. Mainly it is the unique “stamp” you put on everything you say or do. Because no one will do things and present themselves in exactly the same way that you do, your uniqueness is what people notice”- Annabelle Reitman and Caitlin Williams on Personal Branding in their periodical journal ‘Distinguish yourself and excel in the profession’.   Author Neal Schaffer in his journal “LinkedIn or Left Out” shares his view on LinkedIn by stating- “It is much more than a style of dress, a particular degree or credential, or the associations to which you belong. Mainly it is the unique “stamp” you put on everything you say or do. Because no one will do things and present themselves in exactly the same way that you do, your uniqueness is what people notice.”   Further legal trainer Avery Black feels “The most effective way to start your job search is by developing relationships with people. The Internet, through professional websites like LinkedIn and social media sites like Face-book and Twitter, allows people to start a dialogue with each other.”   The above quotes individually bring out the core pointers of this literature- “LinkedIn” and “Personal Branding” and “Job Search”. “Branding” which audiences still relate to tangible products have slowly seeped into individuals. Individuals are making informed decisions and suitable actions in order to attract the attention of a specific set of people which in this case are job recruiters.

Reddit, known as “the front page of the Internet,” has been one of the most widely visited Web sites since its inception in 2005. As a social networking site it is unique in that the personal relationships between its users are considered secondary to its content, which includes both original, user-generated content and links to outside sources. Although previous research has investigated other social networking platforms in depth, relatively little has been written on Reddit. The present research considers a variety of indicators, including text readability, emoticon usage, and domain linkage. It was found that the most popular communities on Reddit behave very differently from each other, in terms of language sophistication, sentiment, and topicality (as measured by top-level links to outside sources). The results can be used to inform future investigations of online discourse spaces, particularly those in the contemporary social media sphere.

Social media is a new platform for CEOs to build their image and create a strong personal brand to represent themselves and their company. This research examines an outstanding Malaysian fashion icon and social media–savvy businesswoman with over a million followers on Instagram, Vivy Yusof, the youngest Malaysian e-commerce mogul and an example of a successful CEO who has used personal branding to build an empire in the fashion industry. The objectives of this research are to identify the type of messages Vivy Yusof communicates to her audience through her personal Instagram posts and to identify the ways Vivy Yusof’s audience engages with her posts on Instagram. Her Instagram post content is classified using the Honeycomb framework that comprises seven functional building blocks, namely, presence, relationships, reputation, groups, identity, conversations, and sharing. In this study, the content of Vivy Yusof’s Instagram posts is categorized by how she focuses on the various functional building blocks in her posts and the implications these blocks have on how her audience interacts with the posts. Her social media presence confirms the importance of CEO personal branding because of her role and influence on the masses evidenced by the willingness of her followers to interact (through likes and comments) and engage with her posts on any subject matter, relating either to her business or personal life. The study contributes to a growing body of literature on personal branding strategies by shedding light on the association between content strategies and engagement with social media content.

Abstract. The use of social networking sites such as LinkedIn in recruitment is ubiquitous. This practice may hold risks for older job seekers. Not having grown up using the internet and having learned how to use social media only in middle adulthood may render them less versed in online self-presentation than younger job seekers. Results of this research show some differences and many similarities between younger and older job seekers' impression management on their LinkedIn profiles. Nevertheless, independent of their impression management efforts, older job seekers received fewer job offers than younger job seekers. Only using a profile photo with a younger appearance reduced this bias. Implications for the role of job seeker age in online impression management and recruitment are discussed.

Purpose: A Social Networking Site (also social networking service or social media) is a platform to make people connected and share anything about them. The purpose of this research to construct a framework for the Development of Social Networking Site Skill to help women in rural areas to face the growth of ICT. This paper discusses how the proposed framework can help them to develop their skills of marketing using the SNS. This kind of effort, hopefully could empower the targeted marginalized group with the knowledge of information engineering, increase their awareness and utilization of ICT in their everyday actions. Methodology: The data obtained are the result of on-going projects in Setiu Wetlands, Terengganu.  Community rural women in Setiu Wetlands are respondent for this study. A total of 30 people (identified as women entrepreneurs) were respondents and profile data was preliminary studies about the skills and existing ICT literacy and internet use. Main Findings: Based on profiling data that have been collected, a framework for the development of skills in using social media as a business medium has been developed. Implications/Applications: The framework developed is expected to produce successful entrepreneurs from rural women communities. The entrepreneur will be an example to other women. This effort also is expected to help rural women community can improve the living standards of their families.

The purpose of this paper is to provide an understanding of the Web 2.0 phenomenon and social media and its implications on customer relationship management, in order to learn that online communities and social networking are at the core of the enterprise of future or Enterprise 2.0. A range of published articles and books regarding Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, CRM 2.0 and social networking are examined and critiqued. A model is proposed to establish the association between Enterprise 2.0 and Information Technology from the perspective of social media. The sources are divided into three basic elements: Web 2.0, Online Social Networking websites and CRM 2.0. If Enterprise 2.0 is the enterprise of future then Social Media is the future of enterprise. Customer engagement and customer value proposition form the core of Enterprise 2.0 and online communities and social media form the corresponding core for knowledge creation and integration of Enterprise 2.0. Social media should affect customer relationship management in organizations. In the knowledge society of the future extended enterprises will become the basis of business rather than the competitive strength of individual enterprises and therefore the need to proactively prepare for it.

According to the National Research Corporation, 1 in 5 Americans use social media sites to obtain healthcare information. Patients can easily access information on medical conditions and medical professionals; however physicians may not be aware of the nature and impact of this information. All physicians must learn to use the Internet to their advantage and be acutely aware of the disadvantages. Surgeons are in a unique position because, unlike in the primary care setting, less time is spent developing a long-term relationship with the patient. In this literature review, we discuss the impact of the Internet, social networking websites, and physician rating websites and make recommendations for surgeons about managing digital identity and maintaining professionalism.

Altmetrics are a relatively new phenomenon in research. These metrics measure the attention that research articles receive from nontraditional venues such as social media and the Internet. This study examined how these metrics affect both the readership and citation of articles in communication research. The study examined citation data alongside altmetrics data from academic social networking sites ResearchGate and Mendeley, as well as mentions on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Results indicated that all altmetrics positively correlated with citation. Posting articles on sites such as ResearchGate and Mendeley not only impacted readership, it increased the likelihood of citation. Other variables that improved readership and citation were social media mentions, downloadable articles, coauthorship, and an active online presence among scholars.

Abstract In this study, I will introduce the concept of affective atmospheres previously developed by Anderson (Emot Space Soc 2:77–81, 2009) and Anderson and Ash (2015), to explore young social media users’ articulated experiences of aggressive behaviour on a popular social networking site in Sweden. This concept opens up for inquiring into bullying, and other aggressive behaviour, as encounters, not only between humans, but also with non-human bodies, and the potentialities to act and the affective states that such meetings enable. In this way the paper contributes to bullying research on school climate and social atmosphere. The paper applies an affect theory approach to atmosphere to explore the importance of different materialities for the production of feelings and emotions surrounding the everyday articulations of hate among these users. The findings suggest that hate, in this context, works through a sexualized and gendered affective regime, which enforces a chrononormative logic, through which temporalized norms are tied to notions of age and bodily growth, that is, through heteronormative expectations of femininity, masculinity, sexuality and age-appropriateness. I found that affordances such as anonymity facilitated and intensified the circulation of hate, feeding into an atmosphere of constant risk. However, I also detail how affordances such as anonymity and hyperlinking, and practices such as hashtagging, enabled expressions of friendship, love and support, thus counter-balancing an atmosphere of hate and enabling it to become bearable for certain targeted users. In this context, sexualized aggression is normalized and expected, but nonetheless also troubled and resisted by these young users. By applying the concept of atmosphere, the paper sheds light on the affective workings within social online settings that become saturated with sexualized and aggressive practices, where certain users become repeated targets of such practices.

This article investigates the use of social media for visual framing of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Using a large set of visual data from a popular social networking site, Vkontakte, the authors employ content analysis to examine how the conflict was represented and interpreted in pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian online communities during the peak of violence in summer 2014. The findings point to the existence of profound differences in framing the conflict among pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian online communities. The former tended to interpret the conflict as a limited military action against local insurgents, whereas the latter presented it as an all-out war against the Russian population of Eastern Ukraine. The article suggests that framing the conflict through social media facilitated the propagation of mutually exclusive views on the conflict and led to the formation of divergent expectations in Ukraine and Russia concerning the outcome of the war in Donbas.
