Prior studies have primarily used "variable-centered" perspectives to identify factors underlying user responses to social networking site (SNS) addiction, their predictors and outcomes. This paper extends this perspective by taking a person-centered approach to examine (1) the prototypical subpopulations (profiles) of users' extent of SNS addiction and responses to it, (2) how affiliations with these profiles can explain user behaviors toward SNS use, and (3) how personality traits can predict affiliations with these profiles. To this end, we propose a typological theory of SNS addiction and user responses to it via two empirical, personcentered studies. Study 1 draws on survey data from 188 SNS users to develop a typology of users based on the extent of their SNS addiction and their responses to it. It further examines the relations between affiliation with these profiles and users' SNS discontinuance intention, as a typical behavioral response to SNS addiction. Study 2 uses survey data from 284 SNS users to validate the user typology developed in Study 1 and investigate its relations to users' Big Five personality traits. Our findings shed light on a typology of five prototypical profiles of SNS users-cautious, regular, consonant, dissonant, and hooked-who differ in their extent of SNS addiction and their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to it. Our findings also demonstrate how Big Five personality traits can predict user affiliations with these prototypical profiles.

Facebook was established in 2004 and has grown up increasable to become not only the most common social networking site in the world but also the most famous social networking tool of the past decade for students’ online learning. Traditional learning models concentrate on the one-way move of information from teacher to student in the shape of lecture and textbook; social application presents flexible space for personalization of learning and increased communication between teacher and student. In addition, the student can contribute with each other collaboratively and communicatively in the context of expanding activities and interactions that are unobstructed by place and time. This study attempt to find out the Iraqi University students' awareness of using Facebook in learning EFL. The sample who participated in the study were 150 students in the 2nd year at the Department of English, College of Education for Human Sciences/ Wasit University. Furthermore, results illustrated that students believe their language skills improved throughout using Facebook, and further, their confidence, motivation, manner relating to language learning and improved through their previous experiences. Facebook for learning and teaching because of its unique integrated function that offers pedagogical social. And technological.

The encroachment of wild boars into urban areas is a growing problem. The occurrence of wild boars in cities leads to conflict situations. Socio-spatial conflicts can escalate to a varied degree. Assessments of these conflicts can be performed by analyzing spatial data concerning the affected locations and wild boar behaviors. The collection of spatial data is a laborious and costly process that requires access to urban surveillance systems, in addition to regular analyses of intervention reports. A supporting method for assessing the risk of wild boar encroachment and socio-spatial conflict in cities was proposed in the present study. The developed approach relies on big data, namely, multimedia and descriptive data that are on social media. The proposed method was tested in the city of Olsztyn in Poland. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of data crowdsourced from a popular social networking site for determining the location and severity of conflicts. A photointerpretation method and the kernel density estimation (KDE) tool implemented in ArcGIS Desktop 10.7.1 software were applied in the study. The proposed approach fills a gap in the application of crowdsourcing data to identify types of socio-spatial conflicts involving wild boars in urban areas. Validation of the results with reports of calls to intervention services showed the high coverage of this approach and thus the usefulness of crowdsourcing data.

This empirical paper aims to identify the role of LinkedIn, a profession based social networking site (SNS) on overall hiring preference (HP) in Bangladesh. As the independent components, the author considered LinkedIn profile richness (LPR), LinkedIn skill endorsement (LSE) and self-presentation on LinkedIn (SL). The author collected primary data based on 391 survey responses. For descriptive statistics, the author utilized SPSS (version 24) and for examining the hypotheses, he utilized structural equation modeling technique through AMOS 24. After a careful and thorough analysis, it was found that all the independent components have significant positive roles over HP. This empirical paper is expected to be a founding guideline for the jobseekers having active LinkedIn profiles. Further, it can also guide the hiring managers to formulate and implement an efficient social media policy (SMP) for hiring.

Social media platforms represent a deep resource for academic research and a wide range of untapped possibilities for linguists (D'ARCY; YOUNG, 2012). This rapidly developing field presents various ethical issues and unique challenges regarding methods to retrieve and analyze data. This tutorial provides a straightforward guide to harvesting and tidying Twitter data, focused mainly on the Tweets' text, by using the R programming language (R CORE TEAM, 2020) via Twitter's APIs. The R code was developed in Adams (2020), based on the rtweet package (KEARNEY, 2018), and successfully resulted in a script for corpora compilation. In this tutorial, we discuss limitations, problems, and solutions in our framework for conducting ethical research on this social networking site. Our ethical concerns go beyond what we "agree to" in terms of use and privacy policies, that is, we argue that their content does not contemplate all the concerns researchers need to attend to. Additionally, our aim is to show that using Twitter as a data source does not require advanced computational skills.

Internet has become a platform for online learning, exchanging ideas and sharing opinions. Social networking site like Twitter is a widely used platform where millions of tweets are tweeted every day and most of these tweets never reach their intended audiences and fail fulfill their purposes because they are lost in a huge sea of tweets that are often irrelevant. Analysis of a segment of tweets might not truly reflect the real sentiments of the overall tweets on a topic which is a challenge. To tackle this problem, we introduce efficient techniques with which tweets are extracted, translated and sentiment analysis is performed on both text and images. These results are shown graphically and tabularly with other useful and important data such as username and hashtags used in tweets. For controlled access and security, login and registration features are incorporated.

The adoption of carbohydrate-restrictive diets to improve health is increasing in popularity, but there is a dearth of research on individuals who choose to severely restrict or entirely exclude carbohydrates. The present study investigated the beliefs and experiences of individuals following a diet that severely limits, or entirely excludes, dietary carbohydrates, colloquially known as a ‘zero-carb’ diet, for at least 6 months. Zero-carb dieters (n = 170) recruited via a social networking site completed an online qualitative survey prompting them to discuss their motives, rationale, and experiences of following a low-carb diet. Transcripts of participants’ responses were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results revealed that participants’ decision to follow a zero-carb diet was driven by health concerns and benefits. Participants expressed a strong social identity and belongingness to online zero-carb communities. Participants reported strong intentions to follow the diet indefinitely. Shortcomings of the diet centered on experienced stigma; lack of support from healthcare providers and significant others; limited access to, and high cost of, foods; and limited scientific data on the diet. Further research into the benefits and shortcomings of zero-carb diets across settings and populations is warranted, and guidelines for healthcare professionals on how to support individuals following a zero-carb diet are needed.

Social integration is known to be beneficial for mental health. However, it is not clear whether this applies to online as well as offline relationships. In this paper, we explore the association between online friendship and symptoms of depression among adolescents. We combine data from the popular social networking site with survey data on high school students (N = 144) and find that integration into the online network is a protective factor against depression. We also find that not all online connections are equally important: friendship ties with students from the same schools are stronger associated with depression than outside ties. In addition to friendship ties, we explore the effect of online interaction (“likes”). Overall, our results suggest that online relationships are associated with depression as well as offline friendship. However, the effect of more distant online connections is limited, while immediate social environment and peer relationships at school are more important.
