Social Networking has become a global phenomenon. Millions of people now use internet to engage on social networks. As in, there are more than 300 Social Networking Sites (SNS) and the total number of people using Social Networking Sites around the world is 1.73 billion according to 2013 Sensex. In few years, the usage of Social Networking Sites has surprisingly grown. These Social Networking Sites offers a wide variety of resources and services such as messaging, sharing of  information, online marketing, blogging, connecting,  sharing photos, audios, videos, group discussion, and distribution of applications. Consequently; especially youth, are the avid users of these sites. And, the usage of Social Networking Sites among the youth has increased rapidly throughout the world. Evidently, Social Networking Sites have become significant part of our lives. However, the study has been set forward to analyse the influence of Social Networking Sites on the interpersonal relationships of youth in Kerala state. Humans are social animals and Interpersonal Relationships are a very vital aspect of human existence. Hence, the impact of Social Networking Sites on interpersonal relationships needs to be examined through the lens of Sociology.

Social networking sites have been emerged and transformed the world, bringing the world and its people closer. Social media which are part of social networking sites have become more effective in marketing tools; it helps in creating opportunities and awareness to consumers. Social media platform such as Instagram has recently become the most popular social networking sites among the young people. In addition, selling and market the products in the virtual store on Instagram represents a new shopping mode for most consumers, especially youngsters both men and women, and they represent an important role in influencing fashion consumer purchase decision through social networking sites. This study attempted to investigate impact of social networking sites towards consumer purchase decision on fashion industry. Therefore, questionnaires are spreaded out to 110 respondents who are social media users in Medan in order to gather the necessary information and data. The results of this research, it is concluded that social networking sites (the usability of Instagram) influences and give impact towards consumer purchase decision on fashion. Moreover, both of the variables have a strong relationship on each other and considered to be linear. The results also demonstrate that Instagram influences fashion consumer purchase decision through its usability such as good metrics, eye catching content, and recommendations from others. Furthermore, Instagram is also proved to have a positive impact towards consumer purchase decision by creating awareness, provide satisfaction feeling and creating virtual communities which may motivates consumer to do an online purchase.

Social media has a profound influence on every aspect of human beings nowadays. This study investigated the impact of social networking sites on study habits and interpersonal relationships at the tertiary level. A total of 125 college students from different universities in Hanoi were chosen through a convenience sampling technique. Quantitative methodology was employed for the research instrument and a descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The researchers designed questionnaires with Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients of at least 0.84 to collect data for the study. Analysis of the data was carried out using frequencies, percentages, means, t-tests, and Pearson correlation statistics at the 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that students’ level of using social networking sites had a negative influence on their study habits and their interpersonal relationships. Based on the findings, it was recommended that regular orientations should be given to students on how and when to use social media to enhance their study habits or to spend time improving their interpersonal relationships with their families, friends, and teachers.

With the increased popularity of social media, social networking sites (SNSs) have received the attention of many scholars. In particular, researchers have focused on the impact of SNSs on interpersonal relationships. Accordingly, this chapter provides an overview of the extant literature concerning associations between the use of SNSs and romantic relationships. It provides empirical evidence on how social networking behaviors are influenced by adult attachment styles, and how social networking influences relationship constructs such as satisfaction, commitment, jealousy, and relationship dissolution. Furthermore, it presents previous research that emphasizes gender as a moderator in these relations. This chapter overall contributes to researchers and professionals in providing information on online social networking and emphasizing key romantic relationship constructs related to the use of SNSs. It also provides suggestions for future research.

In the world, Facebook is one of the most well-known social networking sites, which is used a lot among students. The purpose of this research is to identify the devoted time students’ spend on the usage of Facebook, and its impacts on learners’ social life at Mirwais Khan Nika Zabul Institute of Higher Education, Zabul, Afghanistan. In this study, the quantitative research method was used to collect data from one hundred and fifteen students, and they were selected through a random sample. Likewise, the questionnaire was designed based on the literature review then the data was collected from the participants. Similarly, the data was analyzed by using IBM 24 version of SPSS and found out the frequency and percentage of the demographic data as well as the items. Also, the findings of this research illustrate that learners were devoted from half to one-hour time for using Facebook. Moreover, the results assert that learners want to maintain in connection with people, feel fine when they share their ideas on Facebook and it had positive effects on students’ social life.


Social Media has undoubtedly become a powerful tool among the students. Social Media provides them the freedom to do whatever they want, to find new friends, to interact with people, to share information and knowledge and to create profile or identities. Social networking sites provide students with a new platform for learning but it also has a darker side of which if one is not aware of can bring potential dangers. The youth spent long hours on different social media platforms which has affected their academics, impaired their sleep patterns ,missed out their schools and meals and often produces stress, anxiety and fear about their identities. Students are also entrapped by the ploys of social networking. This happens when it develops an addiction in them that inculcates bad habits. So the students should be educated properly regarding the usage of Social Media and develop the cognitive and intuitive ability to analyze how much they want to spend on the different platforms in Social Media. Most of the studies conducted examine the impact of social networking sites on the academic performance of students. This study focuses on the usage of Social Media and its perceived impact on the social life of students in Kerala.


Social networking means sharing information through network. It can be personal or official. Social networking sites are the boon to the college students which enhances the communication and connect with many people around the world. It helps the students to have contact with their own old friends who are far away from them and can also build new friends by forming a group. WhatsApp had become an important part in everybody’ life like children, adults, teenagers and senior citizens too due to various features of the WhatsApp attracted the users. WhatsApp is free to download and was introduced to interact with the people easily. It has become a part and parcel of the life. The present study is an attempt to study the impact and the uses of WhatsApp with reference to the students of SDNB Vaishnav College for Women Chrompet, Chennai. This exploratory study has been conducted upon 230 respondents with a structured questionnaire. The data was analysed used SPSS packages. The study concludes that students should give importance to their studies instead of giving importance to the WhatsApp. Students should try to restrict the usage of WhatsApp in order to avoid health problems and see to it they are fit.

Social media sites have recently gain an essential importance in the contemporary societies، actually، these sites isn't simply a personal or social tool of communication among people، its role had been expanded to become "political"، words such as "Facebook، Twitter and YouTube" are common words in political fields of our modern days since the uprisings of Arab spring، which sometimes called (Facebook revolutions) as a result of the major impact of these sites in broadcasting process of the revolution message over the world by organize and manage the revolution progresses in spite of the governmental ascendance and official prohibition.
