A significant imperfection of parts made from linear block-polyurethanes under conditions of friction contact in the presence of water medium is an intensification of hydrolysis processes and reduction of bulk strength. In order to slow down the hydrolysis process, samples of the polyurethanes were subjected to three types of thermal impacts: thermal processing during some time, infrared and laser irradiations. It has been established that processing in thermal fields of different intensity allows 5-10 times increase of wear resistance of these materials during friction in water medium.

Abstract A significant disadvantage of parts made of linear block polyurethanes under conditions of friction contact in the presence of an aqueous medium is the intensification of hydrolysis processes and decrease in volume strength. It was proposed to slow down the hydrolysis of polyurethanes in three ways: by directed changes in chemical structure, by electromagnetic radiation of different intensities and by creation of composite materials, based on the principle of additional intermolecular crosslinking at the manufacturing and hot processing stages. The conditions for the formation of a smooth wear-resistant surface that protects the material from rapid destruction are revealed.

Ohmic heating is an emerging technology with large number of actual and future applications. It is an advanced thermal processing method wherein the food material, which serves as an electrical resistor, is heated by passing electricity through it. Like thermal processing, ohmic heating inactivates microorganisms by heat. It can be used for heating liquid foods containing large particulates, heat sensitive liquids and proteinaceous foods. The shelf life of ohmically processed foods is comparable to that of canned and sterile, aseptically processed products. Being an eco‐friendly method it is more effective than conventional thermal processing methods.

There are a variety of opinions regarding the influence of retained austenite and carbides on the properties exhibited by carbonitrided steels. In this paper, the development of a model marking relationship between phase composition, and properties of hardened carbonitrided steel has been presented. A summary of the impact of structure on properties is provided in Table 1. In the study reported here, the impact of thermal processing conditions on retained austenite and carbides was examined for carbonitrided and hardened 20 (C22), 20H (20Cr4), 15HN (17CrNi6-6) and 16HG (16MnCr5) steels. The models that are reported were experimentally validated. In particular, the results obtained for structure with respect to hardness and abrasive wear resistance were discussed for carbonitrided and hardened 20H (20Cr4) steel.

The influence of the main structural parameters (molecular weight and hard blocks content) as well as methods of filling linear block-polyurethanes and their compositions on their strength, deformation, rheological and tribotechnical characteristics has been studied. A complex approach to produce polyurethane compositions of improved wear resistance has been suggested.
