Considering Nancy Scheper-Hughes anthropological fieldwork, this paper explores the personal and existential dimensions of maternal love and child death in the Alto do Cruzeiro neighbourhood, near the city of Recife, in the northeast of Brazil. The feminine subjectivity conformation in an extreme poverty context presents this group of Brazilian women as holders of an alternative emotional system, which is influenced by both local and global processes in political and economic terms. The nature of emotion is questioned, and so is the construction of short, medium and large period of time.

This paper is the product of the meeting points of our investigations about the eating practices in the office and the practices of consumption from the recipients of the Conditional Cash Transfers, both in the City of Buenos Aires. From these paths we have identified the way in which eating practices and consumption practices are organized in relation to emotions such as maternal love, linked to the strategies of state intervention. Those Interventions, mediated by social work, have been massified in the Latin American societies. In this sense, the aim of this work is to recover the way through maternal love organize some practices and the way in which this mothers, take the place of sacrificiality and find enjoyment and satisfaction making their children happy. This analyze will be based on a qualitative research strategy, using in-depth interviews. It is concluded that maternal love is an emotion that convey care practices that place women mothers in the experience of abnegation, feeling of guilt and lack.

Silence, body and dance offers a look at the signs used in flamenco dancing, an observation that appeals to reflection. What is silence? How it operates in the body and how flamenco needs it to create. Here there is a tension between meaning and signifier, a characteristic that determines the style and defines the codeUnderstanding silence and its use in flamenco is translating the sign, engaging the dialogue between singing and dancing so that this space called silence exists, determined at the same time what is flamenco and what is not. Then, the silence becomes readable and builds a sign that gives identity to the dance itself. We could infer that in opposition to sound -associated with the masculine-, silence is also associated with the feminine, for which our signifier implies a genre. The feminine and masculine in dance is established by the type of movement, linear, straight or curved and sinuous, but here the sound of the feet is established as a world inhabited by men while the movement of arms belongs to women. Although this rupture seems to be more a construction of the own sign created for the dance, than a question of the genre of the dance itself.

This article examines how three South African novelists, Margie Orford, Lauren Beukes and Henrietta Rose-Innes, use crime fiction to write their country. After a brief survey of the rapid development of crime fiction in South Africa and of the critical response it received, the article proposes a reading of Like Clockwork, Zoo City and Nineveh, whereby their respective contribution to crime fiction displays three major features : first, Orford’s novel chimes in with generic conventions ; second, Beukes’s novel combines features borrowed from both crime fiction and science fiction ; and last, Rose-Innes’s novel displaces the detective story narrative into a context where « murder » is invested with a symbolic meaning. By handling the investigation theme in a variety of ways, the three novelists adapt it to the South African context and besides show that the feminine body fits in more or less problematically within the space of the city and of the nation.

The relevance of the research topic is due to the interest in urban space and its cultural and symbolic meaning. The city, perceived as a text, helps in interpreting to understand its specifics and represent it at different levels, which increases, among other things, its tourist attractiveness. The purpose of the study is to analyze the metaphor of Kazan-a woman through the prism of the gastronomic culture of the Tatars. Materials and Methods of Research. The methodological basis of the research consists of the cosmosophical ideas of G. D. Gachev, as well as the books of K. F. Fuchs, K. Nasyri, F. Ibragimova, S. Lutfullina, in which there are characteristics of the gastronomic culture of the Tatars. In the original metaphor, analyzed from the point of view of G. D. Gachev’s cosmosophy, where Kazan represents the Cosmos, and a woman represents Psyche, a missing link is found – the Logos. It is this link that, while remaining an open structure, accommodates various spheres of manifestation of the national mind in the field of culture and art, which helps to identify the feminine qualities of the city when interpreting the metaphor. Results. A stable association associated with Kazan is its Tatar national cuisine. This is no coincidence. The very history of the city according to some extant legends and legends is associated with the cauldron, which is a mandatory attribute of the cuisine. Despite the primacy of the man in the family, the mistress of the kitchen is a woman. It is on her that a huge number of duties are assigned to prepare food and create a spiritual atmosphere during the meal. Gastronomic culture, acting as a Logo, allows us to identify such qualities of Kazan, interpreted as an image of a woman-hostess, as hospitality, cordiality, respect, sensitivity, creativity, rationalism, skillful and careful handling of products. Discussion and conclusion. Clarification of the meaning of the Kazan-woman metaphor requires further study. At the same time, other spheres of culture and various texts of art can act as Logos.

This research sets a model for the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and evaluates the level of agreement in the classification of the general population, metropolitan area, Libertador municipality of the city of Mérida, Venezuela, 2005, according to variables PREV1 and PREV2, designed using the criteria of theNCPEATPIII. Materials and methods: We propose the use of Cohen’s kappa coefficient to measure this deal. This paper uses the proposed procedure by Nava and Sinha (2007), to fit a logistic regression model that relates the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) or syndrome X, with the variables sex, height, weight, CBMI, alcohol, snuff, sedentary lifestyle, glucose, HDL, triglycerides, obesity, social class, age and marital status, considering information on a group of 275 people. Results and discussion: Results shows that the variables significantly associated with the presence of MS are sex, CBMI, glucose, HDL, triglycerides and age. Glucose, HDL, triglycerides and CBMI, are variables that increases significantly the chances of prevalence of MS. Conclusions: We conclude that women are more likely than men to have SM; the value obtained for the Cohen kappa coefficient, indicate a high agreement on the classification of individuals considered in the investigation according to the variables PREV1 and PREV2, i.e. any of these variables can be used to determine the prevalence of MS.
