The study investigated the provision and utilization of laboratory facilities as a function of students’ performance in practical biology among the senior secondary schools in Gombe State. Three hundred and seventeen (317) SS III students and their biology teachers were used as sample for the study. Three instruments, Biology Laboratory Facilities Inventory, Biology Laboratory Facilities Utilization Scale and the Students’ Test of Practical Biology were used to collect data. The data collected were expressed in percentages (%) and analyzed using Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results revealed that there was a deficiency in the availability and utilization of biology laboratory facilities. It also revealed that there was significant relationship between availability and utilization of facilities with students’ performance in practical biology at 0.05 level of significance. The study recommended that the state ministry of education needed to provide the necessary practical facilities for schools offering biology. It should also encourage the training of teachers as well as support them to attend and participate in workshops and seminars.

Laboratory is a facility to support the activities of learning in school, every high school should has a good laboratory management to support biology learning activities. This study aimed to analyze the biology laboratory management that has been done by the senior high school laboratory manager in the district of Batanghari in Jambi province. The research is descriptive study; the research subjects are research laboratory heads and teachers of biology. The laboratory management analysis includes aspects of planning, organizing, structuring, administering, and securing. In this study the data obtained from observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively. Overall, two schools are categorized as excellence (SMAN A; 89.2 % and SMAN B; 87.9%); two schools are in very good category (SMAN C; 78.2% and SMAN D; 78.0%); and two schools are in the last category (enough category) includes SMAN E (66.8%) and SMAN F (61.5%). Moreover some aspect of biology laboratory management in senior high schools are not well managed yet. Based on the results it is suggested that laboratory managers should improve the laboratory facilities as well as their competencies in managing the laboratory. Moreover, senior high schools should employ laboratory technicians and laboran to assist the task of laboratory heads and teachers to produce a more effective laboratory management

This study was done during the reflection session at the end of the ‘Basics of Biology Learning’ lecture. In the lecture, the students learned about many types of learning methods and models. The study was carried out to strengthen the learning material. The research problem is related to pre-service teaching students’ confusion about choosing a learning method/model. The objective of this study is to obtain information from pre-service biology teachers’ perspectives about choosing a learning method and model within a biology lesson. Their preferences of learning methods and models was based on their reasoning. The subjects of this study were five biology pre-service teaching students who attended the lectures for one semester. The interview method was used in this study; interviews were based on one open-ended question to allow the teachers to express their personal viewpoint. The result showed that, as biology teachers, their preferred methods were the discussion method, scientifical model (inquiry and problem based learning) and cooperative learning. Based on the results, the teachers’ learning method and model preferences depended on their reasoning and the way the lecturer presented the material during the lecture. At the end of the lecture, as a conclusion, there was a reflection session to find out more about students’ perspective regarding their learning during the session.

Workshop and Training on Making Biology Preparations for High School Teachers in East LampungAbstractThe workshop and training in making biological preparations for high school teachers aims to train teachers to make biological preparations that are important in the implementation of biology practices in schools. The target audience for this service is high school biology teachers in East Lampung. The dedication activity was carried out on October 15, 2019 which took place at the State High School Laboratory of 1 Jepara, with 26 participants participating in the high school biology teacher. The evaluation results obtained the results and benefits of this service include increasing the skills of high school teachers in making blood smear preparations and biological preservation preparations as media for learning biology. The activity is expected to be able to help biology teachers in developing science learning media so that the quality of science learning can be improved

This study aims to determine the completeness of laboratory facilities and infrastructures, the implementation of the laboratorial practice, to measure the causal factors of laboratorial practice to run, and to be alert of laboratory infrastructure completeness and the implementation of the biology laboratorial practice. Data were collected by observation and questionnaires. The sample in this study were 11 high schools in Banda Aceh, with respondents 11 biology teachers who are responsible for teaching class XI and 99 students of class XI IPA. The data were analyzed using the proportion formula and the product moment answer formula. The study resulted in the findings that: 1) the proportion of completeness of facilities and infrastructure was 66.77% (good). 2) the proportion of laboratorial ptactice implementation was 62.81% (sufficiently implemented). 3) factors of laboratorial procurement, including, inadequate support, inadequate materials, insufficient time allocation, lack of readiness of laboratory assistants in preparing tools and materials, absence of laboratory assistants in several sample schools, and some biology / laboratory assistants in The sample school had never been trained to guide students or to use laboratory equipment. 4) the correlation between the laboratory facilities completeness and infrastructure with laboratorial practice implementation was 0.27 (low).
