Based on the motivation theory, this study aims to investigate the motivational orientations of the English learners from Management majors. 32 graduate students participated in the questionnaire and accomplished the interview in this research. Based on the statistics processed by SPSS, it is found that (1) instrumental orientation is significantly stronger than the integrative type; (2) among all the motivation items, the most three significant motivations are preparing for a future career, desiring to be a knowledgeable person and passing exams. Besides, based on the analysis of interview, a model of major-oriented, international and nested systems of instrumental motivation was constructed, indicating the interrelationship between motivational factors: globalization, social expectation, university policy, major needs and learner factors. It is expected that this study can provide some implications to English teaching to management students with the investigation of the systematic structure of their motivations.

This essay pretends to deep on how the process of making decisions in designing an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) course registered by three TESOL graduate students, structured by the author along with participants, a requirement of the Master of English Teaching for Speakers of Other Languages at University of Costa Rica (UCR).During the course the designers should help a group of UCR workers to communicate in English effectively with international students who want to study at UCR or those who were already participating in international programs. This study introduces data about the apprentices who benefit from this academic activity, tasks designed and taught, aswell as the evaluation and assessment used. Finally, it suggests some recommendations for those who may consider the option of designing an ESP course as an effective strategy to promote the use of the target language in a work context.

Many English learners use English Teaching Channels on YouTube as an alternative source of learning. Most of those channels were organized by Indonesian teachers. The qualities of the teaching presentations on these channels are varied. Inappropriate use of vocabulary, inaccurate grammar, and mispronunciations are often found in these channels. This research attempts to study the inaccurate pronunciations of the English teachers. The study is deemed necessary due to the fact that learners consider online English teachers as good language model and as an alternative to access English learning materials. The result of the study shows that there are nine types of English vowels that are pronounced inaccurately by the teachers. Most of them are absent in Indonesian vowel system. Cautions should be made when using English Teaching channels on YouTube and some suggestions for Indonesian English teachers are presented.

The needs analysis cannot be separated from the development of materials and curriculum design for language learning, especially ESP. The research about ESP, especially the topic of need analysis still needs to be explored. Thus, this research aims to identify language skills needed and develop English teaching materials at Politeknik Gihon. The subjects of this study were 45 ongoing students and six former students. The learning model and environment are two major constraints on spoken English learning by Chinese learners. The maturity of computer-aided language learning brings a new opportunity to spoken English learners. Based on speech recognition and machine learning, this paper designs a spoken English teaching system, and determines the overall architecture and functional modules of the system according to the system’s functional demand. Specifically, MATLAB was adopted to realize speech recognition, and generate a speech recognition module. Combined with machine learning algorithm, a deep belief network (DBN)-support vector machine (SVM) model was proposed to classify and detect the errors in pronunciation; the module also scores the quality and corrects the errors in pronunciation. This model was extended to a speech evaluation module was created. Next, several experiments were carried out to test multiple attributes of the system, including the accuracy of pronunciation classification and error detection, recognition rates of different environments and vocabularies, and the real-timeliness of recognition. The results show that our system achieved good performance, realized the preset design goals, and satisfied the user demand. This research provides an important theoretical and practical reference to transforming English teaching method, and improving the spoken English of learners.

The quality of educational institutions is influenced by teaching and learning process that is students and lecturers. Novalita (2006) state that to learn a language the learners need more than just once or twice, but they need many time to understand the language, the real meaning of the language, the structure of the language, and so on. There is no good strategies in teaching process, but suitable strategy which is can be used in the teaching process. Therefore, every teacher or lecturer should master many strategies in the teaching and learning process. Some strategies can be applied to some students or learners, but it can’t be applied to all of students or learners. he goal of this study is to observe how the teacher implements English teaching instruction at English language center (PKPBI). Besides that, what are the material used and the way how teacher evaluates and also how do the learners perceive the English teaching instruction at English language center (PKPBI) of Maulana Malik Ibrahim state Islamic university of Malang. This study was a qualitative research because this study is a case study which focuses on teaching process. The data collections used in this study were observation, interview, and documentation. In order to analyze the data collected in the research project and answer the core questions of the study, it was used the grounded theory. The researcher found that the contents of the material used was reading section characterized by provision of an English reading text on mathematic-content-related area followed by writing exercises. The teacher implement English teaching instruction with the aim of answering the question, it can be concluded that for the beginning of teaching, there were a big amount of mistakes with the guidance and no explicit implementation of grammatical aspects during the lessons, because the teacher intents to present language items as in a regular language course. The balance between content and language was not easy to manage either, because in some situations the teacher tends to focus more in language or in content. The teacher evaluate by her choice of evaluation. She felt confused and scared at the beginning of the experience. About perceiving of the learners, the researcher concluded that the students feel challenging with the process of teaching and learning in the class, they also interesting with because they can continued applied what they learn. Key words: Teaching instruction, Non-English learners

The purposes of this investigation were 1) to examine the findings of effectiveness of the process of learning by doing conducted with 5 linguistic graduate students at Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok, Thailand 2) to develop the linguistic graduate students skill of designing English teaching materials and teaching English language and 3) to find out the efficient format of learning by doing used for training the student teachers skill of teaching English. The subjects of the study were 5 graduate students majoring in Linguistics at Srinakharinwirot University. This investigation is a qualitative research. The research instrument was a questionnaire designed to ask the students’ opinions towards learning by doing of constructing English teaching materials and teaching English language of their own and their friends. The qualitative data from brainstorming in a group discussion were taken into account. The results showed that the students get the benefits from the process of learning by doing. It can assist them to discover the knowledge of designing English teaching materials and English teaching skill by themselves. It is also found out that the efficient format for training teaching skill of the student teachers should integrate with the activity of brainstorming in a group discussion in every teaching-learning step i.e. from the preparation step when the principles and teching techniques of language teaching input of Audio Lingual Method, Cognitive Code Learning Theory and Communicative Language Teahing Approach were presented, during the step of adaping teaching materials and experimenting the practical teaching in school as well as after the students completed their self reflection and peer reflection.
