The purposes of this research is to know the effect mind mapping technique and vocabulary mastery on students’writing skill. Also how the implementation mind mapping technique on students’writing skill. Students need vocabulary mastery to arrange the sentences for getting a good paragraph and mind mapping technique is one of the technique that use to treat students for getting writing well. This research use experiments method. There were 40 students chosen at random from fourth grade semester English Education at STKIP Kusuma Negara Jakarta.Collecting data use test writing skill. Research of instrument has tested and tried by the validity and reliability test used the SPSS (Statistic Program Social Science). Data analyzed by using kolmogorv Smirov, know data was normality.The text analysis is to test the data homogeneity  by using Levenu’s test, to see if the population was derived from homogeneous population. The result of this research concluded  that 1) Using Mind Mapping Technique has significant effect on student’s writing skill. Result  F for mind mapping (A) Fo=290.285 and sig.= 0.000<0.05, then the conclusion is that there is significant effect between mind mapping technique  (X1) on student’s writing skills. 2). Vocabulary mastery gave the significant effect to the student’s writing skill. Result research F for vocabulary mastery (B) Fo=91.401 and sig.= 0.000<0.05. It has shown that there is significant effect vocabulary mastery (X2) on student’s writing skills. 3) There is significant effect interaction between mind mapping and vocabulary mastery on student’s writing skill. Result of this research F from mind mapping (A) and vocabulary (B) Fo=5.274 and sig.=0.028<0.05. Using mind mapping technique in learning give effect in students’writing skill. Students who have rich vocabulary mastery can get good writing English.Keywords: Podcasts, Promote, Speaking, Online Learning

The needs analysis cannot be separated from the development of materials and curriculum design for language learning, especially ESP. The research about ESP, especially the topic of need analysis still needs to be explored. Thus, this research aims to identify language skills needed and develop English teaching materials at Politeknik Gihon. The subjects of this study were 45 ongoing students and six former students. The result of the study revealed the perceptions of the students’ needs for their current studies and future career and how the English material should be designed in this institution. This study contributes in developing the teaching material and proposed a redesigned of ESP course.

This paper sought to investigate the relationship/gap between personal and professional identity experienced by a group of elementary school teachers in Sintang, West Borneo. In gathering the data, the researchers used questionnaire and divided it into two parts: close-ended statements in a form of Likert Scale and open-ended questions which asked the opinion of the teachers related to their personal and professional identity. This study employed a qualitative research, using the snowball sampling. The researchers distributed the questionnaire in form of Likert scale and continued it with open-ended questions. The questionnaire was then followed up by individual interview. The questions were posited to identify teachers’ beliefs of their professional and personal identity. The research results reveal that there are five gap points between personal and professional identity within teacher, namely adjusting myself to the work place, trying to be a good parent, class situation and students’ characteristic, cannot be ‘me’ when in the classroom, and professional identity affects personal identity. Recommendations for further research studies are also provided at the end of this paper

This study was focused on determine the types of use slang language style. The types of slangs were analyzed from “Charlie’s Angels” movie. Theories used in this research were Sumarsono (2007) about the types of slang language style and Zhou & Fan (2013) about the functions of slang language. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method.This research is the kind of content analysis study based on the way to do qualitative research. The way to collects the data are; downloading movie, watching movie and downloading movie subtitle. The data were from a movie entitled “Charlie’s Angels” in the year of 2019 with action-comedy genre.After conducting the analysis, this study showed that there were four types of slang language style from six types of slang language. They were clipping, creative, uses the existing words and metaphor. Creative was found as the most dominant types of slang language style in the movie with 10 data (40%), metaphor with 7 data (28%), uses the existing words with 5 data (20%) and clipping with 3 data (12%). Finally, the reseacher hopes that this study will be useful for the future improvement of studying literature, especially about slang language style

The objective of this research was to promote students' speaking ability by using podcasts in teaching and learning. the subject of the research was taken in one of the senior high schools in Bogor 11th grades and the participant was 6 students consists 3 of females and 3 of males. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. The phases are planning, acting, observing, and reflecting as the process of teaching and learning. For collecting the data the researcher used the quantitative data that were obtained from the documents, observations, and interviews to investigate the students' promotion in speaking ability such a promoting their grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and self-confidence. It can be concluded that the students' speaking ability could be promoted by using podcasts in English teaching and learning.Keywords:Podcasts, Promote,Speaking,Online Learning

This study aimed to recognize the problems  faced by the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 1 Jejawi and to determine the  factors that influenced  students’ difficulties in comprehending recount text. This study was a qualitative research. The subject of the study was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Jejawi in academic year of 2019/2020. The techniques of collecting the data were interview and reading comprehension test. To analyses the data, reducing, data displayed, content analysis, and draw conclusion were applied. The result of the study showed that there were 68.7%  students  had difficulties in finding the main idea,  70.15% students had difficulties in understanding vocabulary,  66% students had difficulties in finding reference,  59.3% students had difficulties in finding purpose of the text,  67.24% students had difficulties in finding detail information, and 81.95% students had difficulties in determining the generic structure of the text. Some factors influenced students’ difficulties in comprehending recount text were material that has long passage, limitation of words, learners’ background, and environment.

Abstract: The research’s purpose is to perceive the implication of reading technique use and self-belief  to reading comprehension. This research is conducted to answer the problem do reading technique and self-belief fundamentally implication to college students’ reading comprehension. The problem was answered using alternative hypothesis stating reading technique and self-belief significantly implicate to college students’ reading comprehension. The reasearch used quantitative and research design is correlation. The subject of the reserach was 240 population students of English Education Department of Universitas Islam Madura Pamekasan. The sample was 150 students after being counted by Sloven theory. The sample was taken using simple random sampling with lottery media. The data was taken using questionnaire for reading technique which consisted of 30 points questions to know the frequency of reading technique use, questiannaire for self-belief which consisted of 9 questions for regulated learning and the answers scored using Likert Scale, the reading comprehension test consisted 40 questions were picked up from Longman Pre TOEFL reading test. The data were analyzed using regression formula to answer the reserach problem. Data analysis was counted using SPSS version 11.0. The result showed that reading technique and self-belief fundamentally implicate to the college students’ reading comprehension. It was authenticated by table of regression showing that the value of F is 14.339 (p<0.01). It meant that the data reject nul hypothesis and receive alternative hypothesis. It is substantiated reading technique and self-belief fundamentally to reading comprehension of students university.

This study aims to provide an overview of the analysis of class X SMA Putri Sion Medan in identifying and knowing the difficulties experienced by class X Puteri Sion students in determining the main ideas in the narrative paragraphs. This research uses a qualitative approach,and the tool of data collection was used written test. The sample consisted of 11 students. In conducting the research, the researcher got the result that the students' ability to identify main ideas in narrative paragraphs was in a very bad category. Based on the analyzed data, it was found that 3 students (27.28%) got a score of 81-90 (very good), 1 student (9.09%) got a score of 61-70 (enough), 2 students (18.18%) got a score grades 51-60 (poor), and 5 students (45.44%) scored less than 50 (very bad). Most of the students scored in the very poor category. After analyzing the ability to identify main ideas in narrative paragraphs, it is known that the ability to identify main ideas in class X Puteri Sion Medan is in a very bad category. The difficulties that students face when identifying the main idea in a narrative paragraph are a lack of interest in learning that makes them lazy to read, lack of vocabulary knowledge, their vocabulary is very small, and poor reading strategies.Keywords: Analysis, students’ ability, narrative Text

The study was conducted to analyze the quality of the 2019 English Matriculation objective test for which the quality was not known. This research is quantitative descriptive. This test was followed by 768 students. The research determined by a simple random sampling technique. The percentage of leeway for accuracy is 10% so that the number of samples specified is 90 respondents. The data collection technique in this research is documentation. The analysis technique in this study was carried out by testing the validity, reliability, level of difficulty, distinguishing power, and deceitful effectiveness so that it can be used to describe the quality of the English Matriculation test. The research results obtained in this matter were good, there were only 1 item (2%), 22 items needed to be repaired (44%), and 27 items (54%) were eliminated / removed. The preparation of the English Matriculation test was conducted through a focus group discussion. Evaluation of English matriculation questions should be carried out periodically in order to provide an overview of the quality of the questions. The items that have failed should not be used anymore, and the revised questions should be corrected by looking at the indicators of the cause of the failure. Increasing competency in writing questions can be done by participating in item analysis training or through tutorials on electronic media.Keywords: objective test; test analysis; test quality

Elaborating Critical Thinking Skills in TEFL Methodology subject has become one of the 21st century trends, prioritized in the pedagogic process of language courses. Lecturers as facilitators, motivators, boosters, co-learners and inspirational model are the foundation of innovative creativity to adapt and modify comprehensively, and integrate them in their teaching projects contextually; while, the learners themselves play as the active target of learning agents. This modern TEFL Methodology critically makes use of either authentic texts or real texts that are also confronted by the need to approach texts critically. This was revealed in this research, focused on the learners’ activities that enthusiastically engage critical thinking skills in their learning process. It runs actively, innovatively, creatively, dialogically, democratically and in a critical and interactive atmosphere. The importance of applying critical thinking skills in language learning process can empower learners to maximize the objective of TEFL Methodology learning target both oral and written in accordance with their social context. Learners enter in any task using the target language which contains the elements such as identification, investigation, analysis and problem solving then they must think critically. These kinds of communicative task are commonplace for they engage the learners in authentic communication settings. This is impressive and meaningful for the learners. Thus, recommending success in TEFL Methodology subject – as in life - requires effective use of language practically along with some measure of critical thinking.
