In learning through experience there are so many techniques that can be used in order to learn and master skills. Strategies used for learning may be in the form of presentation, multimedia, simulation or hands-on. Others might prefer combination of strategies both being able to hear and/or see the actual or real object of machines, tools or equipment. There are advanced visual technologies available in the internet to choose from but most are not designed to the learning process in a school. Augmented reality is an emerging advance technology that shows a lot of use and opportunity as a tool for learning and enhancing experience. AR can simulate real objects into models that be used for education. This study aims to experiment on an AR engine created using the AR model framework to enhance the learning experiences of students in the different learning strategies used in this study. The experiment is focused to find the significant differences of not having and having an AR model into the learning/teaching strategy. To analyze the data frequency, statistical mode is used to find the most frequent response to interpret the nominal and ordinal categories of the variables. The results of using the AR model framework significantly improved the learning experiences of the participants.

The maritime industry in the Philippines had several deficiencies that must be addressed seriously in order to maintain strong reputation in producing competitive seafarers worldwide. This affects student’s educational skills and knowledge before finishing their education and training. This research led in identifying several factors affecting learning experiences to be addressed by incorporating advance technologies to further enhance student’s learning experiences. The learning strategies used in this study are focused on using presentation, multimedia, simulator and hands-on. But these are not enough to satisfy students craving to learn due to some constraints during learning. In this study most of the factors identified are from literatures, monitoring reports, previous surveys and studies conducted in one of the maritime institution north of the Philippines. A descriptive research method was applied with the 32 marine engineering third year students as the respondents. Results extracted from questionnaires revealed important points that must be considered on the different learning strategies. The learning experiences of students on the different learning strategy used in the learning process exposed several learning factors to be regulated. The findings suggest that there is still an opportunity of improvement on student’s learning experiences by introduction emerging advance technology by developing an augmented reality model framework to enhance learning experiences.

Teaching organic chemistry requires supporting learning strategies that meaningfully engage students with the challenging concepts and advanced problem-solving skills needed to be successful. Such meaningful learning experiences should encourage students to actively choose to incorporate new concepts into their existing knowledge frameworks by appealing to the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning. This study provides a qualitative analysis of students’ meaningful learning experiences after completing three Writing-to-Learn (WTL) assignments in an organic chemistry laboratory course. The assignments were designed to appeal to the three domains necessary for a meaningful learning experience, and this research seeks to understand if and how the WTL assignments promoted students’ meaningful learning. The primary data collected were the students’ responses to open-ended feedback surveys conducted after each assignment. These responses were qualitatively analyzed to identify themes across students’ experiences about their meaningful learning. The feedback survey analysis was triangulated with interviews conducted after each assignment. The results identify how the assignments connected to students’ existing knowledge from other courses and indicate that assignment components such as authentic contexts, clear expectations, and peer review supported students’ meaningful learning experiences. These results inform how assignment design can influence students’ learning experiences and suggest implications for how to support students’ meaningful learning of organic chemistry through writing.

Augmented reality (AR) scenes often inadvertently contain real world objects that are not relevant to the main AR content, such as arbitrary passersby on the street. We refer to these real-world objects as content-irrelevant real objects (CIROs). CIROs may distract users from focusing on the AR content and bring about perceptual issues (e.g., depth distortion or physicality conflict). In a prior work, we carried out a comparative experiment investigating the effects on user perception of the AR content by the degree of the visual diminishment of such a CIRO. Our findings revealed that the diminished representation had positive impacts on human perception, such as reducing the distraction and increasing the presence of the AR objects in the real environment. However, in that work, the ground truth test was staged with perfect and artifact-free diminishment. In this work, we applied an actual real-time object diminishment algorithm on the handheld AR platform, which cannot be completely artifact-free in practice, and evaluated its performance both objectively and subjectively. We found that the imperfect diminishment and visual artifacts can negatively affect the subjective user experience.

Thus far, it has only been used for suppressing two-dimensional images presented on-screen. We present a novel variant of CFS, termed ‘real-life CFS’, with which the actual immediate surroundings of an observer – including three-dimensional, real life objects – can be rendered unconscious. Real-life CFS uses augmented reality goggles to present subjects with CFS masks to their dominant eye, leaving their non-dominant eye exposed to the real world. In three experiments we demonstrate that real objects can indeed be suppressed from awareness using real-life CFS, and that duration suppression is comparable that obtained using the classic, on-screen CFS. We further provide an example for an experimental code, which can be modified for future studies using ‘real-life CFS’. This opens the gate for new questions in the study of consciousness and its functions.

Objectives: To determine the preferred learning styles of Dental students and Dentists among various dental colleges using the VARK questionnaire. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Various Dental Colleges in Karachi & Rawalpindi using the VARK questionnaire. Period: From June 2018 to February 2019. Material & Methods: Students, house-officers and demonstrators of dental medical college and hospital were asked to fill the VARK questionnaire which consists of 16 items. Four modes of learning either uni modal, bimodal or trimodal could be identified. The four modes include: visual, aural, reading, kinesthic. Results: Kinesthetic mode of learning was used by 24.5% individuals. Aural mode of learning was used by 25.3% individuals. Visual mode of learning was used by 15.5% individuals. Learning by reading was used by 17.7% individuals. Learning by using all modes was used by 1.5% individuals. Conclusion: Identifying the effective modes of learning is the first step towards changing the teaching strategy. Training in medicine and dentistry require innovative teaching ideas incorporating all modes for efficient learning of doctors.

The use of robotic models with the main functionalities of real objects together with the implementation of innovative technologies, augmented reality (AR) in this case, is the focus of the paper. Therefore, the concept of a simplified robotic model (SRM) is presented. This concept is important because it is useful for achieving the goals of engineering projects, which is especially justified prior to the construction of the real objects. It improves presentation, development, and education capabilities that are unavoidable segments of the project strategy. Additionally, it is possible to transfer developed solutions to the final objects after certain modifications. Multidisciplinary building of the unique SRM of the 3-axis centrifuge for pilot training is described, where multi-attribute decisionmaking is used to conduct some experiments. The application includes the use of a physical model, built from LEGO elements, software for controlling and monitoring the physical model, and an AR mobile app.

There are three ways in which student-student interaction may be organized for mainstreaming. Of the three, cooperation is the only instructional strategy congruent with the goals of mainstreaming. The essential elements of cooperation learning and the specific actions teachers need to take to implement it are presented in this article. When cooperative learning is implemented effectively, positive relationships between handicapped and nonhandicapped students result. Far more positive interaction between handicapped and nonhandicapped students within instructional situations and during free-time, as well as increased friendships, result from cooperative learning experiences.

In this paper, the authors describe a surgeon assistive Augmented Reality (AR) model for endoscopic procedures. They analyze the main parts of the model and the processes that need to be established such as, the registration of the patient, the segmentation of medical data, their 3D reconstruction, and the detection of endoscopic instruments and the camera. The authors present two graphical user interfaces, build to serve the needs of segmentation, navigation, and visualization of the final intra-operative scene. By using preoperative data of the patient (MRI-CT) and image processing techniques, the authors can provide a unique view of the surgical scene. The potentials and the advantages of endoscopic-robotic surgeries nowadays can be improved. Augmented surgery scenes with information about the patients underline structures, enables wider situation awareness, precision, and confidence.
