The current college English online teaching mode is mainly based on the traditional online MOOC teaching, which has some problems such as poor interaction. Under the mixed background, this paper studies the online college English teaching model based on the Gaussian mutation genetic algorithm and neural network algorithm. Firstly, it briefly introduces the general situation of network English teaching and the hybrid application of the Gaussian mutation genetic algorithm. Through the investigation and test analysis of students before and after class, the experiment evaluates students’ network teaching quality in many aspects. On this basis, a better teaching quality evaluation model is proposed. Finally, the practical application shows that the model in this paper is very feasible. In the end, students have higher enthusiasm and seriousness in the hybrid context of college English online teaching based on the dual algorithm. English teaching quality can make use of each student’s test scores in English classroom. This paper realizes the overall teaching through real-time dynamic tracking. Quantitative indicators are used to sort the influence degree of English classroom teaching indicators, which can effectively evaluate the quality of English classroom teaching.

In the Internet age, the proliferation of multimedia computer technology (MCT) brings unprecedented opportunities to English teaching in colleges. This paper firstly carries out a questionnaire survey on the current status of personalized teaching of college English, and summed up the main problems with the current teaching mode. On this basis, the authors developed an MCT-based personalized English teaching design, with the aid of information technology (IT) and online teaching platform. To verify its effect, the proposed design was tested through contrastive experiment. The results show that the MCT-based personalized English teaching design could improve the interests and performance of English learning, and cultivate a good learning habit. In summary, this paper explores the personalized teaching of college English from both theoretical and practical angles, laying a good basis for high-quality English teaching and personalized development of students.

The online teaching platform is a major application of information-based educa-tion. If adopted for foreign language teaching, the platform can greatly facilitate the utilization of network resources and enhance the students’ abilities in listen-ing, speaking, reading and writing. This paper develops an information-based online foreign language teaching platform with the aid of ASP.NET. The SQL was selected as the backend database and accessed via ADO.NET. Taking the browser/server (B/S) structure was adopted as the network architecture, the plat-form was programmed in C# and realized using Microsoft Visual Studio (VS) 2005. Through testing, the proposed platform was proved to achieve all expected functions and satisfy the demand of college English teaching in a safe and stable manner. The research findings promote the quality and informatization of English teaching.

Despite a voluminous literature addressing English language teaching, the explorations focused on knowledge-building are rather limited in number. This is particularly the case with China’s tertiary English education. Unlike existing research, this study investigated Chinese college English teachers’ knowledge-building about rhetorical figures by drawing on the ideas of Autonomy and Semantics in Legitimation Code Theory. Designed as sequential mixed-method research with a development purpose, the study takes as its analytical data the pedagogic discourse generated in the finals of China’s National College English Teaching Context. It was found that the knowledge practices about rhetorical figures vary, for one thing, in their likelihood of shifting to introjected codes and returning to the initial sovereign code and the motivations for their possible drift into exotic codes; and for another, in whether they are unpacking-oriented, repacking-oriented, or unpacking-and-repacking-integrated. With this, the study demonstrated how varied knowledge practices in English language teaching or English-medium teaching can be portrayed, distinguished and explicated in terms of autonomy and semantic code shifts and by reference to their display of autonomy pathways and semantic profiles. The study also makes contributions by actualizing the perspectival complementarity between Autonomy and Semantics in describing and interpreting pedagogic practices, shedding light on the design and improvement of knowledge-building in both English language teaching and disciplinary teaching, and highlighting the necessity of developing non-native English teachers’ metalinguistic awareness of Legitimation Code Theory and systemic functional linguistics.
