The impact of the pandemic's environmental change has affected the work-life of employees and has an impact on the level of job satisfaction and employee performance. This study aimed to determine and explain how work-life balance affects employee performance through job satisfaction as an intervening variable. This research is a type of quantitative research. The object of the research at PDAM Giri Tirta, Gresik Regency, Menganti Branch. Sampling technique using the saturated technique, namely all populations of the research object, totalling 32 employees as the research sample. This study uses Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis with the help of SmartPLS 3.3.2 software. The results showed that work-life balance had a significant positive effect on employee performance. Work-life balance has a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Job satisfaction has no significant effect but is positively related to employee performance, and work-life balance does not significantly affect employee performance through job satisfaction. So that job satisfaction does not have a mediating role between work-life balance and employee performance

The positive characteristics that can help people juggle their work and personal roles and experience greater job satisfaction are attracting increased research attention. This study presents a conceptual model to account for the association between employees’ positive orientation (i.e., the tendency to evaluate self, life, and the future in a positive way) and their job satisfaction (N = 108). As theorized, the results indicate that employees’ ability to manage their work-life balance fully mediates the relation between their positive orientation and job satisfaction. This suggests that a positive orientation serves as an adaptive personal resource that can facilitate employees’ ability to balance work and non-work demands and hence can foster job satisfaction. The practical implications for positive psychological interventions in organizational settings are discussed.

PurposeIt is analyzed whether working from home improves or impairs the job satisfaction and the work–life balance and under which conditions.Design/methodology/approachBlocks of influences on job satisfaction and work–life balance – personal traits, job characteristics, skills and employment properties – are estimated separately and in combination. To select the variables, the least angle regression is applied. The entropy balancing approach is used to determine causal effects. The study investigates whether imbalances are determined by private or job influences, whether firm-specific regulations and the selected control group affect the results and whether it only takes place during leisure time.FindingsNo clear effects of remote work on job satisfaction are revealed, but the impact on work–life balance is generally negative. If the imbalance is conditioned by private interests, this is not corroborated in contrast to job conditioned features. Employees working from home are happier than those who want to work at home, job satisfaction is higher and work–life balance is not worse under a strict contractual agreement than under a nonbinding commitment.Originality/valueA wide range of personality traits, skills, employment properties and job characteristics are incorporated as determinants. The problem of causality is investigated. It is analyzed whether the use of alternative control and treatment groups leads to different results. The empirical investigation is based on new German data with three waves.

The main aim of this research is to contribute to the body of literature revolving around work-life balance (WLB) and its causal relationship with desired workplace outcomes. Particularly, the interest was directed towards investigating the linkage between WLB practices and workplace attitudes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment along with the mediation effect of work-life conflict. The research also sought to differentiate between formal and informal WLB practices in order to examine the more influential of the two.

This research was applied to the context of private hospitals in Jordan targeting medical-staff. With 450 questionnaires randomly distributed to medical-staff working in private hospitals in Jordan, 363 responses were obtained and analyzed yielding a response rate of 81 percent. Fitness-of-measure tests (reliability and validity) were first carried out to assess the suitability and generalizability of the obtained sample. Subsequently, data was analyzed and the research hypotheses were tested for possibility of rejection.

Results revealed the rejection of all hypotheses implying a statistically significant relationship between WLB practices and workplace attitudes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment with the former being more affected by the relationship than the latter. The findings also confirmed the mediation effect of work-life conflict. Furthermore, informal WLB practices were found to be superior to formal practices in terms of attaining desirable organizational outcomes. Finally, the research disclosed the fact that physicians—of all the segments under study—had the most conflict between work and life responsibilities.

Working poverty affects over half the world’s working population, yet we know remarkably little about the role of wages in transitioning toward sustainable livelihood. We develop and test a model whereby as pay approaches a living wage range, pay fairness becomes clearly associated with work–life balance; this in turn links to job satisfaction, which is a four-step process at the psychological level. We further extend this by testing a moderated mediated model, whereby income level is tested as a boundary condition. Using data from N = 873 New Zealand employees, we focus on relatively low-waged employees across three levels of income: up to $20,000, $20–40,000, and $40–60,000, with the last band straddling the New Zealand Living Wage. We find strong support for pay fairness predicting work–life balance and job satisfaction, with work–life balance mediating the relationship toward job satisfaction. In addition, we find direct effects from income to work–life balance, although not job satisfaction. Furthermore, two-way moderation is supported toward work–life balance and job satisfaction, with higher income employees reporting higher outcomes when fairness is high. The index of moderated mediation is also significantly supporting, indicating that work–life balance has a stronger mediation effect as income rises. Thus, as workers emerged from working poverty, pay fairness, and in turn work–life balance, became psychologically more salient for happiness at work, implying that a pathway to Sustainable Development Goal 8 includes at least three psychological steps, in addition to the pecuniary issue of pay: fairness, work–life balance, and job satisfaction.
