Subject. Tooth decay is still among the most common diseases. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allow individualizing preventive measures depending on the socio-medical, climatic and other conditions of a particular region. A literature review is devoted to the actual problem of dentistry - factors affecting the development of dental caries and periodontal diseases. The purpose of the study is to analyze literature to study the factors affecting the state of the dental status of the population of Russia. Methodology. A review of literature sources was carried out and factors affecting the status of dental status were analyzed. Results. Risk factors affecting the degree of caries resistance of tooth hard tissues and determining their stability were divided into: providing local anti-carious protection of the teeth; creating an indirect general anti-carious protection of the teeth at the level of the human body as a whole; increasing the degree of risk in the development and course of diseases and/or reducing the degree of protective properties of hard tissues of the tooth; indirectly, through external systems in relation to a given organism as a system, ensuring the likelihood of developing a caries morbidity. Conclusions. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allows individualizing preventive measures depending on a set of factors. Literature data confirm that timely visits to the dentist for preventive purposes, the implementation of the doctor’s recommendations for individual preventive measures, reducing the frequency of food intake, which include refined and “sticky” sugar-containing components, balancing the diet will help maintain dental health.

Introduction. The child's dental health is an integral part of his overall health. Its formation is influenced by the same factors as the formation of somatic health [1, 2, 3]. The modern stage of development of pediatric dental care is characterized by increased attention to the problem of providing qualified medical therapeutic and preventive care for children with somatic diseases. One such disease is bronchial asthma (BA) – a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract involving a variety of cellular elements [2, 4, 8].The aim of the study – to assess the condition of hard tissues of teeth and periodontal tissues in children aged 7–15 years, suffering from bronchial asthma.Materials and Methods. The study was performed on the basis of children's pulmonology departments of district and city hospitals in the Ternopil region. We examined 240 children aged 7–15 years, patients with bronchial asthma who were the main group. As a comparison, 100 children without somatic pathology of the same age were examined. To assess the dental status of children, an examination was carried out using a standard set of dental instruments. The following parameters were evaluated: the prevalence of caries of temporary and permanent teeth, the intensity of caries in CP and CPI indices, the prevalence and intensity of periodontal diseases according to the SRI index. To assess the hygienic state of the oral cavity, a simplified OHI-S hygiene index was used (J.C. Green, J.R. Vermillion, 1964). The obtained data were recorded in a specially made child examination chart and were developed statistically using the software Statistica, 7 (StatSoft Inc.) [7].Results and Discussion. Dental examination of children with bronchial asthma and their peers without concomitant somatic incidence allowed establishing the main indicators of dental status in children.Conclusions. In children with bronchial asthma, there is a steady tendency to increase the frequency of carious lesions and severe inflammatory conditions in the periodontium, and with age, the prevalence of dental diseases in this contingent of children increases with respect to these children without concomitant somatic morbidity. Insufficient level of oral hygiene is one of the risk factors for the development of pathology of hard tissues of teeth and periodontal.

Relevance. Periodontal diseases are a medical and social problem due to the wide spread among the population of developed countries and the impact on the quality of life. Among the many factors that are important in the development of inflammatory periodontal diseases, an important role is played by adherence to the recommendations of the dentist in respecting oral hygiene. Aim of the work was to study the adherence of patients of the dental clinic to compliance with preventive measures in the oral cavity.Materials and methods. A total of 98 patients of dental clinic, 62 female (medial age 38,6 ± 14,0 years) and 36 male (medial age 37,2±13,1 years) participated in survey. The study participants flled in the profle and answered questions about age, gender, harmful working conditions and bad habits, frequency of visits to the dental clinic, attitudes to the prevention of dental diseases, knowledge about the means and methods of oral hygiene.Results. As a result of the study, it was found that in the vast majority of cases, respondents are employed in production that does not adversely affect their health (91%), only 8% of patients indicated harmful working conditions.Conclusions. The study revealed that, despite the recommendations of the dentist, patients are not always committed to the implementation of preventive measures in the oral cavity. Dentists need to motivate patients to use not only the usual methods and means of hygiene, but also additional ones necessary for maintaining dental health.

Aim. Evaluation of dental diseases prevalence in professional athletes engaged in power sports and of the influence of biologically neutral products based on propolis on the level of their dental health. Methods. The examination of organs and tissues of the oral cavity of professional athletes engaged for a long time in power sports was carried out. With the use of the developed specialized questionnaire dental status of the athletes was determined. Based on the analysis of the results of clinical and laboratory studies anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effectiveness of products based on propolis were evaluated. Results. The results of the survey showed that not all athletes are informed about the possibility of aggravation of pathological processes in soft and hard tissues of oral cavity during active training, mainly, in power sports. Lack of awareness of surveyed athletes about the need for timely individual oral hygiene procedures and regular dentist visits was revealed, especially during intense training before and after competitions. On evaluation of dental status of professional combat athletes high prevalence and intensity of inflammatory periodontal disease and caries were found. High anti-inflammatory efficiency of the product «Pomegranate Balm» for correction of dental status of professional athletes was proven. Conclusion. High incidence of inflammatory periodontal diseases of mild to moderate severity was revealed in athletes during prolonged and intense physical training; efficacy of biologically neutral products based on propolis was established.

Necrotizing periodontal diseases pose a clinical significance because it has been associated with a severe prognosis that can cumulatively lead to rapid tissue destruction. A slow rate of destruction has been reported for patients with necrotizing periodontal diseases, and reports show that chronicity might be a characteristic in some patients, while many patients might also suffer from disease recurrence. The association of other oral lesions might also be a characteristic in some situations, which usually occurs in cases when systemic involvement is present. In the present literature review, we aim to discuss the etiology and types of necrotizing periodontal diseases based on evidence from the different related studies in the literature. Microbiology plays an important role in the pathogenesis of the condition, and some organisms as spirochetes were directly correlated with the etiology of the condition. Evidence also shows that the presence of the different risk factors might be the major contributor to the development of the condition as different risk factors were found to be directly correlated with the disease. Among the different factors, impacted host immune response and the presence of deteriorating systemic conditions have been widely reported in the literature as significant factors predisposing to developing the disease. Other factors as smoking and alcohol consumption, previous history of the disease, and other oral lesions, were also reported. Further research is needed for better classification of the condition and determination of more significant risk factors.

As a result of the continuing changes in the condition of tissues and organs of the dental cavity and the body as a whole, there is a rise in the intensity of tooth decay and periodontal diseases with the onset of pregnancy. The aim of our research was to look into the prevalence and severity of pathology in the hard tissues of teeth and periodontal tissues during pregnancy, as well as to figure out how to better organize therapeutic and prophylactic steps for pregnant women. A comprehensive epidemiological study of 170 pregnant women aged 18 to 40 living in Tbilisi was carried out according to the WHO method. The findings show a high prevalence of dental cavity (from 61 percent to 98.8%) and a high severity of dental caries among pregnant women (from 2.55 1.03 to 14.31 5.44). The intensity of caries indicators increased as the gestational stage lengthened, but the greatest increase was observed in the second trimester of pregnancy. The results indicate a substantial prevalence of periodontal pathology (according to the PMA index) among pregnant women, with the level of pathology increasing with their age and gestational age (from 41.7 percent to 78.8 percent). By the end of the second trimester of pregnancy, the most noticeable improvements in periodontal tissues had been observed. Oral hygiene played a big role in determining the presence and incidence of periodontal disease. Low dental health indicators and worsening dental status during pregnancy point to the need for a more comprehensive diagnosis of all risk factors for major dental diseases, as well as the implementation of all stages of therapeutic and prophylactic interventions during pregnancy, based on the findings of a complete dental examination.

During the pregnancy period woman repeatedly seeks medical aid and consults different medical specialists. Meanwhile, there is no continuity for dynamic monitoring of pregnant woman’s health. The level of knowledge of medical personnel concerning prevention of main dental diseases must be high enough, as the influence on manageable risk factors is under their responsibilities. However, this level is confirmed neither in Russian, nor in the foreign literature. Aim - study of awareness of medical personnel who monitor pregnant women on the issues concerning prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Data and methods. A survey was conducted among 127 medical doctors of different specialities (obstetrician-gynecologists, dentists, pediatricians), working for state budgetary public health organizations of Samara. Results. The study highlighted a low level of primary health care doctors’ awareness on preventive measures for the main dental diseases of pregnant women (absence of motivation for dental diseases prevention and oral hygiene, inadequate knowledge about fluoride importance for caries prevention, exaggeration of the influence of non-manageable risk factors (heredity, ecological environment) on dental pathology development, a high level of reliance on information from the mass media about preventive measures in dentistry). Conclusion. It is necessary to improve the level of knowledge of doctors who monitor pregnant women. It can be achieved by the increase of doctors’ awareness (organization of lectures and seminars, development and production of visual aids for doctors of different specialities and mid-level medical staff).

The stomatological aid is one of the most mass types of medical care which the population receives mainly in out-patient and polyclinic establishments. The purpose of this research is to study the needs in dental care depending on the following factors: socio-economic living conditions, medical activity, development of dental clinics chains, access to care and cultural level of the population. Different methods: historical, sociological, statistical were used. According to the results of research, the caries and its complications were revealed in 96.3% of dental profile patients. 80% of patients need in treatment, removal and prosthetics. Periodontal diseases suffered 86.5% of patients. Among patients of municipal dental clinic and non-state dental center, the number of respondents with increasing age is reduced significantly, which assess their dental health as «good». The number of patients, who believes his dental health as «bad», is increased. The obtained data indicate a low number of appeals to the dentist with the preventive purpose, as well as the wide dissemination of the bad habits, leading to diseases of the teeth and mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The identified risk factors of dental diseases must be considered for development of individual and group programs of prevention.
