During the pregnancy period woman repeatedly seeks medical aid and consults different medical specialists. Meanwhile, there is no continuity for dynamic monitoring of pregnant woman’s health. The level of knowledge of medical personnel concerning prevention of main dental diseases must be high enough, as the influence on manageable risk factors is under their responsibilities. However, this level is confirmed neither in Russian, nor in the foreign literature. Aim - study of awareness of medical personnel who monitor pregnant women on the issues concerning prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Data and methods. A survey was conducted among 127 medical doctors of different specialities (obstetrician-gynecologists, dentists, pediatricians), working for state budgetary public health organizations of Samara. Results. The study highlighted a low level of primary health care doctors’ awareness on preventive measures for the main dental diseases of pregnant women (absence of motivation for dental diseases prevention and oral hygiene, inadequate knowledge about fluoride importance for caries prevention, exaggeration of the influence of non-manageable risk factors (heredity, ecological environment) on dental pathology development, a high level of reliance on information from the mass media about preventive measures in dentistry). Conclusion. It is necessary to improve the level of knowledge of doctors who monitor pregnant women. It can be achieved by the increase of doctors’ awareness (organization of lectures and seminars, development and production of visual aids for doctors of different specialities and mid-level medical staff).

Phlebitis is one of nosocomial infections that frequently occurred in hospitals. Phlebitis is mainly related with infusion and therapy. Many risk factors can cause phlebitis. The purpose of this study was to predict the prevalence of phlebitis in patients based on the causal factors in Banyumas Regional Hospital. The design of this study was an analytic survey of cohort approach, with a sample of 218 by using consecutive sampling. The study was conducted from November to December 2019 using checklist of observation sheets. The results demonstrates 5 phlebitis risk factors associated with the occurrence of phlebitis, namely the type of fluid (P = 0.011), nutritional status (P = 0.001), catheter size (P = 0.002), injection therapy (P = 0.027) and comorbidities (P = 0.003). The probability of 5 risk factors for the occurrence of phlebitis (88.28%) with nutritional status being the dominant factor (b = 3.928) with probability of (13.48%). To minimize the prevalence of phlebitis, the medical personnel may conduct initial phlebitis screening to determine accurate and appropriate preventive measures.

Background: Good oral health is important for women during pregnancy and throughout their lives. Mothers with good oral health are less likely to transmit cariogenic bacteria to their infants and toddlers. Thus, maternal oral health is directly related to family health. Objective: To determine the prevalence of dental caries, periodontal diseases and modifiable risk factors among pregnant women seeking antenatal care in three referral hospitals in Bhutan. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey of pregnant women was conducted in April-May 2017. We used a non-probability sampling method to recruit pregnant women (n=443). Oral examinations were done according to methods recommended by the WHO. Participants completed a questionnaire for modifiable risk factors. Results: Overall, caries prevalence was 40% among pregnant women, ranging from 54% in those under 25 to 81% in women 35 and older. The mean decayed, missing and filled permanent teeth (DMFT) was 1.93 (SD=2.66). Nearly 72% of women had calculus on their teeth. Just over 2% had periodontitis. Most women rated their oral health as good to excellent (89%) versus poor (11%). Just 11% reported having had dental care during pregnancy. Conclusions: There is an urgent need for professional dental care during pregnancy, especially among older and multiparous women. Increasing awareness on the importance of oral health during pregnancy will improve maternal health and the health of their young children.

This study aimed to investigate (1) pregnant women’s level of knowledge of lifestyle-related risk factors during pregnancy and their potential health impact on their offspring, and (2) the factors affecting women’s knowledge of lifestyle-related risk factors during pregnancy. A cross-sectional observational study of pregnant women was carried out in obstetric and gynecologic care settings at three hospitals in Southern Germany. Data from 209 pregnant women revealed large knowledge gaps on lifestyle-related risk factors during pregnancy and their potential health impact. Factors affecting women’s knowledge of lifestyle-related risk factors during pregnancy were specifically associated with socioeconomic status, e.g., lower household net income, middle educational level, and statutory health insurance status. Women who had received information from their gynecologist had a higher level of knowledge of lifestyle-related risk factors during pregnancy. This study showed that health promotion regarding lifestyle-related risks during pregnancy specifically needs to address women from the low-to-middle socioeconomic status group. Gynecologists seem particularly effective in providing this information.

As a result of the continuing changes in the condition of tissues and organs of the dental cavity and the body as a whole, there is a rise in the intensity of tooth decay and periodontal diseases with the onset of pregnancy. The aim of our research was to look into the prevalence and severity of pathology in the hard tissues of teeth and periodontal tissues during pregnancy, as well as to figure out how to better organize therapeutic and prophylactic steps for pregnant women. A comprehensive epidemiological study of 170 pregnant women aged 18 to 40 living in Tbilisi was carried out according to the WHO method. The findings show a high prevalence of dental cavity (from 61 percent to 98.8%) and a high severity of dental caries among pregnant women (from 2.55 1.03 to 14.31 5.44). The intensity of caries indicators increased as the gestational stage lengthened, but the greatest increase was observed in the second trimester of pregnancy. The results indicate a substantial prevalence of periodontal pathology (according to the PMA index) among pregnant women, with the level of pathology increasing with their age and gestational age (from 41.7 percent to 78.8 percent). By the end of the second trimester of pregnancy, the most noticeable improvements in periodontal tissues had been observed. Oral hygiene played a big role in determining the presence and incidence of periodontal disease. Low dental health indicators and worsening dental status during pregnancy point to the need for a more comprehensive diagnosis of all risk factors for major dental diseases, as well as the implementation of all stages of therapeutic and prophylactic interventions during pregnancy, based on the findings of a complete dental examination.

Subject. Tooth decay is still among the most common diseases. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allow individualizing preventive measures depending on the socio-medical, climatic and other conditions of a particular region. A literature review is devoted to the actual problem of dentistry - factors affecting the development of dental caries and periodontal diseases. The purpose of the study is to analyze literature to study the factors affecting the state of the dental status of the population of Russia. Methodology. A review of literature sources was carried out and factors affecting the status of dental status were analyzed. Results. Risk factors affecting the degree of caries resistance of tooth hard tissues and determining their stability were divided into: providing local anti-carious protection of the teeth; creating an indirect general anti-carious protection of the teeth at the level of the human body as a whole; increasing the degree of risk in the development and course of diseases and/or reducing the degree of protective properties of hard tissues of the tooth; indirectly, through external systems in relation to a given organism as a system, ensuring the likelihood of developing a caries morbidity. Conclusions. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allows individualizing preventive measures depending on a set of factors. Literature data confirm that timely visits to the dentist for preventive purposes, the implementation of the doctor’s recommendations for individual preventive measures, reducing the frequency of food intake, which include refined and “sticky” sugar-containing components, balancing the diet will help maintain dental health.
