Subject. Tooth decay is still among the most common diseases. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allow individualizing preventive measures depending on the socio-medical, climatic and other conditions of a particular region. A literature review is devoted to the actual problem of dentistry - factors affecting the development of dental caries and periodontal diseases. The purpose of the study is to analyze literature to study the factors affecting the state of the dental status of the population of Russia. Methodology. A review of literature sources was carried out and factors affecting the status of dental status were analyzed. Results. Risk factors affecting the degree of caries resistance of tooth hard tissues and determining their stability were divided into: providing local anti-carious protection of the teeth; creating an indirect general anti-carious protection of the teeth at the level of the human body as a whole; increasing the degree of risk in the development and course of diseases and/or reducing the degree of protective properties of hard tissues of the tooth; indirectly, through external systems in relation to a given organism as a system, ensuring the likelihood of developing a caries morbidity. Conclusions. Determination of risk factors, their quantitative characteristics allows individualizing preventive measures depending on a set of factors. Literature data confirm that timely visits to the dentist for preventive purposes, the implementation of the doctor’s recommendations for individual preventive measures, reducing the frequency of food intake, which include refined and “sticky” sugar-containing components, balancing the diet will help maintain dental health.

THE ROOTS of implementation science (IS) in cancer in some sense date back to the earliest days of uncovering cancer’s etiology, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, although it was not called that. Indeed, unlocking the mysteries of cancer and determining effective ways to intervene began not in the lab but, rather, the clinic. As Mukherjee recounted in the seminal work, The Emperor of All Maladies, 1 cancer had been the subject of clinical examination for centuries, and the drive to optimize care began in those early days. As opposed to the largely separate worlds of research discovery and care delivery that exist today, scientific research and cancer treatment coexisted. In addition, epidemiologic observations of risk factors affecting oncogenesis developed targets for what types of prevention programs needed to be implemented. Naturally, the challenges of what exactly to implement and how best to implement have been with us throughout time.

Oral infections and cardiovascular diseases share common biological and behavioral risk factors. Psychosocial determinants could act as a link between general health behavior and dental health behavior. Our objective was to study optimism and life satisfaction as determinants of general and dental health behavior and to evaluate whether these are connected with cardiovascular risk factors and dental diseases. The 1966 Northern Finland Birth Cohort (N = 12,058) is a general population birth cohort. In a postal questionnaire, respondents (N = 8690) were asked about their health behavior and dental status. Cardiovascular risk factors were assessed in health examinations (N = 6033). Generalized linear regression models were used in analysis. The results showed that health orientation increases with strengthening life satisfaction and optimism. Dental health behavior and general health behavior were associated with both cardiovascular risk factors and self-reported dental diseases, which support the assumption that they share a common behavioral background.

Introduction. Due to the growing prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) among the adult population of industrialized countries, the issues of prevention and treatment of this disease are under the close attention of researchers and are among the most pressing problems of modern cardiology.Material and methods. The survey of 110 employees (84 women and 26 men) of one of the scientific libraries of Baku city was conducted with the help of a set of standard methods of epidemiological research in cardiology. Results of the research. The presence of AH was found in 26.4% of persons in the institution under study. Moreover, 15.5% of them were patients with AH, the remaining 10.9% were patients who did not know about their disease. In order to determine the possible risk of new cases of AH in this institution, a comparative analysis of the frequency of occurrence of the main risk factors (RF) of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among the surveyed staff with the presence and absence of AH was conducted. Although all patients without AH were younger than 40 years of age, the incidence of major RF of CVD was noted, in some cases close to that of patients with AH.Conclusion. The received data testify to the fact that the introduction of preventive measures aimed at the correction of the RF of CVD taking into account the specific conditions and specifics of work in the institution under study will significantly reduce the possibility of new cases of AH among the investigated category of patients.

During the pregnancy period woman repeatedly seeks medical aid and consults different medical specialists. Meanwhile, there is no continuity for dynamic monitoring of pregnant woman’s health. The level of knowledge of medical personnel concerning prevention of main dental diseases must be high enough, as the influence on manageable risk factors is under their responsibilities. However, this level is confirmed neither in Russian, nor in the foreign literature. Aim - study of awareness of medical personnel who monitor pregnant women on the issues concerning prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Data and methods. A survey was conducted among 127 medical doctors of different specialities (obstetrician-gynecologists, dentists, pediatricians), working for state budgetary public health organizations of Samara. Results. The study highlighted a low level of primary health care doctors’ awareness on preventive measures for the main dental diseases of pregnant women (absence of motivation for dental diseases prevention and oral hygiene, inadequate knowledge about fluoride importance for caries prevention, exaggeration of the influence of non-manageable risk factors (heredity, ecological environment) on dental pathology development, a high level of reliance on information from the mass media about preventive measures in dentistry). Conclusion. It is necessary to improve the level of knowledge of doctors who monitor pregnant women. It can be achieved by the increase of doctors’ awareness (organization of lectures and seminars, development and production of visual aids for doctors of different specialities and mid-level medical staff).

The stomatological aid is one of the most mass types of medical care which the population receives mainly in out-patient and polyclinic establishments. The purpose of this research is to study the needs in dental care depending on the following factors: socio-economic living conditions, medical activity, development of dental clinics chains, access to care and cultural level of the population. Different methods: historical, sociological, statistical were used. According to the results of research, the caries and its complications were revealed in 96.3% of dental profile patients. 80% of patients need in treatment, removal and prosthetics. Periodontal diseases suffered 86.5% of patients. Among patients of municipal dental clinic and non-state dental center, the number of respondents with increasing age is reduced significantly, which assess their dental health as «good». The number of patients, who believes his dental health as «bad», is increased. The obtained data indicate a low number of appeals to the dentist with the preventive purpose, as well as the wide dissemination of the bad habits, leading to diseases of the teeth and mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The identified risk factors of dental diseases must be considered for development of individual and group programs of prevention.

The aim of the work was the definition of informativeness of European indicators in a comprehensive assessment of the state of periodontal tissues in children of school age and identification possible relationships with behavioral risk factors for periodontal disease. Analytical dental epidemiology was employed, using the EGOHID-2005 system. Oral hygiene and dental caries were assessed in 12- 15-year-old children in Poltava city. The main determinants of periodontal tissue diseases were non-observance of children a recommended regime of brushing teeth and unhealthy habits. Systematic monitoring of major dental diseases allows to determine their tendencies and, using European system of indicators of dental health, allows to identify the risk factors to be eliminated in order to prevent periodontal tissue diseases.
