Introduction: Hospitals have a very important role in responding to disasters. Since nurses are one of the largest group of the health team and play multi-roles in patient treatment, improvement of their knowledge and skills helps them to act better in disasters.The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a disaster management training program on the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of nursing staffs. Methods: The present interventional study was conducted in Shahid Rahnemoon Hospital, Yazd, Iran in 2018. At first, 40 nurses were randomly selected and their level of knowledge, attitude, and practice was measured using the questionnaire of nurses’ preparedness in disasters. The questionnaire consisted of 72 items; The total attainable score was 132 in the questionnaire. Then, the disaster preparedness training program was implemented. The program was conducted in the form of a one-day workshop for eight hours. One month after the education program, the nurses' level of readiness, including their knowledge, attitude, and practice was re-evaluated using the same questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted by paired samples t-test using SPSS 22. Results: The results of the study showed that the mean score of nurses' knowledge increased from 14.23 to 21.30, the mean scores of their attitude increased from 62.20 to 71.67, and their performance mean score increased from 7.28 to 11.88. These differences were statistically significant (p <0.001). Furthermore, the total mean score of nurses’ readiness increased from 82.28 to 104.53, which was statistically significant (p <0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of the study, the educational program increased the nurses' preparedness containing their knowledge, attitude, and practice in responding to disasters. Consequently, continuous education courses on crisis and disaster management are necessary. The nurses are also recommended to participate in these courses to increase their readiness.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) kills more than 4.9 million adults yearly, and it is one of the major threats to global public health for low- and middle-income countries that mostly affects the adult population. Kiribati is currently facing the increasing prevalence of morbidity and mortality from T2DM. OBJECTIVE: To find out the level of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) towards T2DM among healthy adults in South Tarawa, Kiribati. METHODS: This cross sectional study was conducted on South Tarawa, Kiribati at three randomly selected public health clinics from September 25 to November 20, 2017. Non-diabetic patients from both sexes who aged 18 years and above were selected by a simple random sampling technique to participate in this study. A pretested structured questionnaire was used to collect data and SPSS (version 22) was used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics was used to study the characteristics of the population and level of KAP. RESULTS: 405 person participated in this study. Majority of the participants were in the age range of 18-24 years (30.4%), were females (66.2%) and had ever married (68.6%). The study revealed that the mean knowledge score was 20.47 (&plusmn;3.49) which shows that participants had moderate level of knowledge towards T2DM. The mean score for attitude score was 61.06 (&plusmn;5.48) which shows that participants had high level of attitude towards T2DM. The mean practice score was 4.57 (&plusmn;2.01) which shows that participants had a low level of practice towards T2DM. CONCLUSION: A great emphasis on health education regarding symptoms, risk factors modification and prevention is T2DM are necessary.

Background: Millions of people worldwide suffer from foodborne diseases every year. So, these diseases are recognized as one of the most common problems worldwide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of education on knowledge, attitude, and practice of catering staffs about food hygiene and safety in Yazd City, Iran. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted among 55 employees of catering in Yazd in 2018. The cluster random sampling method was applied to select the participants. Data collection tool was a questionnaire containing four parts of demographic, knowledge, attitude, and practice data. Prior to the intervention, all participants were asked to complete the questionnaire. Later, they were provided with the necessary training for 8 hours in four consecutive weeks. Two months after the intervention, the participants were asked to complete the same questionnaire again. Results: The mean score of before and after the intervention of the participants' knowledge, attitude, and practice were 19.32 ± 3.15, 22.69 ± 4.99, 13.20 ± 1.74, 25.07 ± 3.51, 35.21 ± 2.64 and 17.40 ± 3.48, respectively. prior to and after the intervention, respectively. Based on the findings, the participants' mean score of knowledge, attitude, and practice increased significantly after the educational course (P < 0.05). A significant difference was also observed between the mean scores of practice and work experience before and after the intervention (P < 0.05). Conclusions: According to the results, the educational content should be revised and implementation of the acquired knowledge should be improved in order to achieve the desired level of knowledge, attitude, and practice. In addition, education on food hygiene should be continuous and meticulously planned.

ABSTRACT Objective: Nursing education plays a significant role in preparing nurses for disasters; it helps in increasing their knowledge about disasters. The purpose of this study was to explore the attitude of nursing educators in Jordan toward the integration of disaster preparedness contents in nursing curricula. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was used. The instrument comprises 51 Likert-scale items; 150 questionnaires were distributed to nursing educators in all of the private and government universities. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), version 22 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY). Results: One hundred thirty-one (131) results were collected with an 87% response rate. All participants perceived that the integration of a disaster course in nursing curricula is quite important. Findings indicated a lack of nursing educators’ life experiences regarding disaster management. No significant differences were found in terms of age, area of experience, or years of teaching. Incorporating disaster management courses into nursing curricula will help resolve the lack of knowledge. Conclusion: Nursing educators have a low level of knowledge in disaster management. This highlights the necessity for preparing nursing educators for disasters by encouraging their participation in disaster management training. Therefore, they will circulate this information adequately to students accordingly.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of knowledge, attitude and practice of medical team about suitable " Healthcare personnel (HCP) attire". Materials and methods: This is a descriptive study that was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and evaluated knowledge, attitude and performance of physicians and nurses about "Health care personnel (HCP) attire" by a questionnaire. In order to create the questionnaire a panel of experts’ reviews was set and a questionnaire was made through Focus group discussion (FGD). The Variables included age, gender, work experience, type of employees' time, type of jobs, education level, type of employee. Results: This study was conducted on 441 physicians and nurses who were working in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The mean percent of KAP score was 72.6 ± 14.3. The score of the questionnaire in general was 14.91 ± 70.99 for knowledge, 73.5 ± 13.3 for attitude and 73.7 ± 17.1 for performance. Conclusion: According to this survey, the questionnaire score in the general knowledge, attitude and performance about the "Healthcare personnel (HCP) attire" is low.

Background: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is an acute febrile disease. It is one of the most common diseases among humans and animals. Objectives: Due to the presence of the disease in Iran, this study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of farmers about Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 300 farmers in north and south villages of Khorramabad city selected using stratified sampling. The instrument used in the study was a valid and reliable questionnaire to measure the knowledge, attitude, and practice of people in contact with the livestock. After completing the questionnaire, the data were analyzed by SPSS using nonparametric tests (Mann-Whitney-U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman correlation coefficient). Results: The mean age of the participants was 38.94 ± 14.28 years. The mean scores of knowledge, attitude, and practice of the participants regarding CCHF were 18.46 ± 5.05, 40.7 ± 2.18, and 6.42 ± 3.40, respectively. There was a significant relationship between knowledge (P < 0.001), attitude (P < 0.001), and practice (P < 0.001) scores and the education level and marital status (P < 0.001). The results showed a significant inverse correlation between age and attitude (P < 0.001. r = -0.33), knowledge (P < 0.001. r = -0.42), and practice (P < 0.001. r = -0.39). There was a significant positive relationship between practice and knowledge (P = 0.001. r = -0.39) and attitude (P < 0.001. r = -0.39). Conclusions: Due to the insufficient performance of farmers concerning disease prevention and health protection behaviors. implementation of an educational program to increase the level of knowledge could promote their prevention behavior Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.

Background Malaria is still considered to be an important healthproblem in Indonesia. Malaria has been found in islands withdifferent degree of endemicity. Behavior of the community isone of the factors affecting the incidence of malaria in MandailingNatal district.Objective To know the parental knowledge, attitude, and practiceamong parents whose children suffered from malaria or not.Methods A cross sectional study was conducted in six primaryschools and one health centre in October 2004. Subjects wereparents whose children were malaria positive and malaria negativebased on laboratory examination. Sample size was 85 parents foreach group. Selected respondents were interviewed usingstructured questionnaire. Degree of knowledge, attitude, andpractice on malaria were established using scoring system withinthree categories: good, less, and poor. Data were collected andpresented using chi-square and P<0.05 was considered as a levelof significant.Results The mean age of 85 parents whose children were positivemalaria, was 38.47 years (SD 6.67) and the mean age of thosewhose children were negative malaria was 40.41 years (SD 8.05).Parent’s education level was 62.9% primary school and 90% oftheir children were school-aged. There were significant differenceson parental knowledge, attitude and practice in each group(P<0.05). There was also a significant correlation betweenoccupation and knowledge, but not between parental educationlevel and parental age. Parental knowledge and attitude on theincidence of malaria in Mandailing Natal district were good,though their practice were poor.Conclusion There are significant differences on parentalknowledge, attitude and practice, between parents whose childrenwere positive and negative for malaria.

Abstract Background:Pre-marriage counseling coupled with enriching the couple's relationships skills can lead to better relationships. New approaches and programs are being developed today to improve youth skills. Mobile app education is one of the new educational models in this field. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mobile app intervention on knowledge, attitude and practice of youth for healthy marriage.Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2019 on 88 young people (44 couples) who were selected by convenience sampling from youth referred to the premarital counseling center of Falavarjan city (Isfahan). At first, the pre-marriage skills training and counseling app was designed and produced, then this app was installed on the intervention group's cellphone. Data were collected using questionnaire based on the content of the app and its validity and reliability were confirmed. Data were analyzed using SPSS (20) and paired t-test and independent t-test were applied. Results:The mean (SD) of couples' age was 21.11 (5.06) years. The results showed that after installation of educational consulting app in the intervention group, the mean score of knowledge (P = 0.001), attitude (P = 0.001), and practice (P = 0.001) after intervention were significantly higher than before the intervention. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that using mobile-based educational and counseling app increases couples' knowledge, attitude and practice in pre-marital education. Therefore, it is recommended that this type of education (mobile app) be used to promote pre-marriage education classes.

Abstract Study design: A quantitative cross-sectional survey study. Objective To determine the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) among caregivers regarding prevention and care of pressure ulcer in patients with spinal cord injury and relationship between KAP. Setting: Centre for Rehabilitation of Paralysed, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Methods A descriptive correlational design with modified semi-structured questionnaire implemented through convenient sampling procedure. McDonald’s standard of learning outcome measured criteria was used to categorize caregivers’ level of knowledge and practice while, the total scores of attitude were categorized into three levels based on mean percentage and standard deviation: negative attitude below (mean ± 1 SD), neutral level (mean ± 1 SD), and positive attitude above (mean ± 1 SD). The pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) was used to examine the relationships between caregivers’ KAP and p- value of 0.05 or less was considered as statistically significant. Results Our results suggest that caregivers had a moderate level of knowledge (M = 73.68%, SD = 6.43), neutral level of attitude (M = 70.32%, SD = 6.89), and moderate level of practice (M = 74.77%, SD = 9.08). There was a positive correlation between caregivers’ knowledge and attitude (r = 0.30, p < 0.01), and between knowledge and practice (r = 0.37, p < 0.01). However, no correlation existed between attitude and practice (r = 0.12, p > 0.05). Conclusion The study findings suggests that caregivers need to develop a positive attitude and increase their knowledge in order to improve their practice.
