Halal trends knowledge can provide a competitive edge in preparing the millennial generation for the increasing demands of the halal market. Purpose - This study aims to determine the implementation of halal as a distinct competitive advantage in Islamic higher education in preparing the millennial generation at The State Islamic Institute of Surakarta, Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach - The research used quantitative and qualitative methods (mixed method). Quantitative data was collected by giving out questionnaires to final semester students. Qualitative data was obtained from interviews with campus program planners. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics before being interpreted. Findings - The results showed that 72.9% of students had studied the halal concept, 83.3% of students were able to identify halal products from MUI labels, and 45.8% understood the concepts of the Maqasid Shariah. The paper is focused on exploring the factors that support females’ progression in higher education. The mixed methods approach is taken to conduct the research, consequently the study falls in pragmatic paradigm. The structured questionnaire is used to collect quantitative data from 200 university female students, and semi-structured interview protocol is used to generate qualitative data from 15 female students of the same university. Descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) has been used to analyse quantitative data, whereas content analysis has been used to analyse qualitative data. The data highlight that literate parents, global trend of females’ acquisition of higher education, media, availability of jobs and scholarships are supportive factors in females’ progression in higher education. An interesting finding revealed from the data is that ‘Islamic Perspective’ of education is also considered as encouraging factor; generally in Pakistani societal context, especially in remote areas, people use ‘Islamic Perspective’ in a distorted way to restrict their girls from getting higher education.

As Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have only been included in the curriculum in the last decade, many educators globally struggle to integrate GIS practice into their teaching strategies. Following the global trend, South African educators might feel ill equipped as they did not receive formal GIS training in a higher education institution. This paper highlights key global and South African challenges regarding GIS integration. To compare the challenges that South Africa faces with those experienced elsewhere, this mixed method study gleaned data from student educators (n=78) who completed a questionnaire regarding their GIS FET Phase education, followed by in-depth interviews with FET Phase educators (n=10) and two provincial heads of Geography for the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Results from this study indicate a clear global and national pattern of barrier categories.

More educators use serious games (e.g., games where the primary objective is learning rather than enjoyment) to enhance learning due to benefits such as improved understanding and engagement. However, using serious games within project management education is not well understood. The aim of this research is to investigate project management serious games in higher education: i) determine the extent of gamification in PMI-accredited project management programs, and ii) survey university students about their experiences playing project management serious games. Two separate mixed-method studies reveal insights about serious games in higher education and where innovations may be leveraged. Traditional statistics were used to analyze quantitative data, and coding was used to analyze the qualitative data. The results from a global survey of ten PMI-accredited university programs suggest that serious games are embryonic but promising. A case study at one university reveals that students enjoy learning through games but caution against using games to formally assess students’ learning. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research and development.

Abstract: The Covid 19 pandemic limited everyone's space, including adolescents. Online spaces now limit youths who should be free to socialize and interact. Adolescents are preoccupied with online schools, which make them busier in cyberspace than in the real world. This case causes boredom for adolescents and affects their mental health, thus requiring partners to help their problems. This study intends to examine the effectiveness of workshop and simulation methods to empower mosque youth in increasing peer counselor skills during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research approach combines quantitative and qualitative methods (mixed method). The data collection methods were observation, a structured interview, pretest and posttest. Respondents in this study were 22 mosque youths. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics with frequency technique. The qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique consisting of data reduction, data verification, and data presentation. This study's result is increased knowledge and competence shown by mosque youth after participating in peer counselor workshops and simulations. Respondents who had a good understanding of the posttest material were 87%, and in the simulation, respondents were able to practice peer counseling according to the guidelines.

In the article two types of rent are differentiated: resource rent and administrative rent. The latter is linked to restrictions on the access to the field of interactions. The contribution of the theory of public choice and the theory of rent-seeking and directly-unproductive activities is further developed by shifting the emphasis from individual decision-making to interactions between three actors: C, who controls access to the field, A, who gets a competitive edge as a result, and B, who assumes a subjacent position with regard to both A and C, yet still receives a positive gain from transacting. Domination by virtue of a constellation of As, Bs, and Cs interests is illustrated with the help of an in-depth case study of a Russian region. This study combines quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as their triangulation.

Students' Independent Professional Activity in Pedagogical PracticeThe topicality of the research is determined by the need for changes in higher education concerned with implementing the principles of sustainable education. The article focuses on teacher training, highlighting the teacher's profession as an attractive choice of one's career that permits to ensure the development of general and professional skills and an opportunity for new specialists to align with the labour market. The empirical study of students' understanding of their professional activity and of the conditions for its formation is conducted by applying structured interviews (of practice supervisors, students, academic staff); students and experts' questionnaire. Comparative analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and triangulation were used in case studies. As a result, a framework of pedagogical practice organisation has been created in order to form students' independent professional activity. The criteria and indicators of independent professional activity have been formulated and suggestions for designers of study programmes and organisers of the study process have been provided.
