Purpose: The aim of the chapter is to compare the declarations of local and international companies regarding the maintenance of sustainable development initiatives during acrisis. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents the results of a survey conducted in September 2020 on a sample of 500 enterprises located in Poland. Respondents were asked to declare if they will maintain or abandon sustainable development initiatives in a crisis situation. The examples presented a pandemic similar to the one caused by Covid-19, an economic crisis, or a significant decrease in company revenues. Findings: The research showed that the largest group of companies in acrisis situation will completely abandon their initiatives in the field of sustainable development. Another group will give up those initiatives that generate the highest cost. There are some small differences in responses of local and international companies. Companies with foreign entities in the ownership structure seems less likely to give up all initiatives in the field of sustainable development. International companies more often than local companies declare that they do not know which initiatives they will abandon and which will they keep. Research limitations/implications: Factors other than international involvement (e.g. company size, strategic approach to sustainable development) may have a decisive impact on decisions regarding the maintenance of sustainable development initiatives in acrisis. Originality and value: The chapter illustrates the approach to sustainable development by companies classified into various categories: local and international.

Ensuring the sustainable development of agroecosystems requires research into the justification of the impact of environmental factors on the formation of territorial agroecosystems and identifies ways to take them into account in order to justify management decisions and ensure environmental safety. The main goal of the research within the article is to identify the most significant environmental factors in predicting the formation of agroecosystems. Provisions are devoted to the study of the laws governing the functioning of agroecosystems in order to increase their stability. The methods of comparative analysis, generalization, abstraction, logical analysis are applied. A number of provisions are formulated regarding ways to account for the influence of factors on the formation of key elements of agroecosystems.

This Europe and the World: A law review special issue comprises selected papers presented at a RENFORCE workshop on the theme of tensions between the EU’s trade and non-economic values, held at Utrecht University in November 2017. The symposium addresses normative dilemmas underlying the EU’s trade law and policy. Normative dilemmas subsist between, on the one hand, the EU’s basic pursuit of its commercial interests and trade liberalization, and, on the other hand, the EU’s mandate to promote and safeguard a number of non-economic values, including human rights and sustainable development. The journal symposium aims to unveil normative tensions existing in the EU’s trade and investment policy, and understand some of the key actors and processes through which normative tensions are created and also mitigated. While the tensions between economic and non-economic values in the EU’s trade law and policy have been extensively discussed in literature, the present symposium highlights some of the recent developments in the EU’s trade relations, analyses not only human rights but also sustainable development, and examines the impact of new technologies.

Economic sanctions as well as geopolitical situation have set new challenges for Russia. They reflect the necessity of creating an economy that is resistant to both the impact of external, often negative factors, and the need to reformat domestic economic policies. The article deals with the features of the interconnection of the industrial region energy sector and the sustainability of its development. It emphasizes the fact that in the context of an economic crisis the adaptation of regions to new economic conditions is actively influenced by internal factors. The fuel and energy complex is becoming one of the leading domestic resources as well as a catalyst for the related industries. It is noted that unsustainable processes of activating internal regional resources (energy, finance, etc.) hinder achieving sustainable development of the economy.

Food safety is related to health and quality of life. Therefore, the social responsibility of the food industry to ensure food safety has received increasing attention. Influencing factors and mechanisms of participation in food safety certification are important issues in this field. Existing studies on factors affecting food safety certification mainly focus on the impact of a single or few factors. In this study, listed Chinese food companies were selected, and the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method was utilized to explore the matching mode of various factors to encourage companies to obtain food safety certification. The following results were obtained. (1) State-owned companies tend to achieve food safety certification. (2) Companies with high media attention are inclined to achieve food safety certification. (3) In state-owned companies, when the company size is small, a higher degree of food safety concern in the mission statement can encourage the company to achieve food safety certification, and when the company size is large, higher media attention can encourage the company to achieve food safety certification. (4) In non-state-owned companies, when food safety concerns are highlighted in the mission statement and media attention is relatively high, the company will gain food safety certification. This study provides new perspectives on food safety-related research and suggestions for government and the public sector to supervise food safety issues in enterprises.

AbstractThis study examines the effects of China’s cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) on its goods and services exports to ‘Belt and Road’ (B&R) countries for the period 2000–2018 using a gravity model. We find that CBEC has a greater positive impact on trade in services than on trade in goods, especially after the implementation of the B&R initiative. Furthermore, as the level of CBEC rises, distance tends to have a lower (higher) impact on services (goods) trade, whereas the impact on services (goods) trade increased (decreased) annually. Hence, promoting the sustainable development of CBEC can lead to increased export volumes.

The goal of this paper is to present a comparative analysis of two value creation concepts applied in most developed countries: Anglo-American concept of shareholder value creation and the Continental model of stakeholder value creation. In shareholder systems, also known as Anglo-American model, shareholders exert dominant influence. In major stakeholder systems, marked as Continental model, influence is shared between large shareholders, employees, customers and suppliers. The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of globalization and economic crisis on the goals of corporate enterprises, which have largely led to convergence of two opposing value creation concepts.

Companies are created to generate return on investment, profit maximization, in the competitive market it is essential to incorporate positioning strategies, products, prices and quality. The global pandemic COVID-19 forced many companies to redirect their sales strategies, others even had to close operations during the confinement decreed, due to the reduction in consumption and demand for products and services, the micro sector companies were undoubtedly the one that was most affected. The research analyzes the impact of the economic crisis on the financial results of micro companies in the city of Ambato, where the highest per-centage of companies of this type is concentrated. The research was carried out using an adequate method-ology that allowed to know the information directly with the owners of the companies selected in the sample, to generate the discussion results. In agar production one of the most common technological operations is cutting of soil or plants. It makes up at least 70% of the total volume of mechanized works. The purpose of this study is to help maintain the agrotechnological parameters of the cultivator's blade by coating the blade with powder wear-resistant coatings using the one-sided gas-flame surfacing technology. The technology of strengthening the cultivator blade using one-sided gas-flame surfacing is applied. As a result, were defined: powder granulation on the thickness of the applied layer; modes and parameters of the one-sided gas-flame surfacing during the formation of composite material coating. Foreign experience of the last decades shows that with the development of gasometric spraying methods it is possible to atomize various materials such as polymers, carbides, metals. These coatings withstand the impact of high thermal loads, shock-abrasive and chemically active environments. Comparison of application methods mentioned above shows that the quality of coatings expressed in the parameters: adhesions, porosity, oxidation levels remain at approximately the same level. However, a comparative analysis of foreign practice has shown that the method of gas-flame surfacing is more technological, more productivity, and the specific costs of the coating are reduced.
