Development of an optimal technology of heat treatment for blanks of the casing pipe made of steel 40H (GOST 4543) is used in the oil and gas industry for casing. It is accompanied by quenching in various environments to ensure guaranteed obtainment of the required mechanical characteristics. These characteristics are specified in GOST 632-80 and met in order to improve the properties of the 40H steel.

The article is a continuation of the article ,DILATOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF COOLING CURVES FOR HIGH STRENGTH STEEL X153CrMoV12”, which deals with the phase transformations of tool steel X153CrMoV12. The experimental data obtained was used to evaluate the resulting CCT diagram, which consists of seven dilation curves. All experimental samples from dilatometric analyses were then subjected to microstructural analysis and hardness measurements to characterize the microstructure and hardness for each heat treatment mode tested. AFM microscopy was also used to study the carbides present in steels and their size and shape for all selected cooling modes.

transformations in a thin ~4 m foil of PdCu solid solution were investigated by x-ray diffractometry and measurement of electrical resistance in heating-cooling cycles during thermal or rapid photon treatment by radiation of high-power pulsed xenon lamps. It has been found that a single rapid photon treatment for 0,3 s (the energy dose of the radiation entering the sample is 10 j cm‑2) leads to a complete disordering of the solid solution at a rate 400 times greater than in the heat treatment mode used (heating at a rate of 15 K min‑1).

Zircon whiskers were synthesized via non-hydrolytic sol-gel process combined with molten salt method by using anhydrous zirconium tetrachloride as zirconium source, TEOS as silicon source, anhydrous ethanol as solvent, and sodium molybdate as molten salt. The effects of heat treatment mode and cooling rate on the synthesis of zircon whiskers have been studied by means of XRD, FE-SEM, TG and TEM. The results indicate that well-developed whiskers can be prepared through heat treating the sample at 850°C for 3 h followed by a furnace cooling process. The zircon whiskers which were fabricated by this heat treatment mode grew along the [001] direction and showed diameter of 50~100 nm and aspect ratio of 20~30.

AbstractImprovement of glass forming ability (GFA) of two soft magnetic amorphous alloys (Fe75.5Ni1 3Si8.6B13.5 and Co69.6Fe1.3Mn4.5Si14.3B9 3Mo1) by heat treatment of melts prepared from different precursors (bulk ingot, rapidly quenched ribbons and granules) was studied. An assumption that the maximum undercooling ability corresponds to the maximum GFA was used to optimize the heat treatment mode. A temperature range was found by DTA for each alloy melt, favoring its undercooling (so called “undercoolable melt”). Usage of rapidly quenched precursor expands the range towards lower temperatures. GFA of the alloys was estimated by several melt quench techniques (casting, spinning and INROWASP). Fully amorphous samples with the thickness of 0.06–0.5 mm were prepared.

Austempered ductile iron (ADI) is nowadays used for machine parts, which used to be made of steel. It is suitable for abrasive conditions and cast irons exhibit sufficient strength and toughness. The paper deals with the possibility of manufacturing machine parts working in soil of austempered ductile iron. The authors find out the influence of heat treatment mode of ADI on wear resistance and compare it with formed steel.
