Background: Canola is an important oilseed crop throughout the world which is grown in more than 53 countries. Proper nutrient management plays a key role in its production. Use of unbalanced and inadequate fertilizers accompanied by restricted use of organic manures resulting in a decline in crop yield and quality. Little information is available on the response of canola to these factors. Therefore, this study is focused on to evaluate effect of foliar application of sulphur and integrated nutrient management on canola.Methods: A field experiment was conducted on sandy loam soil during winter (Rabi) season of 2017-18 and 2018-19 at Student’s Research Farm, Khalsa college, Amritsar to study the effect of foliar application of sulphur and integrated nutrient management on yield, quality and economics of bed transplanted canola (Brassica napus L.). Canola variety GSC 7 was sown by transplanting method on beds at spacing of 30 cm × 10 cm under Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 6 treatment combinations of organic (Vermicompost and pressmud), inorganic and foliar fertilizer were used under three replications. Result: The results revealed that treatment containing 100% RDF + 40 kgha-1 sulphur + 1% foliar sulphur spray (T2) led to maximum siliqua length (8.5 cm), no. of siliqua plant-1 (547.5), no. of seed siliqua-1 (28.8), test weight (4.64 g), seed yield (24.92 q ha-1) and stover yield (78.53 q ha-1) whereas treatment consisting 100% N through vermicompost + 40 kgha-1 sulphur + 1% foliar sulphur spray (T3) led to highest quality attributes i.e. oil content (43.73%), protein content (30.8%) in seed which was at par with 100% N through pressmud + 40 kgha-1 S + 1% foliar sulphur spray (T4) which also resulted highest sulphur content (0.48%) in seed. The maximum gross return (Rs. 104664 ha-1), net return (Rs. 59049 ha-1) and benefit cost rato (1.29) obtained from treatment containing 100% RDF + 40 kgh-1 sulphur + 1% foliar sulphur spray (T2). It was observed that foliar application of sulphur enhanced the yield whereas application of organic manures improved the quality of canola.

The present study was carried out to examine the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth and yield parameters of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) at Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, U.P. during the year 2018. The field experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The treatments involved in the study were eight in numbers i.e. T1 Control (no fertilizers), T2 (125 kg N + 50 kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O /ha), T3 (100 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 + 48 kg K2O + 5 t FYM /ha) T4 (100 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 + 48 kg K2O + 12 q VC /ha), T5 (75 kg N + 30 kg P2O5 + 36 kg K2O + 10 t FYM /ha), T6 (75 kg N +30 kg P2O5 + 36 kg K2O + 24 q VC /ha), T7 (25 t FYM /ha), T8 (60 q VC /ha). All variable parameters regarding vegetative and reproductive parameters of okra were significantly influenced by integrated nutrient management practices. Soil of the experimental field was sandy loam and neutral in pH reaction. The present investigation clearly indicate that the combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers i.e. T6 (75 kg N +30 kg P2O5 + 36 kg K2O + 24 q VC /ha) had the better effect on growth and yield parameters viz., plant height (129.11 cm), number of nodes on main stem (19.23), fresh weight of plant (351.13 g), dry weight of plant (72.12 g), number of pods per plant (16.13), length of pod (15.80 cm) and yield (134.14 q /ha) as compared to other treatments in case of okra cv. Arka Anamika under Western Uttar Pradesh conditions. On the basis of present investigation, it may be concluded that an integrated use of organic manure with chemical fertilizer increased the growth and yield of okra than that of sole application of either chemical fertilizer or organic manures.

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management modules on garlic yield, nutrient uptake, and pungency during 2011-12 and 2012-13. The experiment consisted of nine treatments that were performed in randomized block design with three replications. Integration of inorganic fertilizers, farm yard manure (FYM) and vermicompost (VC) or poultry manure (PM) or integration of inorganic fertilizers with FYM, VC and PM increased garlic yield by 6.5-7.9 per cent compared to inorganic fertilizers alone and 9.9-11.2 per cent compared to integrated use of single source of organic manure, biofertilizers, and inorganic fertilizers. Pyruvic acid content was higher in the plots received integrated use of inorganic fertilizers, organic manures, and biofertilizers increased soil organic carbon, and maintained soil fertility status compared to pre-planting soil test values. INM treatments had higher levels of nutrient uptake compared to the treatments received inorganic fertilizers alone. This result indicate that the farmers could save 25 per cent inorganic fertilizers and organic manures by integrating inorganic fertilizers, FYM with VC or PM, or by integrating inorganic fertilizers, FYM, VC, and PM.

Field experiment was conducted to study Integrated Nutrient Management for increasing Growth with Sustainability of  Baby Corn on sandy loam soils, low in available N, high in available P and K for two consecutive kharif seasons of 2014 and 2015. The experiment was laid down in randomized block design having seven treatments i.e. T1= Control, T2= 100 per cent recommended dose of N, T3 = 5 tones of FYM + 100 kg inorganic N ha-1, T4= 10 tonne of FYM + 75kg inorganic N ha-1, T5= 15tonne of FYM + 50 kg inorganic N ha-1, T6= 20tonne of FYM + 25 kg inorganic N ha-1, T7= 25 tonne of FYM ha-1 replicated four times. Significant increase in all growth parameters of baby corn was observed with Integrated Nutrient Management over control. Moreover, among nutrient management treatments, the integration of 5 tonne of FYM with 100 kg of inorganic N ha-1 came out to be the best for all growth characters viz. plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf area index and dry matter accumulation.

Aim: “Standardization of integrated nutrient management for growth and yield of tomato”. Study Design: The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design (RBD) with 14 treatments with three replications maintained. Place and Duration of Study: Experiment was carried out at the Instructional Farm, Faculty of Horticulture of Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, and Pundibari, Cooch Behar during Rabi season of 2019 - 2020. Methodology: The treatments consisted of different combinations of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers i.e., T1 (Recommended NPK), T2 (100% FYM), T3 (100% VC), T4 (100% PM), T5 (100% NC), T6 (100% VC + 100% FYM + 100% PM + 100% NC), T7 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 50% VC), T8 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM), T9 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 50% VC + NC), T10 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM + NC), T11 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 50% VC + PSB), T12 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM + PSB), T13 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 50% VC + NC + PSB) and T14 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM + NC + PSB). Results: All the growth and yield parameters were recorded maximum stem girth at last harvest (14.85mm), days to first flowering (27.46), number of truss per plant (20.59), individual fruit weight (127.71g), fruit yield per plant (4.49 kg) and yield per hector (99.52t/ha) with treatment T8 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM). Conclusion: The application of treatment T8 (½ Recommended NPK + 50% FYM + 30% VC + 20% PM) shown enhanced tomato production with minimal alteration to environment.

The study focused on the economic profitability of the utilization of homemade organic pesticide for small scale production of Brassica napus L. varchinensis (Pechay). An experiment was undertaken at the Palayamanan Program at the University of Eastern Philippines to determine the effectiveness of homemade organic pesticide in controlling or preventing insect infestation in Pechay, to find out the effective level of this homemade pesticide and to determine the economic profitability of using homemade organic pesticide and insecticide. To explore the use of homemade extract from garlic, Allium sativum L., hot pepper, Capsicum frutescens L., vinegar and mineral oil in the management of insect pests of Pechay. The design used was the randomized complete block design (RCBD) and the data gathered were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and DMRT at 5% level of significant. There were five treatments made up of 50% extracted organic insecticide diluted in 500ml and 1 litter of water  treatment before the insects will attack (pre–treatment) in weekly intervals and separate application of the same formulation of  the treatment after the insect will attack (post-treatment) two days interval and control without any treatment. The result of the study showed that those that gained higher profitable weight in treatment plots were the post – treatment.

In this study the effect of foliar application of salicylic acid on the chlorophyll content, antioxidant enzymes activity, and the content of solute protein and proline were investigated in two canola varieties (Brassica napus L., cv ‘RGS’ and ‘Licord’) leaves during 0, 24, and 48 hours after salicylic acid treatment. The results showed that the content of total chlorophyll was decreased in ‘RGS’ cultivar during the experiment and this process was related with increasing of salicylic acid concentration. The activity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and also lipid peroxidation were increased significantly after 48 hours compared with the first day. The results of catalase activity showed that, this trait was decreased 24 hours after salicylic acid treatment and this decrease was related with salicylic concentration. The content of protein in both cultivars slightly changed and plants treated with salicylic acid had more protein content, by contrast proline was greatly affected by salicylic acid treatment and its content was the highest 24 hours after treatment. According to the present findings the application of salicylic acid has useful effects on the biochemical traits of Brassica napus cultivars. Therefore it may be effective for the improvement of plant growth in cold regions.

Contamination of soil and water with metals and metalloids is one of the most serious problems worldwide due to a lack of a healthy diet and food scarcity. Moreover, the cultivation of oilseed crops such as rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) with tannery wastewater could contain a large amount of toxic heavy metals [e.g., chromium (Cr)], which ultimately reduce its yield and directly influence oilseed quality. To overcome Cr toxicity in B. napus, a pot experiment was conducted to enhance plant growth and biomass by using newly introduced role of micronutrient-amino chelates [Zinc-lysine (Zn-lys)], which was irrigated with different levels [0% (control), 33%, 66%, and 100%] of tannery wastewater. According to the results of present findings, very high content of Cr in the wastewater directly affected plant growth and composition as well as gas exchange parameters, while boosting up the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induced oxidative damage in the roots and leaves of B. napus. However, activities of antioxidants initially increased (33% of wastewater), but further addition of tannery wastewater in the soil caused a decrease in antioxidant enzymes, which also manifested by Zn content, while the conscious addition of wastewater significantly increased Cr content in the roots and shoots of B. napus. To reduce Cr toxicity in B. napus plants, exogenous supplementation of Zn-lys (10 mg/L) plays an effective role in increasing morpho-physiological attributes of B. napus and also reduces the oxidative stress in the roots and leaves of the oilseed crop (B. napus). Enhancement in different growth attributes was directly linked with increased in antioxidative enzymes while decreased uptake and accumulation of Cr content in B. napus when cultivated in wastewater with the application of Zn-lys. Zn-lys, therefore, plays a protective role in reducing the Cr toxicity of B. napus through an increase in plant growth and lowering of Cr uptake in various plant organs. However, further studies at field levels are required to explore the mechanisms of Zn–lys mediated reduction of Cr and possibly other heavy metal toxicity in plants.
