Over the last 15 years, the rapid development of information and communication technologies (ICT) has facilitated a revolution in how we use language. Online environments have facilitated creative and variable spelling using code hybridization and stylistic use of mechanical conventions such as punctuation and capitalization, lexical coinages, new genres and conversational shapes, new social networks, and digital identities. The traditional four-skills paradigm of text-based grammar study framing English-language teaching curricula no longer adequately describes language and literacies in the Information Era. This article examines changing language conventions in English used in online environments, theorizing directions for new and variable language conventions. The article makes the case that understanding relative language standards in digital environments is essential for teaching and testing appropriate and contemporary English language literacies.

The development of modern society in the world takes place in the era of rapid development of information technologies in all fields of human activity, including education. Therefore, one of the main ways of solving the problem of education modernization is the introduction of information technologies and combination with traditional educational means. The issue of ensuring the high level of information and communication technologies in the educational process becomes more urgent every year. The experience of teachers of higher education institutions shows the effectivenes of information and communication technologies integration in teaching English. Information and communication technologies enable students to be involved in the learning process, increase students’ motivation and their interest in learning English. The use of information and communication technologies in the educational process gives the possibility to reduce the time for mastering the material at the expense of clarity and to check students’ knowledge in the interactive form. The article deals with the use of modern information and communication technologies in the process of teaching English in higher education. Aspects of information and communication technologies in the process of learning a foreign language are theoretically grounded. The experience of information and communication technologies implementation in the educational process of higher educational institutions is analyzed and the main advantages and disadvantages of their application are characterized. The experience of using Quizlet (an application that helps in learning new words, phrases, terms faster and more effectively) in teaching English at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute of Igor Sikorsky” was analized in the context of the analysis of information technologies in higher educational establishments of Ukraine.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in English language teaching have become effective tools to boost meaningful learning. In an EFL environment, the need to apply a model to incorporate web tools and free apps in the classroom takes prominence for teachers at the university level. The present study is an attempt at determining the effectiveness of the implementation of the Read-Reflect-Display and Do (R2D2) model by Bonk and Zhang (2006) through the design and application of a booklet of activities used by a group of 14 students of the Associate’s program in English and 17 students of the Bachelor’s degree in English Teaching at Universidad Nacional, Brunca Branch. Due to its nature, this research encompasses a case study with a descriptive scope. The design and implementation will be analyzed through an empirical predictive and retrospective evaluation considering the administration of a teacher and a student questionnaire and a focus group. The instruments were administered to 31 students and 7 teachers. The results of the analysis led to conclude that the model implemented in a booklet of activities can be effective to integrate ICTs and innovate in both the techniques used to incorporate technology and the pedagogical materials EFL teachers bring to the classroom only if teachers open up to new ideas and keep abreast of the constant technological changes that education and society demand.

Following the advance of digital technologies, the State Border Guard College of Latvia is constantly looking after innovations in ICT and education contexts. Since 2011 Specialized English language e-learning course for border guards is being implemented, other professional e-learning courses are being systematically introduced, currently 8 specialised qualification courses are available, on average 300 border guards graduate e-learning courses annually. Having in mind the continuous advancement of ICT in education contexts as well as the strategic approach of the State Border Guard College to continue the development of e-learning systems author of this article intends to describe the system of e-learning used in border guards’ training, explore and summarize the theory and best practices on using ICT in pedagogical context, educators’ roles in development and implementation of e-learning courses.

With digital communications and technological media becoming an integral part of the new professional workplace and everyday lives of the younger generation (especially in post-industrial societies), comes the clarion call for educators to develop a more complex understanding of language and literacy and how to go about designing pedagogies that equip students with 21st Century skills. This chapter presents two case studies that examine the complex interaction of teachers, students, writing pedagogies, language curriculum and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The study explored students’ experiences of using ICT in second language writing and the impact of ICT on writing pedagogy and the curriculum, producing in-depth descriptions and interpretations to answer a set of focused research questions.

Owing to the rapid development of information and communication technologies, such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and computer vision, in recent years, the concept of smart sports has been proposed. A pitch fatigue detection method that includes acquisition, analysis, quantification, aggregation, learning, and public layers for adaptive baseball learning is proposed herein. The learning determines the fatigue index of the pitcher based on the angle of the pitcher's elbow and back as the number of pitches increases. The coach uses this auxiliary information to avoid baseball injuries during baseball learning. Results show a test accuracy rate of 89.1%, indicating that the proposed method effectively provides reference information for adaptive baseball learning.

XXI century emphasized humanity to embrace the digital era after a reality of Third and Fourth Industrial Revolutions, nowadays dictating new terms of social networking. It is expected that information and communication technologies integrated with value-based medicine will significantly impact healthcare delivery to tremendous number of patients with socially important noncommunicable diseases. Cardiovascular illnesses comprise the greatest part of such pathologies. Hypertension (HTN) being the most prevalent cardiovascular disease is also the key modifiable cardiovascular risk factor yet seems to be an attractive target for both value-based concept and telehealth interventions. Present review addresses up-to-date science on telehealth, sets out the main well-known, but yet unsolved challenges in management of HTN along with the new approaches involving telemedicine programs, digital health outlooks. The main barriers of telehealth implementation are also considered along with the possible solutions.
