Based on the popularity of mobile information and the important role of mobile information in marketing, the use of mobile information to publish travel information and travel advertisements has become a new choice for operators, which can also attract sports and fitness people. This article studies the influence of official microblog of tourist destination on tourists’ choice of tourist destination. In this study, five factors, such as the usefulness of official microblog, are taken as independent variables, tourist destination selection as dependent variables, and the mediating role of use attitude is taken into account. A research model is established to explore the impact of these variables on tourist destination selection. The results show that usefulness, ease of use, interactivity, and entertainment have direct effects on tourists’ willingness to choose tourist destinations; ease of use and interactivity can indirectly affect tourists’ choice of tourist destinations using attitudes; perceived trust needs to have a positive effect on tourists’ willingness to choose tourist destinations using attitudes.

Tourism can make a significant contribution to the development of South Africa by providing employment, contributing to foreign exchange earnings and by increasing economic activity. The aim of this study was to establish current perceptions, attitudes and orientations of foreign tourists towards post-apartheid South Africa as a tourist destination. A sample of 250 tourists were interviewed at London's Heathrow Airport. The results show that the South African tourism industry is faced with a multidimensional problem. It is a good example of a perilous or high risk product. However, with sound market segmentation and targeting, and proper planning, South Africa can have a vibrant and sustainable tourism industry. A unique way of segmenting tourist markets is presented. Specific recommendations are discussed in detail, which could aid all those involved in marketing a high risk product.

This chapter focuses on market segmentation from a tourism perspective and highlights the importance of taking tourist motivation into account when targeting new markets. It examines different perspectives of stakeholders in order to capture the many factors that affect market segmentation, its relative importance, and the way in which market segmentation affects a tourist destination's ability to successfully attract and retain a new tourism source market. This should help identify the impacts of market segmentation on the success of a tourist destination such as Barbados to attract a new tourist market. The chapter seeks to shed light on how market segmentation fits with the country's commitment to tourism, and in turn how this commitment matches readiness of Barbados's tourism sector to receive Brazilian tourists as a new source market.

No two tourists are the same. This insight stands at the core of market segmentation. Pursuing a segmentation strategy as a tourist destination or a tourism business means catering to the specific needs of certain types of tourists (market segments), rather than attempting to satisfy the needs of the entire tourist market by effectively targeting the average tourist. But which market segments should a tourist destination or business target? Market segmentation analysis helps answer this question. Market segmentation analysis is “the process of grouping consumers into naturally existing or artificially created segments of consumers who share similar product preferences or characteristics” (Dolnicar, Grün & Leisch, 2018, p. 11).

Macau, the world’s largest casino hub with the largest gambling revenues, has received increasing attention as a research focus. Macau attracts more and more Chinese outbound tourists each year due to its gambling industry monopoly in Greater China. Macau is positioning itself as a ‘world center of tourism and leisure’ and has set out plans to become a broader-based tourist destination with economic diversification. Thus, an understanding of people’s varied motivations plays an important role in the current status of an environment with a moderate diversification of economic development. The objective of this study is to classify the outbound mainland Chinese tourists in Macau into more homogeneous subgroups on the basis of their travel motivations. Thirteen motivation items are extracted into four factors (namely knowledge and culture, relaxation, entertainment and gambling, and prestige) through exploratory factor analysis. Three distinct market segments are identified—freedom seekers, multi-purpose seekers, and fun and special interest in gambling seekers—based on a cluster analysis using k-means methodology. This study also presents the socio-demographic and trip characteristic differences among these three segments.

The Cenote Jennifer is an important and unique aquatic sinkhole in Cayo Coco (Jardines del Rey Tourist Destination) that has brackish to saline water. Two samplings were made in 1998 and 2009, and 4 metabolism community experiments in 2009. Some limnological parameters were measured in both samplings (temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen major ions, hydrogen sulfide, nutrients and others). Community metabolism was measured through incubated oxygen concentration in clear and dark oxygen bottles. Results showed that the sinkhole limnology depends on rainfall and light incidence year, with some stratification episodes, due to halocline or oxycline presence, rather than thermocline. The sinkhole water was oligotrophic (total nitrogen of 41.5 ± 22.2 μmol l−1 and total phosphorus of 0.3 ± 0.2 μmol l−1) and with low productivity (gross primary productivity of 63.0 mg C m−2 d−1). Anoxia and hypoxia were present at the bottom with higher levels of hydrogen sulfide, lower pH and restricted influence of the adjacent sea (2 km away). To protect the Cenote Jennifer, tourist exploitation should be avoided and more resources to ecological and morphological studies should be allocated, and eventually use this aquatic system only for specialized diving. For conservation purposes, illegal garbage disposal in the surrounding forest should end.
