Warburgia ugandensis Sprague is one of the medicinal plants traditionally used to treat a number of diseases like asthma, cough, diarrhea, common cold, stomachache and toothache in Ethiopia. However, there is still insufficient information on the isolation and evaluation of bioactive compounds from this plant species. Extraction, purification and isolation of the stem bark of this plant by dichloromethane and chloroform as solvents afforded two sesquiterpenes; namely, WU-1 (ugandensidial) and WU-2 (cinnamolide-3β-acetate) respectively. The structural elucidations of these bioactive compounds were accomplished by using a variety of spectroscopic methods (IR, UV and NMR). The spectroscopic results compared with the reported data in the literature.

The genus Nocardiopsis is well known to produce secondary metabolites especially antibacterial bioactive compound. Isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds producing novel isolates from unusual habitats are crucial. The present study was aimed to explore Didwana dry salt lake of Rajasthan state in India for the isolation and characterization of actinomycetes. The isolated actinomycetes isolates were characterized based on culture characteristics, biochemical tests and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that all the five isolates inhabiting soil of the said dry salt lake of Didwana, Rajasthan belonged to four species of Nocardiopsis viz., N. synnemataformans, N. potens, N. prasina and N. dassonvillei subsp. albirubida. The molecular identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequences was found accurate and robust. The phylogram generated through multiple sequence alignment of all the test isolates of Nocardiopsis revealed that the isolates aroused from a single branch and validated monophyletic association. The present study is the first report of exploring Nocardiopsis isolates from the dry salt lake. These characterized Nocardiopsis isolates isolated from Didwana dry salt lake habitat are novel stains and can be of significance in the detection and utilization of novel bioactive compounds.

Background: Seeds of Mung bean (Vignaradiata (L.)R.Wilczek)is usually identified as a 'Green pearl' of Asia. It has been extensively used as a traditional food in the whole world. This is the best source of protein, minerals, and vitamins. Methods: Literature has been collected through SciFinder, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Pubmed, and a library. This review shares updated information on the botany, distribution, health benefits, phytochemistry and pharmacology of Mung bean seeds. Result: As per the literature survey, Its found that Mung seeds (Vigna radiata (L.) R.Wilczek) has a pharmacological activity such as anticancer, antihyperlipidemic, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, anti-microbial, antioxidant, treatment of alcoholism, reducing obesity, increasing muscular strength ,rheumatism, piles, liver, and neuro- diseases. This curative potential provides various beneficial outcomes in the field of research and increasing scientific interest in the identification of bioactive compounds responsible for various pharmacological activities. It is used in industries like pharmaceutical, food, and Cosmetics. Conclusion: Existing literature authenticates the potential benefits of Mung bean seeds (Vigna radiata (L.) R.Wilczek) from nutritional as well as medicinal perspective. This food grain need to be explored for identification, isolation, and characterization of a bioactive compounds against varied ailments.

Phytochemical study of two medicinal plants from Ecuador, Tagetes terniflora Kunth, and Croton rivinifolius Kunth, led to the isolation and characterization of the major constituents present in the organic extracts obtained from these plants: 5-(4-acetoxy-1-butynil)-2,2’-bi-thiophene (1), 5-methyl-2,2’:5’,2”- terthiophene (2), patuletin (3) from Tagetes terniflora, and isocorydine (4), sweroside (5), tiliroside (6) from Croton rivinifolius. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis including two-dimensional NMR methods, MS, and comparison with published spectral data. They are recognized as secondary metabolites that represent the chemotaxonomy of Tagetes and Croton genera and could be responsible for the recognized medicinal properties attributed to these species. This paper deals with the first report that shows the presence of these compounds in these plants.
