AbstractThe construction of knowledge , the duty of care and the teachings of St. John BoscoThe article is based on research conducted in the teaching process practiced in contemporary schooling, in light of the teachings practiced in the school inspired by Don Bosco and the way that legal knowledge is constructed. It contextualizes the "contemporary education" and the importance of teaching Don Bosco’s philosophy, using fundamental elements of his philosophy, which arouse educational proposals in favor of individual, social and collective rights. The inspiration of contemporary education is addressed in discussions involving ethical and environmental issues related to the needs and interests of Man, in the spheres of social rights and interests and diffuse and collective rights. It deals with interests and needs in the context of fundamental and human rights, from the Salesian educational aspect, awakens current dialogue between education, school, teaching, and the posture of the teacher and the student in the face of contemporary social and educational problems, challenging the reconquest of human relations in educational quality, using the teachings of St. John Bosco. Research shows that the quality of education is realized by adopting active educational stance supportive of conduct of affection for people and among people who participate in the teaching-learning relationship in the pursuit of practical solidarity and unconditional respect for the human dignity, returning therefore to the values of the human essence. It also shows that the rescue of the duty of care (of everything and everyone) confirms the return to the essential human values such as love and compassion, which among others promote altruistic impulse of tenderness between Men who are lost constantly in the tangle of contemporary social jungle. Revisor do inglês: Prof. Tadeu GiattiRevisor do espanhol: Prof. Lilian de Souza

Palabras claves: enseñanza superior, bibliotecología, educación a distancia, bibliotecología, formación profesional.AbstractThe major of Librarianship through distance learning education has gained recognition during the last years in Costa Rica. This modality aids people from different regions of the country to continue their studies in order to accomplish an academic diploma. This work aims to describe the function of assessment within the teaching-learning process in the construction of knowledge specifically in the area of data management. For this purpose, tutorials will be regarded as didactic resources to complement two hybrid courses of the major of Librarianship at Universidad Estatal a Distancia. The use of virtual platforms to carry out assessment procedures in distance learning education improves quality of learning and makes the process more dynamic for the students. Formative assessment is a characteristic of hybrid courses since it gives the tutors and course coordinator valuable data about the students´ population. This information is used to analyze if the course is providing the students with the necessary skills they need, or if the course has to be modified. Keywords: higher education, librarianship, distances learning education, professional development.

Abstract: When knowledge is transmitted only in a unidirectional way targeted students tend not to fully interact and are consequently and as listeners just partially involved, thus generating lack of interest in learning. Starting from this premise, we developed a didactic game with the Teaching Initiation Scholarship Institutional Program (PIBID) designed to corroborate the quality of education in biology. Th e game deals with the theme ‘’Ecological Relations’’, where each student takes part in the construction of knowledge together with the classroom teacher. Th e game ‘’Passa ou Repassa da Biologia” was made and tested in a public school in the south of Sao Paulo city (Sao Paulo State, Brazil), where 130 students participated in three stages of didactic intervention (Pre-Test, Game and Post-Test). Th e use of the game gave students a better understanding of the content of ecological relations and proved to be a tool that contributes positively to the process of teaching and learning. Keywords: Ecological Relations; Educational Game; Teaching Learning.

Abstract Background The educational beliefs of medical educators influence their teaching practices. Insight into these beliefs is important for medical schools to improve the quality of education they provide students and to guide faculty development. Several studies in the field of higher education have explored the educational beliefs of educators, resulting in classifications that provide a structural basis for diverse beliefs. However, few classification studies have been conducted in the field of medical education. We propose a framework that describes faculty beliefs about teaching, learning, and knowledge which is specifically adapted to the medical education context. The proposed framework describes a matrix in which educational beliefs are organised two dimensionally into belief orientations and belief dimensions. The belief orientations range from teaching-centred to learning-centred; the belief dimensions represent qualitatively distinct aspects of beliefs, such as ‘desired learning outcomes’ and ‘students’ motivation’. Methods We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 26 faculty members, all of whom were deeply involved in teaching, from two prominent medical schools. We used the original framework of Samuelowicz and Bain as a starting point for context-specific adaptation. The qualitative analysis consisted of relating relevant interview fragments to the Samuelowicz and Bain framework, while remaining open to potentially new beliefs identified during the interviews. A range of strategies were employed to ensure the quality of the results. Results We identified a new belief dimension and adapted or refined other dimensions to apply in the context of medical education. The belief orientations that have counterparts in the original Samuelowicz and Bain framework are described more precisely in the new framework. The new framework sharpens the boundary between teaching-centred and learning-centred belief orientations. Conclusions Our findings confirm the relevance of the structure of the original Samuelowicz and Bain beliefs framework. However, multiple adaptations and refinements were necessary to align the framework to the context of medical education. The refined belief dimensions and belief orientations enable a comprehensive description of the educational beliefs of medical educators. With these adaptations, the new framework provides a contemporary instrument to improve medical education and potentially assist in faculty development of medical educators.

One third of food produced globally is wasted. Disposal of this waste is costly and is an example of poor resource management in the face of elevated environmental concerns and increasing food demand. Providing this waste as feedstock for black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) has the potential for bio-conversion and valorisation by production of useful feed materials and fertilisers. We raised BSFL under optimal conditions (28 °C and 70% relative humidity) on seven UK pre-consumer food waste-stream materials: fish trimmings, sugar-beet pulp, bakery waste, fruit and vegetable waste, cheese waste, fish feed waste and brewer’s grains and yeast. The nutritional quality of the resulting BSFL meals and frass fertiliser were then analysed. In all cases, the volume of waste was reduced (37–79%) and meals containing high quality protein and lipid sources (44.1 ± 4.57% and 35.4 ± 4.12%, respectively) and frass with an NPK of 4.9-2.6-1.7 were produced. This shows the potential value of BSFL as a bio-convertor for the effective management of food waste.

The use of videoconferencing in psychotherapy remains largely unexplored. Videoconferencing compromises the range and quality of interactional information and thus might be expected to affect the working alliance (WA) between client and therapist, and consequently the process and outcome of therapy. A single case study exploring the effect of videoconferencing on the development of the WA in the psychological treatment of a female–male transsexual is described. The self-rated Working Alliance Inventory (WAI) was used to measure client and therapist perceptions of the WA after each session over 10 sessions of eclectic therapy conducted over a videolink. The serial WAI measurements charting the development of the WA in 4 cases of 10-session, face-to-face therapy by Horvath and Marx1 were used as a quasi-control. Therapist and client impressions of teletherapy are described. WAI scores were essentially similar to the face-to-face control group except for lower client-rated bond subscale scores. It is suggested that client personality factors accounted for this difference and that videoconferencing did not impair the development of an adequate working alliance or successful therapeutic outcome.

AbstractCOVID-19 has severely affected the world since December 2020. Because of its sudden onset and highly contagious nature, the world has responded in a “crisis management” manner. With effective vaccines almost available, it is appropriate at this time to have some reflections about COVID-19 in relation to the quality of life issues. In this paper, we highlight twelve issues for reflection, which can help us better prepared for future pandemics. These include: digital divide, health inequality, gender inequality, economic disadvantage, family well-being, impact on holistic well-being, economic development versus saving lives, consumption versus environmental protection, individual rights versus collective rights, international collaboration versus conflict, prevention of negative well-being, and promotion of positive well-being.

Although Europa 51 (1952) was the most commercially successful of the films Roberto Rossellini made with the Hollywood star, Ingrid Bergman, the reception by the Italian press was largely negative. Many critics focussed on what they saw to be the ‘unreal’ or abstract quality of the films portrayal of the postwar urban milieu and on the Bergman character‘s isolation from the social world. This article looks at how certain structures of seeing that are associated in the classical style with the woman as star or spectacle - e.g., the repetitious return to her fixed image, the resistance to pulling back from the figure of the woman in order to situate her within a determinate location and set of relationships between characters and objects - are no longer restricted to her image but in fact bleed into or “contaminate” the depiction of the world she inhabits. In other words, whereas the compulsive return to the fixed image of the woman tends to be contained or neutralised by the narrative economy and editing patterns (ordered by sexual difference) of the classical style, in Rossellini‘s work this ‘insistent’ even aberrant framing in relation to the woman becomes a part of the (female) characters and the cameras vision of the ‘pathology’ of the urban landscape in the aftermath of the war.
