AbstractMultiple trait introgression is the process by which multiple desirable traits are converted from a donor to a recipient cultivar through backcrossing and selfing. The goal of this procedure is to recover all the attributes of the recipient cultivar, with the addition of the specified desirable traits. A crucial step in this process is the selection of parents to form new crosses. In this study, we propose a new selection approach that estimates the genetic distribution of the progeny of backcrosses after multiple generations using information of recombination events. Our objective is to select the most promising individuals for further backcrossing or selfing. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a case study has been conducted using maize data where our method is compared with state-of-the-art approaches. Simulation results suggest that the proposed method, look-ahead Monte Carlo, achieves higher probability of success than existing approaches. Our proposed selection method can assist breeders to efficiently design trait introgression projects.

Currently Mergan 4-way intersection is one of intersection that have most traffic dense in Malang City, East Java - Indonesia. This research implement simulation method in order to give several solution option to manage the traffic queue in Mergan 4-way intersection. Simulation method is conducted with several phase, from problem identification up to verification and validation also scenario simulation. Arena Simulation software v.14 is chosen as the tool to modeling the traffic queue line. The research outcome give several solution through Traffic Light 2 simulation scenario. With this simulation scenario, the traffic flow system simulation can be run with fewer queues of vehicles.

Previous laboratory studies have explored the importance of participants adopting an immersed or distanced perspective in the analysis of their experiences. These studies concluded that distancing allows analyzing emotions in a healthier way and immersion leads to higher vulnerability. However, in psychotherapy, the relationship between these perspectives and clinical change has been less investigated. The present study aims to contribute to understanding how these variables evolve during psychotherapy and also to explore the therapist’s contributions to this process. This study analyzes a good-outcome case of emotion-focused therapy for depression through two observational measures of psychotherapy process: the measure of immersed and distanced speech – which identifies client’s adoption of an immersed or distanced stance when talking about their problems – and the helping skills system – which identifies therapist’s interventions focused on exploration, insight or action. Results showed a decrease of immersed speech and an increase of distanced speech along the process, with a higher frequency of exploration skills preceding both types of client’s speech. Finally, the evolution of therapist’s and client’s speech showed a reasonable flexibility of therapeutic dialogue throughout the sessions, in particular due to the evolution of client variables (evidencing a higher diversity of behaviors).

Abstract Flood pulses are closely related to river ecosystem health. Reservoirs bring many benefits to flood control, power generation, shipping etc., but their attenuation effects on runoff flood pulses should not be ignored. Ecological operation can effectively reduce some negative ecological impacts brought by the reservoir. However, the inability to quantitatively assess ecological effects hinders the promotion of ecological operation in reservoir management. To solve this problem, we proposed 11 flood pulse indicators (FPI), a random simulation method and an ecology-economy coupling model in this study. In addition, we used four major Chinese carps as indicator species and the Three Gorges Reservoir as a case study to test the role of flood pulses in improving the ecological operation effects of the reservoir from the fish protection perspective. The results show that: (1) FPI can be controlled by the reservoir and reflect the flood pulse characteristics of runoff. (2) Random simulation method guides managers to optimize the discharge and formulate eco-friendly operation schemes. (3) Ecology-economy coupling model helps managers analyze the relationship between ecological operation effects and economic benefits. A comprehensive assessment can improve the acceptance of ecological operation, which is conducive to the sustainable development of river ecosystem.

The purpose of the study is to solve the problems existing in entrepreneurship education and management under computer technology. The teaching content of entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities is proposed. Since entrepreneurship education is practical, the auxiliary mechanism of entrepreneurship education also needs to be highly integrated with entrepreneurship practice. First, the network entrepreneurship teaching and management system is constructed, and students’ entrepreneurial creativity, communication ability, leadership ability, and qualities are taken as the research object. Second, the traditional teaching method, case study method, and scene simulation method are used to analyze and discuss the influence of the entrepreneurial teaching mode, entrepreneurial experience, and entrepreneurial ability on students’ entrepreneurial psychology. Finally, the questionnaire survey is used to conduct the relative sample t-test (Student’s t-test), and the influence of three teaching methods on students’ learning effects is analyzed. The influence of the three teaching methods on students’ entrepreneurial psychological states is further analyzed by the statistical method. The experimental results show that the test result of the scene simulation method and the traditional teaching method is 0.584, the test result of the scene simulation method and the case study method is 0.842, and the test result of the case study method and the traditional teaching method is 0.595. This shows that the scene simulation method has a significant impact on students’ entrepreneurial psychology and their entrepreneurial ability. In addition, students’ cognition of professional status significantly affects their entrepreneurial psychology and attitudes, and the correlation coefficient is 0.576. Therefore, it is suggested that colleges and universities should adopt the scene simulation method to improve the teaching quality of entrepreneurship education and strengthen students’ cognition of professional status and their entrepreneurial practice.

This research investigates how contingency is currently calculated in project budgets within the building industry. This is an important aspect to consider as a large proportion of construction projects are significantly over-budget. The study presents three non-simulation methods and one simulation method for calculating cost contingency following the results of a forthcoming journal paper. These methods are applied against a case study project in attempt to highlight the most reliable method, and to create a methodology that will be useful to the industry. This paper identifies that the traditional fixed percentage approach is not sufficient and suggests that this could be one of the main reasons why construction projects are over budget. While it is unclear which method is the most reliable, this study provides a focus for future research into reliability and utilisation of contingency methods in the building industry. The research demonstrates that current practice needs to change to reduce the large number of construction projects that run over budget.

Investments in hydropower pumped storage projects (PSP) are subjected to a high degree of uncertainty. In addition to normal uncertainties in hydropower schemes, the profit of a pumped storage scheme is dependent on the margin between power prices for buying and selling, which is difficult to predict without a power purchase agreement (PPA). A PSP without a PPA and without known construction costs requires quantification of the uncertainties in order to make qualified decisions before investing in such projects. This article demonstrates the advantages of using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations as a tool in the economic analysis of PSPs. The method has been tested on a case study, namely the Tamakoshi-3 Hydropower Project (HPP) in Nepal. The MC method is used to calculate the probability distribution of the net present value of installing reversible units in the Tamakoshi-3 HPP. The calculations show that PSPs may be profitable in Nepal, given a beneficial development of the power market. The MC method is considered to be a useful tool for economic analysis of PSPs. In this case study of installing reversible units in the Tamakoshi-3 HPP, there are many uncertainties, which the MC simulation method is able to quantify.
