This research was conducted in the mangrove forest of Popongan beach at Baluran National Park, East Java. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between mangrove density and Portunidae diversity in mangrove forest at Popongan beach. Line transect method was used in this research. There are three transects consist of 17 plots, each plot sized 20m x 20m. The data analysis were done by using Person correlation and linear regression R Program. The results showed p-value 0,003, it means there is relationship between Portunidae diversity and the mangrove density. The temperature and tide showed p-value < 0,005, that means the abiotic factors affect Portunidae diversity in mangrove. The Portunidae diversity at mangrove forest of Popongan beach is relatively low (H’value 0,152). There were five species was found, there were Charybdis (Charybdis) miles, Podhopthalmus vigil, Portunuspelagicus,Scyllaserrata,and Thalamita crenata. The dominant species in this mangrove forest is Thalamita crenata. The composition of mangrove forest vegetation were Rhizophora apiculata, Ceriops tagal, Lumnitzera racemosa, Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Pemphis acidula, dan Xylocarpus  moluccensis. The dominant vegetation in this mangrove forest is Rhizophora apiculata.

This research was conducted to determine the condition of the mangrove ecosystem based on its canopy cover and to determine the types of mollusks (Bivalves and Gastropods) associated with the Benoa Bay mangrove ecosystem. Hemispherical photography is a method for observing mangrove canopy cover and line transect method for mollusks. The composition of mangrove species found in the research location were five species, namely Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, and Avicennia marina. The percentage of mangrove canopy cover in the Benoa Bay mangrove ecosystem is in a good category (average = 76.59%). There are eight types of mollusks found in the research location. There are two types of bivalves (Polymesoda bengalensis and Gafrarium pectinatum) and six types of gastropods (Nerita balteata, Nerita picea, Neritina turrita, Pila ampullacea, Cassidula aurisfelis, and Littoraria melanostoma). The relationship between the percentage of mangrove canopy cover and abundance of mollusks in the Benoa Bay mangrove ecosystem is very strong (r) of 0.920. The higher the percentage value of mangrove canopy cover, the higher the mollusks abundance.

Mangrove forests are unique ecosystems that have ecological, biological and socio-economic functions. The function of mangrove forests on the environment is very important especially in the coastal and oceanic regions. Mangrove forests providers of wood, leaves as raw material for medicines, and natural dye. This study aims to inventory the diversity of species of mangrove vegetation in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency. The benefits of this study are to provide the data on mangrove forest vegetation as basic data for local government and related agencies in efforts to protect and preserve mangrove forests in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency. Inventory the tree in mangrove forest used a line with measured 200 meters. There are 6 lines and the distance between the lines as far as 100 meters. The lines of observation are placed by purposive sampling. The results of research found 11 types of species and consisted of 6 genera. The genera are Avicennia, Bruguiera, Ceriops, Rhizophora, Soneratia and Xylocarpus. The species found were Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Bruguiera cylindrica, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Bruguiera parviflora, Ceriops decandra, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia caseolaris, Xylocarpus mollucensis. Diversity of mangrove species in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency was high and should be maintained for conservation and ecotourism area. The Kutai National Park (KNP) which is located in East Kutai Regency on East Kalimantan Province is endowed with numerous pristine of mangrove forest. However, related information to the species composition and diversity of KNP mangrove is still scanty. Twenty-one of mangrove species were recorded using the quadratic transects survey method (total plot area of 1.7 ha). Main species of mangrove communities were Avicennia lanata, A. marina, Bruguiera gymnorrhysa, B sexangular, Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata and Sonneratia Alba. Mangrove density was recorded reached as 1,699 trees ha-1, saplings of 4,395 ha-1 and seedlings 25,348 ha-1. Significant tree density was found in Pandan Bay Estuary. While in the Lombok Bay and the Kaba Bay significant for sapling and seedling categories. Importance value index of mangrove species in the three study locations for three growth categories (tree, sapling and seedling) showed significant differences (p-value> α0.05). Mangrove stand at three study locations has almost the same characteristics. The species diversity and evenness index has shown the same distribution pattern. The findings of this study suggest that KNP mangrove forest stand is not heavily damaged even though there is a lot of human activity. This mangrove could be managed and conserved for multi-sectoral purposes such as ecotourism, research, biodiversity and education rather than solely as a Nature Conservation Area.

Langsa City is mostly in the form of land and coastal areas, especially the Kuala Langsa area which has the potential to be developed into an ecotourism development area because the mangrove ecosystem is still natural and preserved. This study aims to determine the level of land suitability for the development of mangrove forest ecotourism in Kuala Langsa. Primary data in the form of mangrove density, mangrove thickness, types of mangroves, tides, and biota objects were obtained through observation at 6 observation locations using Purposive sampling and Line transect point methods, while secondary data included geographical conditions, and tidal data obtained through literature studies. Vegetation data were analyzed by calculating plant species density and tourism suitability analyzed using tourism suitability index (IKW). Mangrove species found at the study site included, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia caseolaris and Xylocarpus granatum. The results showed that the IKW value of 60% included in the S2 category (as appropriate). The limiting factor is the density of mangroves which only have a value of 8 with the S3 conformity category (as conditional). With the limiting factor is the density of mangroves which only have a value of 4 with the suitability category S3 (not suitable). As for suggestions that can be given to the manager of Kuala Langsa mangrove forest Ecotourism so that the existence of Ecotourism can be sustainable is the need for Pentahelix Synergy in the management of the ecotourism.

Abstract. In mangrove forests, soil salinity is one of the most significant environmental factors determining mangrove forest distribution and productivity as it limits plant water uptake and carbon gain. However, salinity control on mangrove productivity through plant hydraulics has not been investigated by existing mangrove models. Thus, we present a new individual-based model linked with plant hydraulics to incorporate physiological characterization of mangrove growth under salt stress. Plant hydraulics was associated with mangroves nutrient uptake and biomass allocation apart from water flux and carbon gain. The developed model was performed for two-coexisting species of Rhizophora stylosa and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza in a subtropical mangrove forest in Japan. The model predicted that the productivity of both species was affected by soil salinity through downregulation of stomatal conductance, while B. gymnorrhiza trees grow faster and suppress the growth of R. stylosa trees by shading that resulted in a B. gymnorrhiza-dominated forest under low soil salinity conditions (< 28 ‰). Alternatively, the increase in soil salinity significantly reduced the productivity of B. gymnorrhiza compared to R. stylosa, leading to an increase in biomass of R. stylosa despite the enhanced salt stress (> 30 ‰). These predicted patterns in forest structures across soil salinity gradient remarkably agreed with field data, highlighting the control of salinity on productivity and tree competition as factors that shape the mangrove forest structures. The model reproducibility of forest structures was also supported by the predicted self-thinning processes, which likewise agreed with field data. In addition, the mangroves morphological adjustment to increasing soil salinity – by decreasing transpiration and increasing hydraulic conductance – was reasonably predicted. Aside from the soil salinity, seasonal dynamics in atmospheric variables (solar radiation and temperature) was highlighted as factors influencing mangrove productivity in a subtropical region. The physiological principle-based improved model has the potential to be extended to other mangrove forests in various environmental settings, thus contributing to a better understanding of mangrove dynamics under future global climate change.

Kawasan hutan mangrove di Jawa Timur terdapat di sepanjang pantai utara mulai Kabupaten Tuban sampai dengan Kabupaten Situbondo seluas sekitar 19.916 hektar (Perum Perhutani, 1994). Keberadaan hutan mangrove tersebut kini semakin memprihatinkan, dimana penyusutan hutan mangrove di Kabupaten Probolinggo mencapai 580 hektar pada tahun 2001 (Kompas, 2001), dan 229,5 hektar di Kabupaten Situbondo (Pemerintah Kabupaten Situbondo, 2005). Dengan laju penurunan hutan mangrove yang demikian cepat, maka diperkirakan hutan mangrove akan lenyap pada tahun 2010 (Ramono, 2003). Kegiatan rehabilitasi hutan mangrove yang dilaksanakan sampai saat ini hanya terbatas pada penanaman pohon-pohon mangrove yang rusak karena penebangan, padahal keberhasilan upaya rehabilitasi juga sangat dipengaruhi oleh kondisi lahan, jenis mangrove, dan tata cara penanaman. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan pada 3 (tiga) lokasi di pantai utara Jawa Timur bagian timur menunjukkan bahwa, tanah-tanah didominasi oleh fraksi pasir (13,80-94,92 %), pH asam (8,06-8,94), tingkat salinitas tinggi (0,2302-2,4843 %), kapasitas tukar kation rendah (7,8837-27,2901 me/100g), dan kandungan bahan organik rendah (0,1851-2,4675 %). Sehingga jenis mangrove yang dapat direkomendasikan untuk ditanam di Kabupaten Probolinggo pada zona paling dekat dengan darat (belakang) adalah Ceriops decandra, dan Ceriops tagal, pada zona tengah antara lain Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, dan Xylocarpus mollucensis, pada zona paling dekat dengan laut (depan) adalah Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, dan Rhizophora stylosa.

Kondisi ekosistem mangrove di desa Kodiri dengan kondisi baik, karena upaya pengelolaan yang telah dilakukan masyarakat adat secara swadaya. Mangrove di desa Bonea tergolong rusak, karena tingginya tingkat pemanfaatan khususnya pengambilan kayu bakar. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur dan komposisi vegetasi mangrove di desa Bonea Kecamatan Lasalepa dan desa Kodiri Kecamatan Lohia. Parameter kerapatan relatif, penutupan relatif, penutupan relatif jenis dan Indeks Nilai Penting (INP) digunakan sebagai indikator untuk menggambarkan struktur dan komposisi vegetasi mangrove. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Juni sampai bulan Desember 2014 bertempat di pesisir desa Bonea dan desa Kodiri. Analisis data dilakukan di Laboratorium Perikanan STIP Wuna Raha. Pengamatan vegetasi mangrove menggunakan metode kombinasi garis lurus (line transect) dan berpetak sebanyak 3 (tiga) titik pengamatan pada setiap lokasi. Titik pengamatan ditentukan secara sengaja (purposive), berdasarkan keterwakilan kodisi vegetasi mangrove yang dikaji, sehingga terdapat 6 jalur dan 18 petak pengamatan pada dua lokasi. Data vegetasi mangrove dianalisis secara deskriptif-kualitatif. Hasil penelitian, ditemukan vegetasi mangrove di desa Bonea didominasi Ceriops tagal dan Rhizophora apiculata. Penutupan relatif jenis kategori rusak dan kerapatan jenis kategori jarang. Vegetasi mangrove desa Kodiri di dominasi Rhizophora apiculata, Soneratia alba, Bruguera sexangula, Rhizophora stylosa, Soneratia caseolaris, Bruguera gymnorhiza, dan Avicenia marina. Nilai penutupan relatif jenis kategori baik dan kerapatan relatif jenis kategori jarang.

Abstrak             Penelitian tentang keanekaragaman mangrove berdasarkan fungsi dan manfaat mangrove di Pulau Siau telah dilakukan untuk menganalisis keanekaragaman jenis vegetasi mangrove di Pantai Kapeta dan Pantai Tanaki, Kecamatan Siau Barat Selatan, Kabupaten Sitaro, Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. Metode garis berpetak berselang digunakan untuk memperoleh kekayaan dan kelimpahan jenis vegetasi. Garis transek diletakkan secara vertikal dari laut ke daratan sebanyak 3 jalur di tiap stasiun dengan jarak antar jalur sekitar 300 m. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Indeks keanekaragaman jenis diketahui berdasarkan Indeks Shannon - Wienner (H’). Pantai Kapeta dan Tanaki memiliki kekayaan jenis mangrove sebanyak 10 jenis dari 9 suku dan kelimpahan jenis sebesar 657 individu. Jenis mangrove yang ditemukan di Kecamatan Siau Barat Selatan yaitu Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, Nypa fruticans, Croton oblongus, Ficus,  Heritiera littoralis, Intsia bijuga, Ixora talaudensis dan Terminalia catappa. Keanekaragaman jenis mangrove di wilayah penelitian Kecamatan Siau Barat Selatan tergolong rendah dengan indeks H’ sebesar 0,775 yang lebih rendah dari 1. Keanekaragaman mangrove di Pantai Kapeta dan Tanaki juga rendah dengan indeks berturut-turut yaitu 0,654 dan 0,880.Kata Kunci: keanekaragaman mangrove, Pantai Kapeta, Pantai Tanaki, Pulau Siau. Abstract The study on the diversity of mangrove on Siau Island based on the its functions and benefits was conducted to analyze the diversity of mangrove vegetation in Kapeta and Tanaki Beach, District of South West Siau, Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi. The quadrate line transect method was used to obtain data of species richness and abundance. Three line transects were installed vertically from sea margin to land at each station.  Line spaces were 300 m. Data were analyzed descriptively. Biodiversity index of mangrove was based on  Shannon - Wienner index (H ').  Kapeta Beach and Tanaki Beach had species richness and abundance respectively i.e. 10 species of 9 familes and 657 individu. The mangrove  found in South West Siau District i.e. Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, Nypa fruticans, Croton oblongus, Ficus, Heritiera littoralis, Intsia bijuga, Ixora talaudensis and Terminalia catappa. Mangrove diversity in the study area was low (H ' index = 0.775). The diversity of mangrove in Kapeta Beach and Tanaki Beach were also low, i.e.  0.654 and 0.880 respectively.Keywords: mangrove diversity, Kapeta Beach, Tanaki Beach, Siau Island.

This research aims to determine the spesies compossition and distribution pattern of Gastropod and its relationship with abiotic factors (pH, salinity, soil texture, and organic content of the soil, and the high of tide of the eustuary area) in the Mangrove forest at Blok Beduk Segoro Anak Alas Purwo National Park. This research was conducted on February 2013. Data was taken four times using a week time interval during one month. Every observation covered eight stations, where station 1 to station 4 consist of four transects and 40 plots, while station 5 to station 8 consist of 3 transects with 42 plots and each plot was 5 m × 5 m. Gastropod observed from each plot are preserved with 70% alcohol and identified in Malakologi Laboratory, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). Results of the research reveated that the Gastropod observed consist of 19 families and 37 species, and the dominant family is Ceritidae. The Diversity index of Shanon Wiener was 0.53 (low deversity). Two available of Distribution pattern, group (Canarium labiatum, Cassidula nucleus, Cerithium coralium, Chicoreus brunneus, Cassidula vespertilionis, Cerithidea cingulata, Cerithidea quadrata, Chicoreus capucinus,Conus rattus, Conus striolatus, Ellobium aurisjudae, Littorina carinifera, Littorina scabra, Monodonta labio, Nassarius melanoides, Nassarius olivaceus, Nerita balteata, Nerita planospira, Nerita undata, Pugilina ternatana, Sphaerassiminea miniata, Telescopium telescopium, Terebralia sulcata, Thais intermedia), random (Angaria delphinus, Conus catus, Conus omaria, Cymatium moniliferum, Erronea errones, Oliva oliva, Polinices aurantius, Pollia undosa, Tectus pyramis, Trochus californicus, Turbo argyrostoma). Field surveys using unmanned aerial vehicle monitoring were conducted in combination with satellite image analysis to evaluate the characteristics of gaps inside mangrove forest vegetation in Dong Rui commune, Tien Yen district, Quang Ninh province as well as the natural regeneration inside these gaps. A total of 15 gaps was located in four survey plots totaling 22,500 m2, among which four different types of mangrove forest communities were found, being dominated by (1) Bruguiera gymnorrhiza; (2) Aegriceras corniculatum, Kandelia obovata, Rhizophora stylosa and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza; (3) Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora stylosa; and (4): Aegriceras corniculatum, Kandelia obovata, respectively. Based on observations from 2012 to 2018, changes in regenerated tree densities were similar between gaps with a poor diversity of 2–5 species resembling the composition of the surrounding canopy. In some gaps, species not found in the nearby vegetation were observed with lower densities. Thus, the regeneration and patching of the mangrove forest gaps in Dong Rui were quite uniform at a midium rate. Species composition inside gaps did not differ significantly from the surrounding magrove forest communities. However, the ecological dominance of each species varied over time, depending on several natural factors and human actitvities where gaps were formed..
