Mathematics courses are given to students from elementary school to higher education which equip them with logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative thinking skills, as well as the ability to work together. According to the Organization for Economics Cooperation and Development (OECD) year 2013, the concep of mathematical literacy in Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) supports the importance of developing strong understanding of pure mathematical concepts and the benefits involved in exploration in the abstract world of mathematics. This research produces a Mathematics strategic learning analysis of grade IX that supports high-order mathematical thinking skills (HOMT). Two (2) parts of the materials will be discussed more focused, ie (a) learning materials and (b) learning strategies. With a learning syllabus that supports the HOMT, the opportunity to increase the value of Mathematics education is greater, one of which is formulate challenging questions. Challenging Mathematical questions will meet the criteria of high-level questions (PISA has a level of questions from level 1 to level 6). HOMT supports the development of a strong understanding of pure mathematical concepts and is useful in exploration in the abstract world of mathematics. The sources of data used in the preparation of this reseach are the results of the PISA survey in 2006 and 2012 and the 2013 curriculum book sourced from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Mathematical learning needs to be given to all students starting from elementary school, so that students practice how to think in drawing conclusions and be able to express their opinions with the beliefs and honesty that comes from someone. But when learning mathematics the problem that often arises is a lack of motivation. Baroody (1993) says that reasoning is an important tool in learning mathematics to produce ideas so students can understand mathematical concepts correctly. Efforts made by teachers to improve thinking skills and motivation in learning mathematics are through the Adobe Flash CS 5.0 game which is expected to provide new and enjoyable experiences for teachers and students. In addition to more varied learning, students can be motivated to learn and enjoy what they learn.

The Trending topic in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) have become a new standard for mathematics learning. One of the objectives of the study from TIMSS and PISA is to know the students' abilities in reasoning, identifying, and understanding, and using the basic mathematics needed in daily life. Or in other words, students must have mathematical literacy. The concept of mathematical literacy is intended the ability of individuals to formulate, use, and interpret mathematics in various contexts. This includes mathematical reasoning and using mathematical concepts, procedures, facts, and equipment to describe, explain, and predict phenomena or events (OECD, 2013). Indonesia has participated in TIMSS and PISA studies several times, from the TIMSS and PISA study results, it shows that students have not been able to develop optimally about their thinking abilities in mathematics schools and are still low in ability (1) to understand complex information, (2) theory , analysis and problem solving, (3) using tools, procedures and problem solving and (4) conducting investigations. In 2014, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) stated that learning mathematics today is still too formal, lacks connection with the meaning, understanding, and application of mathematical concepts, and fails to give sufficient attention to the ability of reasoning and solving problem. These results indicate that there needs to be a change in curriculum orientation, which is not to burden students with content but prioritize the aspects of essential abilities needed by all citizens to participate in developing their country in the 21st century. Therefore it is necessary to develop a mathematics curriculum that enhances students' abilities in reasoning and problem solving in order to improve the quality of mathematics for students knowledge and skill in this global era.

Algebraic thinking skills are one of the elements emphasized in the benchmarking of PISA (Program for International Student Assessment). However, the algebraic thinking skills among students were found to be still at a very weak level. The purpose of this study was to look at the effect of the bar model method on students’ algebraic thinking skills. Pre-test and post -test were used as research instruments. The study was an experimental study conducted on 90 Form One students from a school in Tuaran District, Sabah. This study used a quasi-experimental design of pre-and post-test. The sample was divided into 3 groups, namely the group of learning methods i) Bar Model (MB, n = 30), ii) Bar Model and Cooperative Learning (MBPK, n = 30), and conventional (TR, n = 30). Statistical inference test, One-way Analysis of Variances Test (ANOVA) was used to analyze the findings of this study. The results of one-way ANOVA analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the mean score of the post-test between the MB group, MBPK group, and TR group (F (2, 87) = 9.316, p <.05). Significant differences in mean scores for post-test could only be seen between TR group with MB group (P = 0.019) and between TR group with MBPK group (P = 0.000) while insignificant differences were shown between MB and MBPK group (P = 0.304). Therefore, it is suggested that mathematics teachers use the Bar Model as a teaching aid to improve students' algebraic thinking skills.

Teachers are always required to always update the changes that occur, so that learning is able to prepare students to face the changes that occur. One of the important things that can be done by teachers is to develop HOTS-oriented learning so that students become accustomed to critical thinking so that they are able to develop their creativity. The purpose of this study is to determine the concept of higher order thinking skills, aspects of higher order thinking skills, HOTS-oriented learning characteristics. The results of this study are: Higher order thinking skills are thinking skills that are not just remembering, restating, and also referring without processing, but thinking skills to examine information critically, creatively, and able to solve problems, Skill-oriented learning higher order thinking is learning that involves 3 (three) aspects of higher order thinking skills, namely: transfer of knowledge, critical and creative thinking, and problem solving. The characteristics of HOTS-oriented learning must make students active in thinking.

Abstract: Math is able to train logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative thinking of students. Mathematical critical thinking ability is a capability that supports a variety of other mathematical thinking abilities. The students' critical thinking ability is also closely related to the personality or character of the student. Personality can affect how a person behaves, thinks, or interacts with around. The personality types discussed in this study are examined from four types of temperaments by the theories of Hippocrates and Galenus. This research includes the type of qualitative research that uses descriptive qualitative research methodology. This research will be conducted on the students of class XI MIA SMA Negeri 2 Kota Jambi. The thing described in this research is the students' mathematical critical thinking based on the dominant personality type on linear program solution. The results of personality tests of the instrument adapted from the patterns of personality by Lana Bateman found 40 dominant students that is the type of phlegmatic personality. Furthermore, based on sampling technique that is purposive sampling technique, 2 students are taken as research subjects ie phlegmatic students with the highest level of critical thinking ability called first phlegmatic students and phlegmatic students with the lowest level of critical thinking ability is called second phlegmatic student. From the results obtained can be concluded that the first phlegmatic students have the level of critical thinking skills are very critical and the second phlegmatic students have a critical level of critical thinking is not critical. This is inversely between the ability to think critically and the type of phlegmatic personality. The first phlegmatic student with enough phlegmatic category has critical critical mathematical thinking and the second phlegmatic student with very high / dominant phlegmatic category, critical critical thinking ability is not critical. Keywords: Mathematical Critical Thinking Ability, Four Temperament Types
