<p class="bdabstract">This study aims to examine the role of internal auditors on the business's risk valuation in Indonesia sharia rural banking. A qualitative approach used with the following three steps analysis. The first is the exploration of internal auditor function's existence, second focused on obtaining a depth conversation analysis, and, last, a confirmation to obtain the result's credibility. The results showed that internal auditors divided into two different important roles, included in directors' function, and the other was a supervisory role of the separated internal control unit, which both are controlling business risks in the operational, financial reporting, and compliance management. Internal auditors' role in the separated internal control force is more sustainable, consistent in all business aspects, and therefore focused on the potential business risks. Another role took comprehensive control, but it restricted by capacity and operational complexities.</p>

<p><em>This research is motivated by a "unique" phenomenon from of the role of the profession internal auditors. For </em><em>Internal </em><em>auditors </em><em>of  Internal Control Unit </em><em>(SPI) in</em><em> a non-profit organization, especially in an</em><em> </em><em>Higher Education Institution</em><em>, the uniqueness has the potential to place it in a situation of independence dilemma. The purpose of this study is to understand the reality of the independence dilemma faced by SPI auditors as a result of the conditions and work environment. In order to explore the auditor's understanding of SPI, phenomenology is employed as methodology, under interpretive paradigm as the umbrella of this research. Exploration of understanding and awareness is done using Epoche. The results of the study revealed that the SPI auditor faced a situation of independence in various forms: (1) the negative auditing stigma in the form of the awarding of "kambing hitam" to SPI raises a dilemma for auditors and disturbs the working spirit of the SPI auditor, on the other hand if implemented improperly will be contrary to the obligation and further aggravate the negative stigma already attached; (2) there is a phenomenon of impropriety (abuse) on audit guidelines that has not been fully implemented and not evaluated to provide ethical consideration in the future; (3) the existence of obedience pressure in the form of "suspension" the rector signs the SPI examination report</em><em>.</em><em> </em><em>d</em><em>ue to the term audit conception that has not been agreed upon. </em></p>

This study aims to examine the effect of interaction between internal auditor and audit committee on fraud detection in Malaysia.  Specific interaction is firstly; audit committee approving the appointment of chief audit executive, the evaluation of chief audit executive, the dismissal of chief audit executive, the internal audit budget and the internal audit plan or program.  Secondly, audit committee’s involvement in reviewing internal auditor’s work specifically; providing input for the internal audit plan, reviewing the results of internal auditing related to financial reporting, reviewing the results of internal auditing related to internal control, reviewing the results of internal auditing related to compliance with laws and regulation, reviewing the internal audit involvement in management responses to internal audit suggestions, reviewing the difficulties or scope restrictions encountered by internal auditors and reviewing the coordination between internal auditors and external auditors.  Survey questionnaires were mailed to internal auditors attached to 782 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia’s main market. The results of this study suggest that involvement of audit committee in approving chief audit executives’ matters is insignificant on internal auditors’ contribution to fraud detection.  However, audit committee’s involvement in reviewing internal auditors’ work significantly influence the internal auditors’ contribution in fraud detection.

<em>The issue of performance of internal auditors is important since Thailand was also affected by the accounting scandals. The expanded scope in the definition of internal auditing and new regulatory requirements such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002 has increased the demands on internal auditing. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the corporate governance on the performance of internal auditors in Thailand public limited companies. In this study, corporate governance relates to the board of directors size and audit committee size to the performance of the internal auditor. To achieve this objective, two hypotheses were developed based on previous studies and the agency theory. Survey questionnaires were sent to the Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) to determine the effectiveness on their performance based on the professional standards issued by the IPPF (2017) indicators. A total of 520 questionnaires were distributed, but only 146 were usable. Multiple regressions were used to test the relationship between the variables. The result showed that there is insignificant relationship between board of director’s size and internal auditors’ performance. This study however found that audit committee size has a positive relationship on the performance of internal auditors. Therefore, audit committee need to increase higher responsibility with regard to corporate governance by overseeing financial reporting and internal control matters.</em>

The purpose of this chapter is to study the role of the internal audit function in detecting and preventing fraud. First, this chapter will determine the notion and types of fraud on the one hand and the fraud triangle that companies face and that internal auditors try to detect and address on the other hand. Second, a description of the notion of internal audit will be provided, along with the specificities of this function at the heart of companies. The procedure of internal control and the fundamental principles leading to its effectiveness will be identified. In this regard, the authors analysed the profile of internal auditor. Therefore, an internal audit function with competent staff would generate a good system of internal control and is able to maintain the internal audit's ability to detect fraud. Finally, the role of the internal auditor in preventing fraud is analysed with reference to three dimensions: The first dimension is preemptive. The second dimension is social and ethical. The third dimension is the practical dimension.

<p><strong><em>Good internal control can provide confidence that an organization can achieve its goals with ethical actions. The phenomenon that occurs at this time shows that organizational culture is the main factor causing the emergence of huge scandals that afflict an organization that can prevent the organization from achieving its objectives. Risk in culture occurs when the behavior of members of an organization is not in line with the behavior that the organization wants to instill, causing unethical behavior that can hinder the achievement of goals and influence internal control of the organization.</em></strong></p><p><strong><em>At present, the organizational culture is an essential area within the scope of internal audit work. The role of the current internal auditor is expected to provide adequate assurance regarding one element of risk culture, namely the role of the leader (tone from the top) that has been carried out by following the values and ethics instilled by the organization. Leaders have a significant influence on the formation of culture and internal control systems in organizational units so that the role of internal auditors can provide confidence that the culture formed does not negatively affect overall organizational behavior becomes important.</em></strong><strong><em>  </em></strong></p>

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the influence of the role, ethics, and independence of internal auditors in implementing good university governance (GUG) with leadership style as a moderation variable. Multiple linear regression and moderation regression analysis models are used to test the hypothesis. The primary data are obtained through questionnaires that are distributed to the respondents, namely the dean and head of study program at the UniversitasBinaDarma and UniversitasMuhammadiyahPalembang. The results of this study indicate that the instruments in each variable proved to be valid and reliable. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it can be seen that simultaneously the variable of role, ethics, and independence of internal auditors have positively and significantly effect in implementing good university governance (GUG). These results provide justification or endorsement of the theoretical truths used as the theoretical references of Stewardship Theory and Attitude and Behavioral Theory. Based on the partial test, role of auditor does not significantly affect the variable of GUG, but ethics and independence variable are found to be significant in influencing GUG. The leadership style is negative and insignificant in moderating the role of internal auditors and GUC and also the independence of internal auditor and GUC. The leadership style is found to be positive and insignificant in moderating the relationship of internal auditors’ ethics and GUC.Keywords        Role, Ethics, Independence, Internal Auditor, Leadership Style, Good University Governance  ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji dan menganalisis pengaruh peran, etika, dan independensi auditor internal dalam menerapkan good university governance (GUG) dengan gaya kepemimpinan sebagai variabel moderasi. The purpose of this study is to analyze the demand for reporting on internal control. Nine financial statement user groups were identified and surveyed to determine whether they agree that: (1) management reports on internal control (MRIC) are useful, (2) MRICs influence decisions, and (3) financial reporting is improved by adding MRICs. In addition, the paper examined whether responses varied based on: (1) the definition of internal control used (manipulated as broad, operational definition vs. narrow, financial-reporting definition) and (2) user group. The results indicate that financial statement users agree that internal controls are important. Respondents agreed that voluntary MRICs improved controls and provided additional information for decision making. Respondents also agreed that mandatory MRICs improved controls, but did not agree about their value for decision making. Using a broad definition of controls, respondents strongly agreed that MRICs improved controls and provided a better indicator of a company's long-term viability. Executive respondents were less likely to agree about the value of MRICs than individual investors and internal auditors.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the role of employment policies in reducing internal control ineffectiveness and financial restatements. We provide new evidence that employee treatment policies are an important predictor of ineffective internal control. We also find that employee-friendly policies significantly reduce the propensity for employee-related material weaknesses. These results suggest that greater employee benefits facilitate the acquisition, development, and motivation of the workforce and ameliorate the loss of valuable human capital, thereby mitigating employee failures to implement internal control tasks properly. Moreover, we document novel results that financial restatements, especially those caused by unintentional errors, are less likely to arise in firms that invest more in employee benefits. Collectively, our emphasis on the effect of employee treatment policies on the integrity of internal control and financial reporting distinguishes our paper from previous studies that focus on the role of top executives in accounting practices.
