The higher education diversity programs that Texas enacted after Hopwood v. University of Texas banned affirmative action had unexpected positive consequences for the state’s high schools. The Texas top 10% law, the Longhorn Opportunity Scholarship and Century Scholarship programs, and the Towards Excellence, Access and Success Grant program each explicitly linked postsecondary opportunities to high school performance and clearly articulated that link to students across the state. As a result, these programs worked as K–16 school reforms, using college opportunities as incentives to improve educational outcomes at the high school level. Using panel data describing Texas high schools between 1993 and 2002, the author demonstrates that Texas’s post- Hopwood higher education policies redistributed college-related activity at public high schools and boosted high school students’ academic engagement.

This research was motivated by a problem in learning Indonesian in grade VII SMP with the material of Procedure Text. To overcome this, a learning media was made using technology to facilitate the distance learning process or independent learning. This study aims to describe the validity or feasibility value of millennial textbooks based on Augmented Reality technology used in learning Indonesian at the Junior High School level (SMP) in Procedure Text material. The Millennial Textbook is named The Magic Book, which is how it works using AR technology by displaying images on the book as well as 3D animation on Android-based devices. This research is a research and development or Research and Development (RnD) using the theory of Borg & Gall which contains 3 major steps, namely design, testing, evaluation. This article contains validation tests from media experts and material experts to test the feasibility value of developed textbooks and limited field trials for seventh grade students at the junior high school level in Magelang City. The result of this feasibility test is that the material expert gives an assessment score of 122 from a maximum score of 130 or equivalent to 93.8% eligibility in a valid or suitable category for use in learning. The media expert gave an assessment score of 84 out of a maximum score of 90 or equivalent to 93.3% in the valid or feasible category for use as a medium in the learning process. The results of the field trial stated that the Magic Book was categorized as valid and feasible to be applied in teaching procedural texts for seventh grade students of SMP in Magelang.

This paper will discuss the correlation between the SAT and the Math Inventory Test. Many school districts adopted the Math Inventory as a tool to measure student growth from grades kindergarten through high school. The Math Inventory is a computer-administered test that gives students math problems spanning from counting to high school level math. When completed, the students are given a quantile measure, much like a Lexile score for reading skill. The purpose of this study is to figure out if success on the Math Inventory is a good indicator for performing well on the SAT. For most high schools around the United States, objectives and lessons are aligned with those of the SAT. The goal of high school teachers is for students to excel on the SAT so that they can go to college, which means the tests used in middle school should be aligned with that goal. If the Math Inventory is not, then it might not be a very good use of school time and resources. Data was analyzed from the 2017-2018 school year from ten different high schools in an urban school district to determine the correlation between Math Inventory score, and the math score/sub scores of SAT/PSAT. The value of the Pearson’s correlation coefficient is used to suggest a fairly moderate positive relationship between these two variables.

AbstractThis research stems from a condition which was observed in Indonesian high school. In general  the schools do not implement the principles of multiple intelligences comprehensively. Conversely, it is still impressed that the  learning is still dominated by one intelligence based education,  that is IQ which is  cause and effect oriented eductional program. In line with that the learning is filled in the domain of cognition which is commonly oriented at the most basic level of mental development, in which the level of memorization activity is fulfilled the learning process. So that the complex intelligences of the learners’ do not develop optimally. This conditions produce that the  Indonesian educational products are not optimal. So to improve the quality of education, it is necessary to develop the implementation of learning system which based on the impact of the findings of neuroscience into education, including the development of multiple intelligences (multiple intelligences) in high school level. This research is a qualitative research seeing from philosophical approach and perspective. Along with that, the method used is descriptive, analysis and interpretive. Through philosophical approaches researcher tries to describe the essence of the eight intelligences and their applications in the learning process. With the method of description and interpretation, it is expected to be able to find an interpretation of the concept of multiple intelligences in accordance with socio-religious background of students’. Then by using the analysis method, the application of  these findings can be adjusted to the needs and potentials which is available at high school levelled education.

The Revised Two-factor Learning Process Questionnaire (R-LPQ-2F) is an instrument for assessing students’ learning approaches at the high school level. The instrument has significant potential for use in Singapore schools, but as yet, has not been validated in this context. This study evaluated the validity attributes of the R-LPQ-2F in a sample of Singapore senior high school students. The sample comprised 455 Year 11 students (266 male, 189 female) from Singapore. The internal structure of the R-LPQ-2F was evaluated by replicating the confirmatory factor analyses published in previous validations of the instrument, and assessing its internal consistencies and inter-scale correlations. Relationships between the R-LPQ-2F subscales and external variables were also evaluated. Results indicated that for the Deep Approach scale, a one-factor model fit the data well. For the Surface Approach scale, a four-factor model (Fear of Failure; Aim for Qualification; Minimizing Scope of Study; and Memorization) was found to fit the data best. Correlations between scores on the R-LPQ-2F subscales, on the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire, and a physics achievement test demonstrated expected patterns of correlation. Overall, results obtained in this study supported the construct validity of the R-LPQ-2F for use with Singapore high school students.
