The aim of the article was to find, scientifically define and locate the most frequent occurrences of the Late Renaissance garden units of the Carpathian Basin. This article - as partial result of a research work entitled "Castle Garden Inventory in the Carpathian Basin" and conducted by teachers and students of the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism of Szent István University, Budapest - aims to identify through historical research, on-site visits and assessments the current status of 148 Late Renaissance residency gardens located in seven different countries of the Carpathian Basin (Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia). Based on the archival and literary sources as well as the field studies carried out, we defined the spatial distribution of Late Renaissance residential gardens, we delineated six very characteristic Late Renaissance garden units and we defined the most typical Late Renaissance garden features for the region. At the same time, we explored and documented still existing values of garden history at some locations from the Renaissance era.

The paper is devoted to ethno-cultural landscapes of the Republic of Tuva. Ethnocultural landscapes (ECLs) are specific socio-environmental systems that developed as a result of the interaction of ethnic groups with their natural and social environments and are in a constant process of transformation. An attempt is made to identify the mechanisms of the formation, functioning and dynamics of ethnocultural landscapes in the specific conditions of the intracontinental cross-border mountain region, as well as to establish the main factors-catalysts of their modern changes. For the first time an attempt is made to delimit and map the ethnocultural landscapes of Tuva. For this, literary sources, statistical data and thematic maps of different times are analyzed using geoinformation methods. The results of 2014-2018 field studies are also used, during which interviews with representatives of different ethno-territorial, gender, age and social groups were taken. It is revealed that the key factors of Tuva’s ethnocultural landscape genesis are the natural isolation of its territory; the features of its landscape structure; the role of government; population migrations from other regions and the cultural diffusion provoked by them. 13 ethnocultural landscapes are identified at the regional level. Their modern transformation is determined by the shift of climatic cycles, aridisation, globalisation of sociocultural processes, changes in economic specialisation and ethnopsychological stereotypes.

To improve the soil moisture availability, by reducing the evaporation losses and retaining the moisture in effective rooting zone. The soil application of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) is found to be the promising methodology in drought prone areas. However, very limited research work done in Indian conditions on this aspect. One of such successfully developed product is ‘Pusa hydrogel’ which is first indigenous semi-synthetic superabsorbent technology for conserving water and enhancing crop productivity and thereby increases the water use efficiency. It performs its wetting or drying cycles over a longer period of time, maintaining its very high water swelling and releasing capacity against soil pressure. Consequently evaporation, deep water percolation and nutrient leaching can be avoided. Under rainfed condition, crops can better withstand drought condition without moisture stress by using hydrogel. Systematic field studies under arid and semi-arid conditions of India are needed to develop appropriate dose, frequency and method of application of different polymers to various crops and to assess economics of use of different polymers.

This chapter reviews the current work in knowledge management (KM) and attempts to draw lessons from research work in situated cognition about the nature of knowledge which can be useful to the field of KM. The role of technologies and the issues of literacy in technology are discussed in the context of communities of practice (CoPs) and the KM framework with some examples described for K-12 settings. Implications are drawn in terms of how teachers and students can be a community of learners-practitioners through technologies which support their work and learning processes.

Since Shanghai started the second phase of the elementary and middle school curriculum reform in 1998, teachers have been encouraged and expected to incorporate new technology to support teaching and learning, both in and out of the classrooms, so that students can get skills such as problem-solving, team-working, and time-management more efficiently. Consequently, in order to improve students' English reading comprehension skills, a brand new online learning platform named “Teaching Innovation Practice Platform” (TIPP) was developed and implemented to enhance English reading instruction at a public middle school in Shanghai in 2010. After several years of implementation, the platform has not only strengthened the interaction and communication between teachers and students but also improved students' learning. In the following sections, the current status of English reading instruction, the online learning platform TIPP and its application, as well as the impact on teaching and learning are described in detail.

With the outstanding improvements in technology, the number of e-learning applications has increased greatly. This increment is associated with awareness levels of educational institutions on the related improvements and the power of communication and computer technologies to ensure effective and efficient teaching and learning experiences for teachers and students. Consequently, there is a technological flow that changes the standards of e-learning processes and provides better ways to obtain desired educational objectives. When we consider today's widely used technological factors, Web-based e-learning approaches have a special role in directing the educational standards. Improvements among m-learning applications and the popularity of the Artificial Intelligence usage for educational works have given great momentum to this orientation. In this sense, this chapter provides some ideas on the future of intelligent Web-based e-learning applications by thinking on the current status of the literature. As it is known, current trends in developing Artificial Intelligence-supported e-learning tools continue to shape the future of e-learning. Therefore, it is an important approach to focus on the future. The author thinks that the chapter will be a brief but effective enough reference for similar works, which focus on the future of Artificial Intelligence-supported distance education and e-learning.

Abstract Background With up to 200 published contributions, the GreenLab mathematical model of plant growth, developed since 2000 under Sino-French co-operation for agronomic applications, is descended from the structural models developed in the AMAP unit that characterize the development of plants and encompass them in a conceptual mathematical framework. The model also incorporates widely recognized crop model concepts (thermal time, light use efficiency and light interception), adapting them to the level of the individual plant. Scope Such long-term research work calls for an overview at some point. That is the objective of this review paper, which retraces the main history of the model’s development and its current status, highlighting three aspects. (1) What are the key features of the GreenLab model? (2) How can the model be a guide for defining relevant measurement strategies and experimental protocols? (3) What kind of applications can such a model address? This last question is answered using case studies as illustrations, and through the Discussion. Conclusions The results obtained over several decades illustrate a key feature of the GreenLab model: owing to its concise mathematical formulation based on the factorization of plant structure, it comes along with dedicated methods and experimental protocols for its parameter estimation, in the deterministic or stochastic cases, at single-plant or population levels. Besides providing a reliable statistical framework, this intense and long-term research effort has provided new insights into the internal trophic regulations of many plant species and new guidelines for genetic improvement or optimization of crop systems.

Green chemistry occupies a research frontier that is the subject of much current research activity. Although it is not a new branch of chemistry, it demands distinctive thought processes about existing and new chemistry tools, as well as knowledge and creative design of those chemical principles that can contribute toward societal growth whilst protecting the environment and human health. To achieve these ends, it is necessary to create more awareness in the lay public, and to ensure that teachers and students at all levels of education become familiar with the basic concepts and their beneficial outcomes. In this respect, developing countries still have much to do in order to achieve higher levels of awareness of and participation in a greener vision.The IUPAC-sponsored Second International Symposium on Green/Sustainable Chemistry, held in Delhi on 10-13 January 2006, contributed successfully to promoting international awareness of green chemistry. Almost 550 delegates attended from 22 countries and participated in deliberations on recent advances in the trend toward more environmentally friendly practice of chemistry. In addition to a program of 8 plenary lectures and three-way parallel sessions for 31 main and 44 invited lectures by eminent scientists, upcoming doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows gave 33 oral presentations on their contributions to future developments in green chemistry. The poster presentations showcased up-to-date research on a range of topics including synthesis of bioactive compounds, green edges of physical chemistry including computational methods, and the use of biomaterials, nanotechnology, biomimetic processes, microwave technology, and ionic liquids, amongst others. The subject of methodological industrialization attracted much interest and served as a source of information and inspiration to representatives from no less than 28 chemical and pharmaceutical companies.The Symposium has contributed to the growing recognition that government, industry, and the academic sector need to cooperate closely, in order to achieve and promote the cause of green chemistry and its beneficial consequences throughout the world. The challenge for the chemistry community is to recognize the need and pursue research that engages environmentally friendly challenges and outcomes. Chemistry provides many of the tools that enable us to understand and influence the environment, and has the potential to be a decisive factor in securing an environmentally acceptable future for humankind. At the practical level, each advance through development of a safe process or a safe product contributes to that future. Much has already been achieved, but a great deal more remains to be done. The publication of this collection of papers, based upon a selection of lectures of the Symposium, provides an overview of some of the chemistry through which clean, eco-friendly, and less wasteful manufacturing processes for sustainable development is increasingly being realized.The International Organizing Committee contributed to shaping the program for this important event in the international calendar of green chemistry activities. The main thrust in this research work has been given on the evaluation of current status of Avifauna associated with Shallabug wetland. The main objectives were to evaluate the bird population fluctuation, to determine various threats to waterbirds and their habitats, and to present the remedial measures based on the key issues identified. For the purpose of present investigation, the study area was divided systematically into three study units of 700 m² each. Visual census method was used for the estimation of bird population. Visual counting was made with the help of high power field binocular (SG- 9.2) from respective vantage points. The birds were observed on the monthly basis in 2008 and the fluctuation in bird population was determined in different seasons: summer, autumn and winter.  The observations were made from 5:00 am to 7:00 am (when they come out from their resting place) and 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (when they approach towards their resting place). The analysis of the results showed that the Shallabug Wetland is particularly important for migratory bird species and marsh land breeding species. The wetland was also found important for long distance migrants as a stopper site for feeding and resting. The bird population showed fluctuation with site differences as well as with changing seasons. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed social mechanisms of our world causing many countries to impose either partial or complete lockdowns. Consequently, many people have resorted to online platforms for undertaking their daily business activities and jobs. Similarly, there is also an increasing trend of online education followed by both teachers and students around the world. Therefore, the aim of this research paper is to explore how a mentee learnt research techniques from a mentor through online platforms. Although researchers have studied the challenges and opportunities of online education during the pandemic, this research will explore how the mentee learnt research techniques from the mentor through emails, WhatsApp interaction, and Microsoft Word track changes feature. In this paper, we have used experiential research methodology for carrying out research. Employing qualitative method of data analysis, we have found out that the feedback and suggestions provided by a mentor to a mentee’s research work through the online platforms have been very safe and effective in improving the mentee’s research skills. Moreover, purposively selected chunks from the mentee’s six revised drafts have been discussed to demonstrate how online education facilitates practical learning during the pandemic. Finally, we are of the view that online platforms may be used as effective pedagogical tools because these facilitate learners to read their mentor’s feedback and suggestions as many times as they desire to improve their performance.
