Abstract A new coiled tubing (CT) failure mechanism has appeared in the past two to three years. The failures occur in CT strings used for frac plug milling in extend reach horizontal wells. The objective of this paper is to investigate a possible cause for these failures. The primary emphasis is analyzing the dynamic response of the CT to axial vibrations induced by a downhole extended reach tool [1], and the resulting tubing material response leading to failure.

THE PROBLEM of sudden, unexpected death in infancy (SUD) has become increasingly important in recent years in forensic medicine. Mortality in infancy from well defined causes has rapidly decreased, and the proportion of SUD of unknown cause has, therefore, been still more evident. Today SUD cannot be considered a problem for forensic medicine only; many other branches of medicine have an interest in this problem. In the past SUD has been attributed to suffocation by overlaying, by aspiration of vomitus, or by bedclothes. During the last 10 years it has widely been presumed that SUD is due to an overwhelming viral infection. Although much effort has been spent in an attempt to demonstrate the possible viral agent, the results have mainly been negative. Hypogammaglobulinemia as a possible cause of SUD was indicated by Harboe and Gormsen, and more recently it was suggested that SUD results from an anaphylatic reaction to cow's milk inhaled into the larynx or trachea. Many authors have pointed out that SUD might be connected with rickets or some more obscure kind of disorder in the calcium metabolism, and in 1962 Maresch demonstrated a significantly low content of calcium in heart musculature in these infants and presumed that one and the same basal disorder of metabolism might lead to rickets and spasmophilia as well as to SUD. However different the theories, two facts seem to be generally accepted by all authors in this field. Nearly all claim that SUD is significantly most frequent at the age of about 3 to 4 months.

Abstract Horizontal well completions are often equipped with Inflow Control Devices (ICDs) to optimize flow rates across the completion for the whole length of the interval and to increase the oil recovery. The ICD technology has become useful method of optimizing production from horizontal wells in a wide range of applications. It has proved to be beneficial in horizontal water injectors and steam assisted gravity drainage wells. Traditionally the challenges related to early gas or water breakthrough were dealt with complex and costly workover/intervention operations. ICD manipulation used to be done with down-hole tractor conveyed using an electric line (e-line) cable or by utilization of a conventional coiled tubing (CT) string. Wellbore profile, high doglegs, tubular ID, drag and buoyancy forces added limitations to the e-line interventions even with the use of tractor. Utilization of conventional CT string supplement the uncertainties during shifting operations by not having the assurance of accurate depth and forces applied downhole. A field in Saudi Arabia is completed with open-hole packer with ICD completion system. The excessive production from the wells resulted in increase of water cut, hence ICD's shifting was required. As operations become more complex due to fact that there was no mean to assure that ICD is shifted as needed, it was imperative to find ways to maximize both assurance and quality performance. In this particular case, several ICD manipulating jobs were conducted in the horizontal wells. A 2-7/8-in intelligent coiled tubing (ICT) system was used to optimize the well intervention performance by providing downhole real-time feedback. The indication for the correct ICD shifting was confirmed by Casing Collar Locator (CCL) and Tension & Compression signatures. This paper will present the ICT system consists of a customized bottom-hole assembly (BHA) that transmits Tension, compression, differential pressure, temperature and casing collar locator data instantaneously to the surface via a nonintrusive tube wire installed inside the coiled tubing. The main advantages of the ICT system in this operation were: monitoring the downhole force on the shifting tool while performing ICD manipulation, differential pressure, and accurately determining depth from the casing collar locator. Based on the known estimated optimum working ranges for ICD shifting and having access to real-time downhole data, the operator could decide that required force was transmitted to BHA. This bring about saving job time while finding sleeves, efficient open and close of ICD via applying required Weight on Bit (WOB) and even providing a mean to identify ICD that had debris accumulation. The experience acquired using this method in the successful operation in Saudi Arabia yielded recommendations for future similar operations.

Abstract From year to year, well drilling is becoming more technologically advanced and more complex, therefore we observe the active development of drilling technologies, well completion and production intensification. It forms the trend towards the complex well geometry and growth of the length of horizontal sections and therefore an increase of the hydraulic fracturing stages at each well. It's obvious, that oil producing companies frequently don't have proved analytical data on the actual distribution of formation fluid in the inflow profiles for some reasons. Conventional logging methods in horizontal sections require coiled tubing (CT) or downhole tractors, and the well preparation such as drilling the ball seat causing technical difficulties, risks of downhole equipment getting lost or stuck in the well. Sometimes the length of horizontal sections is too long to use conventional logging methods due to their limitations. In this regard, efficient solution of objectives related to the production and development of fields with horizontal wells is complicated due to the shortage of instruments allowing to justify the horizontal well optimal length and the number of MultiFrac stages, difficulties in evaluating the reservoir management system efficiency, etc. A new method of tracer based production profiling technologies are increasingly applied in the global oil industry. This approach benefits through excluding well intervention operations for production logging, allows continuous production profiling operations without the necessity of well shut-in, and without involving additional equipment and personal to be located at wellsite.

Last year, this feature opened, almost inevitably, with comments on the effects the COVID-19 pandemic might have on our industry. Unfortunately, a year later, we probably have all experienced the effects, both personal and work-related. One of these effects is that there has been re-evaluation of what’s important. To understand what is important takes some reflection and evaluation of the past. In previous features, the focus has been on what is new or reimagined. Therefore, I thought that, in selecting papers for this year’s feature, it would be useful to select ones that look at coiled tubing operations performed and that have been evaluated in one way or another. From Bolivia comes a paper that reviews some 25 well interventions performed. Most of these operations are of a type that will be familiar to the reader. Also, some of the challenges that were faced in performing these coiled tubing operations will be familiar. These operations used a range of established types of coiled tubing operations and blended the techniques to meet particular operating conditions, especially location and logistics challenges. All conclusions and best practices that resulted, however, may not be familiar to all readers. During the past few years, many coiled tubing papers have focused on the use of coiled tubing in multizone fracturing operations, especially plug milling. An area of coiled tubing use in fracturing operations that has had less of an audience recently has been the use of coiled tubing in annular fracturing operations. This activity is still routinely being performed, particularly in Canada. The question has long existed about how the pipe is being eroded. In the related paper in this feature, the authors explain how they have tried to answer that question and have shared some of their review insights. In the past decade, coiled tubing size, weight, and grade all have continued to increase. Looking back at this trend and thinking about its effect on pressure control equipment led the developers in the third of this year’s papers to work on solutions for shear rams. This is particularly relevant after having just passed the 11th anniversary of the tragic Macondo disaster. Again, this year, I ask everyone to stay well. Abstract Over the past few years, the oil and gas industry has faced a situation of high fluctuations in hydrocarbon prices on the world market. In addition, the trend for the depletion of traditional hydrocarbon reservoirs and the search for new effective solutions for the management and control of field development using horizontal and multilateral wells is still relevant. The most common method for horizontal wells testing is production logging tools (PLT) on coiled tubing (CT) or downhole tractor, which is associated with HSE risks and high cost, especially on offshore platforms, which limits the widespread use of this technology. The solution without such risks is the method of marker well monitoring, which allows obtaining information about the profile and composition of the inflow in a dynamic mode in horizontal wells without well intervention. There are several types of tracer (marker) carriers and today we will consider an approach to placing marker monitoring systems as part of a completion for three-phase oil, water and gas monitoring.

Purpose: To report a case of sudden cardiac arrest possibly associated with the administration of GoLytely® (polyethylene glycol 3350 and electrolytes). Summary: A 60-year-old male with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and coronary artery disease presented to the emergency department with complaints of constipation and lower abdominal pain over the past week, and the inability to urinate over the past day. The patient had received GoLytely as treatment to alleviate symptoms of constipation and abdominal pain. However, several hours after administration of the bowel prep solution, the patient suffered an episode of cardiac arrest. After ruling out other possible etiologies, GoLytely was suspected as a possible cause of cardiac arrest. The patient had suffered an anoxic brain injury and remained intubated and unconscious until he eventually expired, 20 days after the event. Conclusion: Although GoLytely appears to be a safe agent with fewer side effects, clinicians need to be mindful of potential life-threatening adverse events following GoLytely administration and monitor patients closely during and after administration.
