Cement Evaluation in Highly Laminated and Multi-Stacked Sandstone Reservoirs: The World First Novel Approach Using Dual-Physics Cement Bond Assessment

Abstract Advances in cement recipe, additives and cementing technology including light weight cement, ultra-low fluid loss cement blend and improved cement to mud rheology mixing to seal the continuous liquid channels have prompted the industry to find an innovative way to evaluate the cement bond and integrity with a more robust and integrated approach. Evaluating cement bond behind casing based on single tool platform had shown some inherent uncertainties mainly due to borehole effects, tool eccentralization and processing variation. This paper will highlight few case studies on the application of both electromagnetic acoustic wave (EMAT) and ultrasonic cement evaluation logs including the world's first tool combination in single run to enhance understanding on cement integrity and optimize the perforation interval for production. Channeling and microannulus occurrences whether dry or wet are the most common features in cement integrity evaluation and yet poorly characterized to prevent any unwanted cross-flow or adverse impact to production. Electromagnetic acoustic wave cement evaluation in combination with an ultrasonic tool allow direct quantification of compressional, shear and flexural attenuation properties of cement downhole as well as acoustic impedance and microdebonding feature of the cement. Separation between average shear and flexural attenuation curves may indicate presence of microannulus depending on the extent of the separation without any requirement of additional pressurized logging pass. Parameter threshold determination based on shear and flexural attenuation cross-plot also indicates severity of cement microdebonding. Results showed that good production rate with lower water cut and low GOR reading had been achieved from specific perforated zones in the well. Electromagnetic acoustic wave and ultrasonic cement evaluation tools had successfully defined the zonal isolation layers as thin as 2 to 3 meters along the wellbore and optimized the perforated zones to avoid any liquid channeling or premature water and gas breakthrough into the wells, which can affect the production attainability and drainage efficiency from particular reservoirs. In a nutshell, combination of EMAT acoustic wave and ultrasonic cement evaluation principles prove to provide a more comprehensive overview on the cement bond integrity behind the casing. Having two independent downhole measurement which complement each other will reinvent the effort in cement bond assessment for complex reservoir environment which is susceptible to interpretation ambiguity.

Abstract This article describes a novel approach to realtime motion assessment for rehabilitation exercises based on the integration of comprehensive kinematic modeling with fuzzy inference. To facilitate the assessment of all important aspects of a rehabilitation exercise, a kinematic model is developed to capture the essential requirements for static poses, dynamic movements, as well as the invariance that must be observed during an exercise. The kinematic model is expressed in terms of a set of kinematic rules. During the actual execution of a rehabilitation exercise, the similarity between the measured motion data and the model is computed in terms of their distances, which are then used as inputs to a fuzzy interference system to derive the overall quality of the execution. The integrated approach provides both a detailed categorical assessment of the overall execution of the exercise and the degree of adherence to individual kinematic rules.

Operation strategy plays an important role in business improvement and calls for many research attention in recent years. This study aims to propose an integrated approach to determine the most appropriate operational strategies in their companies under multi-conflicting objectives with a limited budget. The novel approach is developed by using the combination of Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Situation (Fuzzy TOPSIS), Sensitivity Analysis (SA) and Multi-Objective Linear Programming (MOLP) model. The operation strategies are evaluated through five objectives such as Productivity, Quality, Cost, Time and Importance score. The importance scores of all strategies are firstly obtained from the Fuzzy TOPSIS method. The sets of the weight of criteria are then established by using SA while MOLP approach is used to select appropriate strategies under multi-conflicting objectives with limited resources. A case study with 110 possible scenarios of operational strategies from An Giang Fisheries Import Export Joint Stock Company in Vietnam is considered to illustrate the practicability of the proposed approach. The results found that the proposed approach is suitable to make a decision on operation strategy.

Purpose Effectively evaluating the efficiency of individual e-markets for better understanding the efficiency-oriented critical drivers for individual e-markets is of great significance to the development of electronic business. The purpose of this paper is to develop an approach through adequately integrating data envelopment analysis (DEA) and bootstrapped Tobit regression analysis for identifying the efficiency-oriented critical drivers on the development of e-market in electronic business. Design/methodology/approach A review of the related literature is conducted for adequately formulating the e-market evaluation problem. DEA is appropriately used for assessing the efficiency of available e-markets, leading to the identification of the efficient e-market. Tobit regression analysis is then employed to examine the outcome of the DEA analysis for identifying the efficiency-oriented critical drivers in the development of e-markets in electronic business. Findings A better understanding of the operations of individual e-markets with respect to their overall efficiency in electronic business can be achieved with the use of the developed approach. Such understanding is built on the identification of the efficiency-oriented critical drivers on the development of e-market in electronic business. Originality/value This paper develops a novel approach for better understanding of the operations of individual e-markets with respect to their overall efficiency in electronic business. The adoption of this approach helps existing e-markets improve their efficiency by focussing on the efficiency-oriented critical drivers and provide new players in e-markets with guidelines for developing their efficient e-markets.

PurposeThe risk of adverse events in a hospital evaluation is an important process in healthcare management. It involves several technical, social, and economical aspects. The purpose of this paper is to propose an integrated approach to evaluate the risk of adverse events in the hospital sector.Design/methodology/approachThis paper aims to provide a decision-making framework to evaluate hospital service. Three well-known methods are applied. More specifically are proposed the following methods: analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a structured technique for organizing and analyzing complex decisions, based on mathematics and psychology developed by Thomas L. Saaty in the 1970s; decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) to construct interrelations between criteria/factors and VIKOR method, a commonly used multiple-criteria decision analysis technique for determining a compromise solution and improving the quality of decision making.FindingsThe example provided has demonstrated that the proposed approach is an effective and useful tool to assess the risk of adverse events in the hospital sector. The results could help the hospital identify its high performance level and take appropriate measures in advance to prevent adverse events. The authors can conclude that the promising results obtained in applying the AHP–DEMATEL–VIKOR method suggest that the hybrid method can be used to create decision aids that it simplifies the shared decision-making process.Originality/valueThis paper presents a novel approach based on the integration of AHP, DEMATEL and VIKOR methods. The final aim is to propose a robust methodology to overcome disadvantages associated with each method.

The new and more conscious sensibility towards the environmental sphere supports the idea of “green city”, promotes initiatives of structural integration of the green with the built environment and involves a considerable number of disciplines in a cultural and social debate. The literature reports different experiences of collaborative governance, between administrations and citizens, which tend to enhance the interaction between the different social actors involved in the investments of Green Infrastructures, to share objectives and management methods and to assess the extent of ecosystem services. The objective of this article is to propose a methodological approach to assessing green investments in the urban area, which is able to internalize the social perception of citizens regarding this important component for the urban landscape, with a view to guiding the city’s government towards a new urban eco-social-green planning and evaluation model. It presents a concise framework of the scientific debate on climate change and on the effects of urban planning issues; some relevant experiences of Green Infrastructures; and the proposed methodology, applied to the reality of the “urban green system” of Catania, based on an integrated approach between participatory planning and the method NAIADE (Novel Approach to Imprecise Assessment and Decision Environments).

For the last two decades most professional architectural and engineering associations have encouraged their members to embrace an integrated design approach to improve and minimize the energy flows through buildings, cities and the broader ecosystem. While the integrated design approach often is portrayed as relatively novel approach, the reality is that it is only since the rise of professionalism in the Western world that the building industry developed a disjointed approach to energy design in the built environment. Previously the professions of architecture and engineering were intertwined, and the architect-engineers of antiquity, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment still can serve as role models for how building industry professionals can take a unified approach to design even considering the complexities of modern building techniques. This paper attempts to provide a brief historical review of the integrated approach to energy design that many architect-engineers took before the industrial revolution.

AbstractBackground. Since the High Nature Value (HNV) concept was defined in the early 1990s, several studies on HNV farmland has been increasing over the past 30 years in Europe, highlighting the interest by scientific community of HNV farming systems supporting biodiversity conservation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the trends and main gaps on HNV farmland peer-reviewed publications in order to contribute to the effectiveness of future research in this field. Methods. Searches were conducted using the databases Web of SciencesTM and Scopus in order to identify only peer-reviewed articles on HNV farmland, published prior to July 2017. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed a priori. Data as year, country, type of document, subject area, taxa studied and biodiversity metrics assessed were extracted and explored in order to analyse the spatial and temporal distribution of the concept, including the main topics addressed in HNV farmland literature. Results. After screening 308 original articles, 90 were selected for this review. HNV farmland studies involved several disciplines, mainly biodiversity and conservation and environmental sciences and ecology. Most peer-reviewed articles focused on HNV farming were conducted in Spain, Italy, Ireland and Portugal. The main studied taxa were plants and birds. Taxonomic diversity was the biodiversity metric more often used to assess the biodiversity status on HNV farmland areas. A positive correlation was found between HNV farmland area and HNV farmland studies conducted in respective countries. Discussion. The HNV farmland research subject is a relative novel approach, and this systematic review provides a comprehensive overview about the main topics in the HNV farmland peer-reviewed literature contributing to highlight the main gaps and provide some considerations in order to assist the performance of HNV farming systems and conservation policies, addressed to sustain high levels of biodiversity.
