The SMART SRP Well – Application of Edge Analytics for Automated Well Performance Control and Condition Monitoring in a Mature Brownfield Environment – A Case Study from Austria

Abstract This paper presents a holistic approach to modern oilfield and well surveillance through the inclusion of state-of-the-art edge computing applications in combination with a novel type of data transmission technology and algorithms developed in-house for automatic condition monitoring of SRP systems. The objective is to enable the responsible specialist staff to focus on the most important decisions regarding oilfield management, rather than wasting time with data collection and preparation. An own operated data communication system, based on LPWAN-technology transfers the dyno-cards, generated by an electric load cell, into the in-house developed production assistance software platform. Suitable programmed AI-algorithms enable automatic condition detection of the incoming dyno cards, including conversion and analysis of the corresponding subsurface dynamograms. A smart alarming system informs about occurring failure conditions and specifies whether an incident of rod rupture, pump-off condition, gas lock or paraffin precipitation occurred in the well. A surface mounted measuring device delivers liquid level and bottomhole pressure information automatically into the software. Based on these diverse data, the operations team plans the subsequent activities. The holistic application approach is illustrated using the case study of an SPR-operated well in an Austrian brownfield.

Abstract With rising energy demand, operators in the Middle East are now focusing on developing unconventional resources. To optimize hydraulic fracture stimulation, most of these deep gas wells are required to be drilled laterally and in the direction of the minimum horizontal stress. However, this poses an increased risk of stuck pipe due to hole instability, differential sticking and skin damage due to high overbalance pressures, which makes drilling these wells challenging and costly. Another major challenge in the Middle East is lost circulation due to natural fractures in carbonate reservoirs. Lost circulation currently accounts for loss of approximately $850-900 million USD per year globally across the industry (Marinescu 2014). This paper presents a case study where a holistic approach; combining geomechanics and drilling technologies were employed to address the drilling challenges specific to unconventional and naturally fractured reservoirs. Ultimately, this approach helped the client to mitigate stuck pipe issues, while proposing a physics/engineering-basedmethodology to reduce losses by sealing fractures, hence providing a roadmap to optimized drilling and mitigation of hazards with associated Non-Productive Time (NPT). The paper demonstrates a holistic approach, combining wellbore stability analysis, managed pressure drilling (MPD) and proposes a novel physics/engineering-based methodology for addressing lost circulation challenges. A 1-D wellbore stability model is initially developed to determine the safe operating downhole pressure limits and to effectively assess the drilling risks associated with the planned wellbore orientation. By accurately determining the required bottomhole pressure to prevent wellbore stability problems, managed pressure drilling technology can be implemented to provide improved drilling hazard mitigation by enabling reduced overbalance pressures, constant bottomhole pressure, and faster reaction time by instantaneously adjusting downhole pressures. A bi-particulate bio-degradable system is used as a lost circulation material (LCM). The bigger size cylindrical particles flowing at a pre-defined rate will form a bridge or a plug across the fracture aperture, providing mechanical stability and the smaller spherical particles will seal the gaps in the bridge there by providing an effective sealing of the fracture opening. From experience, implementing these methodologies and technologies in isolation has not provided satisfactory results. This indicates that a partnership which leverages the strengths of the individual disciplines from the early planning stages is necessary to effectively address the drilling challenges posed by unconventional and naturally fractured reservoirs. For the case study highlighted in this paper, the well was drilled to TD in a timely manner, while maintaining the integrity of the hole, hence confirming the viability of this approach. In addition, the physics and engineering design workflow for bi-particulate bio-degradable LCM demonstrates how it can be effectively deployed to mitigate lost circulation without skin damage to the formation

Since the United Nations (UN) approved the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in 2015, higher education institutions have increasingly demonstrated their commitment by supporting several initiatives. Although a great deal of progress has been made, there is still a lack of integrative approaches to truly implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education. This paper presents a practical case that illustrates how to design and articulate SDGs within an institutional setting adopting a holistic approach: EHUagenda 2030 plan of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). It is based on empirical inquiry into global and holistic sustainable transformation and a real experience to move towards a verifiable and pragmatic contribution to sustainability. This plan describes the contribution to 12 of the 17 SDGs, along with three sectorial plans (Equality Campus, Inclusion Campus and Planet Campus), as well as the refocus of the UPV/EHU’s Educational Model and the panel of sustainable development indicators, which addresses the technical aspects of monitoring the SDGs. The methodology (mapping; mainstreaming; diagnosis and definition and, finally, estimation) is systematic and replicable in other universities yet to embark upon this integration. This case study makes a contribution towards the understanding of the complexity of the changes in Higher Education and the ways to approach it.

Abstract Emerging understanding of gender-specific religious persecution in some of the world’s most difficult countries for Christians offers timely insight into complex dynamics in which the church and missions have too often been unwittingly complicit due to limited visibility of the components contributing to these wounds. Fresh research into these deeply wounding global phenomena stands as both a warning and a pointer towards an avenue for effective ministrations by churches and Christian ministries that are working in the most severely affected areas of the world. Drawing on the latest trends identified by World Watch Research, outcomes of the Consultation for Christian Women under Pressure for their Faith, a contemporary case study from Central African Republic, and a biblical narrative, we will explore practical opportunities for a holistic approach to bring preparedness, healing, and restoration for communities under severe pressure for their Christian faith.

Purpose This paper aims to describe mind–body infused coaching and to explain four distinct effects it can have on organizational executives and employees. Design/methodology/approach A review of theory and research on mind–body practices, emotional intelligence and work performance was conducted. A case study from the author’s experience also is included. Findings Mind–body infused coaching activates employees’ awareness, ignites a strengths-based approach, improves inner workings of the brain, boosts emotional intelligence and promotes curiosity. Practical implications HR professionals and managers are encouraged to obtain training in evidence-based mind–body principles to improve and sustain outcomes when coaching organizational executives and employees. Originality/value Conventional coaching approaches tend to be highly reductionistic by focusing solely on employees’ personality types, soft skills or achievement of specific goals. This paper discusses a holistic approach to coaching the whole person and outlines four specific benefits that could be anticipated as a result.

The continuing evolution of ubiquitous learning technologies and networks is reshaping models of learning with increasing potential for underserved populations of learners who cannot afford tertiary education. This paper presents a case study of innovative highly networked organisation called the “Open Education Resource universitas” (OERu). As the theme of EDEN 2019 conference has recognised, “Technology is with us everywhere which validates the horizontal-holistic approach for imperative questions of the period. For the transforming education landscape, challenges come increasingly from the socio-cultural-economic, structural and policy fields. Education has to be visionary to reach efficiency gains, new sources – and to offer sustainable services, reflecting the complexity of modern societies.” The OERu is on the far left of such visionary developments with a radically open approach to its equitable mission to expand higher education to come within the reach of all of students who are likely to remain underserved.Established in 2011, the OERu as an educational organisation is co-evolving with cutting edge technologies such as, micro-learning, alternative digital credentials, and implementation of an open source Next Generation Digital Learning Environment (NGDLE) (Brown, 2017). Its strategy is to evolve by scaling up with partners worldwide. Innovations already documented include a successful small mOOC (Davis Mackintosh, 2013). This case study plots the OERu in Niki Davis’ (2018) Arena Framework to clarify the complexity of the evolution of this organisation. The findings aim to support the OERu and its partners to fulfil their vision of providing affordable access to education.

Introduction. Alzheimer's disease (AD – Alzheimer Disease) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease. The main source of memory discomfort is destruc-tion. With age, irresistibly falling ill with it. Risk factors for the development of Alzheimer's disease are primarily: diabetes, female gender, hypertension and the lack of a control field. It is estimated that in Poland Alzheimer's disease affects about 200,000 people. According to statistics, 60% of all forms of de-mentia are AD. Aim of the study. The aim of the study is to present the activities that should be performed by a nurse caring for a patient with diagnosed Alzheimer's dis-ease. Case study. A 75-year-old patient admitted to the internal medicine ward, she has communication, content swallowing and spatial orientation disorders. It requires constant assistance in the performance of everyday activities. He complains of urinary and faecal incontinence. Conclusion. Thanks to the holistic approach to the patient, it is possible to ensure her correctness and the approach of the patient and her family.

The paper aims to point out the limitations of the partial and the need for a holistic approach to researching the influences of national culture on the management. Using the case study of organizational restructuring of Serbian enterprises, the paper shows how the complete understanding of the influences of national culture on management will be possible only if all dimensions of the national culture are simultaneously included in the analysis. The main hypothesis of the paper is that the low degree of formalization of Serbian companies' organizational structure, even with a high degree of uncertainty avoidance in Serbian national culture, results from the forces of collectivism and "female" values in this culture.
