Growth and Yield Response of NSIC Rc 204H (M20) to Nostoc (Nostoc commune Vauch) in Different Rates of Inorganic Fertilizer Application

Abstract The study was conducted to evaluate the growth and yield response of M20 with the application of Nostoc and to determine the ideal combination of inorganic fertilizer and Nostoc. Based on the result of the study, in terms of growth parameters; application of 3 g Nostoc with 1/2 RRIF gave the best response among the treatment in plant height, while application of 3 g Nostoc with 3/4 RRIF was the best treatment when it comes to days to flowering. Furthermore, the application of full RRIF was the best in terms of chlorophyll content. In yield parameters, the application of 3 g Nostoc with 1/4 RRIF gave significance response to grain yield and biomass. While the application of no Nostoc with 1/4 RRIF had the heaviest 1000 grain weight. For the number of tillers per plant (14.7), the application of 3 g Nostoc with 3/4 RRIF gave the best response among the treatments. And for the number of filled grains, rice grown without Nostoc but fertilized only with 1/2 RRIF had the most number of filled grain. Overall, Nostoc treatment did not significantly alter the response of M20 based on all agronomic parameters tested in the study.

The experiment was conducted to clarify the growth and yield response of two rice cultivars, BR55 and BR43 under salt stress. Six different concentrations of NaCl viz 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mM and distilled water (control) were applied on the rice cultivars which were grown under pot culture condition. Growth parameters like plant height, tiller number, leaf number and leaf area were negatively affected by salinity in both cultivars. Salt stress caused a significant reduction in yield in both cultivars of rice. Growth reduction was higher in BR43 than in BR55.The reduction in yield and yield parameters were found to be lower in BR55 than those in BR43. The experiment was conducted during spring summer seasons of 2013 and 2014 conducted at Research Farm of Vegetable Science, CCS HAU, in summer season. There were three spacing, three fertilizer levels and two varieties in split-split plot design with three replications. Growth parameters of okra crop were significantly affectedby spacing, fertilizer and varieties. Highest plants were observed in wider spacing with fertilizer application of 187.5 kg N + 75kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O per hectare in variety HBT-49-1. However, numbers of branches were highest in variety Hisar Unnat. Yield attributes like first fruiting node, intermodal length, fruit length and diameter etc. were highest in variety HBT-49-1 resulting in highest fruit yield (q/ha) in spacing 30 cm x 10 cm with the application of 187.5 kg N+75 kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O per hectare. The seed yield attributes and yield was significantly affected by spacing, fertilizer and varieties. Finally, spacing 30 cm × 10 cm resulted in higher growth parameters, yield attributes and yield with the application of 187.5 kg N +75 kg P2O5 + 60 K2O in variety HBT-49-1 of okra.

Indigenous vegetables are plant species that are of great nutritional and medicinal importance. In a bid to ensure their domestication, availability and consumption, it is necessary to investigate their response to fertilizer treatment and other suitable agronomic practices that will enhance their cultivation and nutritional composition. In this study, an experiment was carried out to determine the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of Solanum macrocarpon. The experiment was laid out in a Complete Randomized Design with four treatments: NPK 200 kg /ha, - T1, Poultry manure 6t/ ha - T2, NPK and Poultry manure 100 kg/ha + 3 t/ha - T3, Control, No Fertilizer - T4. Leaf area, plant height, number of leaves, and stem diameter were measured using standard methods. Proximate and mineral analyses were also carried out in accordance with standard chemical methods. The growth and yield of S. macrocarpon was improved by fertilizer application. All growth parameters measured increased with plant age and significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed among the treatments. Results obtained from this study also highlighted the potential of poultry as an alternative source of Nitrogen required for plant growth. Although both organic and inorganic fertilizers improved the growth performance of the vegetable, yet, the inorganic fertilizer produced the best results for all the parameters studied. Inorganic (NPK) and organic (Poultry manure) fertilizer increased soil fertility and improved the nutritional composition, but Solanum macrocrapon plants grown with inorganic fertilizer performed better.

Research on the effect of dosage combination of Evagrow bio-fertilizer and chemical fertilizers on soil properties, growth and yield of rice has been carried out in the glasshouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University using factorial experiment with a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The first factor is Evagrow bio-fertilizer in 3 level, i.e. E0 (without bio-fertilizers), E1 (5 g bio-fertilizer/L) E2 (10 grams bio-fertilizer/L). The second factor is chemical fertilizer, which consists of 3 levels: K0 (without chemical fertilizers), K1 (150 kg Urea/ha + 75 kg SP36/ha + 37.5 kg KCl/ha), K2 (300 kg Urea/ha + 150 kg SP36/ha + 75 kg KCl/ha). The results showed that chemical fertilizers give a significant and very significant effect on most of the rice growth and yield parameters. The application of chemical fertilizers K1 and K2 increased yield of dry grain harvest to 52.87% and 102.54% compared to controls.  Application of Evagrow bio-fertilizer did not significantly increase growth and yield of rice. There is no interaction between chemical fertilizers and Evagrow bio- fertilizer.  Similarly to some of the soil characteristics, biological fertilizer and chemical fertilizer application did not show significant effect on most of the soil characteristics, except on salt levels.Keywords: Evagrow Biofertilizer, Inorganic Fertilizer, Oryza Sativa

A field trial was conducted at the experimental farm of the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, to determine the growth and yield response of cucumber (cv. Poinsett) to timing of fertilizer application. Fertilizer (20:10:10), at the rate of 150 kg N ha-1, was applied at: planting, 3 weeks after planting (WAP) and 6 WAP. Similarly, split applications were given at planting + 3 WAP, at planting + 6 WAP and at 3 WAP + 6 WAP. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with seven treatments (six fertilizer application treatments plus a non fertilizer control) and four replications. Means were separated using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at the 5% level of significance. In general, plants that were fertilized performed better than control plants in terms of vegetative growth and yield. A split application at 3 WAP + 6 WAP performed the best in terms of vegetative growth and fruit yield. Fertilizer applied once-over at 6 WAP was the least beneficial; application of fertilizer once-over at planting, or a split application at planting + 3 WAP, resulted in a high level of vegetative growth but lower fruit yield compared with the split application at 3 WAP + 6 WAP. Dry seeds of six faba bean varieties (Sakha 1, Nubaria 2, Nubaria 3, Giza 3, Giza 716 and Giza  843) were irradiated with low doses of gamma rays (20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 200 Gy). Treated seeds and control seeds were grown for two seasons. Results revealed that doses below 100 Gy increased morphological  growth parameters as well as some yield parameters. The most effective dose varied in different faba bean varieties. Higher doses above 100 Gy were detrimental to plant growth and yield. The variation in ISSR profiling in response to g-irradiation treatments in M2 was detected using seven ISSR primers. The seven primers produced 81 bands including 75 polymorphic bands and 6 unique bands. The unique bands were scored in var. Nubaria 3 by the doses (20, 80 and 100 Gy), var. Giza 3 by the doses (20 and 60 Gy) and var. Nubaria 2 by the dose 200 Gy. The two varieties Nubaria 3 and Nubaria 2 showed higher numbers of polymorphic bands (225, 191) respectively compared to other varieties. Polymorphic information content (PIC) was estimated for each primer and ranged from 0.193 for primer 807 to 0.31 for primer 834 with a mean of 0.259.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2019 at farmer’s field in Panruti near Cuddalore district (Tamil Nadu) to study effect of organic manures as INM component on growth, yield and quality of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) in a randomized block design. The treatments consisted of recommended dose of fertilizers at two levels (160:60:30 and 120:45:22.5 kg NPK ha-1) and organic manures (20 t FYM ha-1, 50 kg Bio ash ha-1, 5 t press mud granules ha-1, 20 kg Sea weed extract granules ha-1 and 5 t neem cake ha-1) and replicated three times. The growth and yield parameters of chilli were significantly influenced due to application of organic manures. Among the treatments, 75% RDF + 20 t FYM + 20 kg Sea weed extract granules + 5 t neem cake ha-1 (T8) exhibited better performances of growth and yield parameters of chilli cv. Indus 13. The maximum values of growth parameters such as plant height, leaves plant-1, branches plant-1, canopy volume, chlorophyll content in the leaves and net photosynthetic rate were observed in this treatment (T8). The yield parameters such as days to first flowering, days to 50% flowering, flowers plant-1, fruit set, fruits plant-1, fruit length, fruit girth, pericarp thickness, pulp seed ratio, single fruit weight, total fruit yield (28.18 t ha-1) and quality parameters like capsaicin content (0.76%) and ascorbic acid content (171.3 mg g-1) were highest in this treatment (T8) suggested this is the best integrated nutrient management combination for chilli. Application of 100% RDF (160 : 30 : 30 kg ha-1) proved inferior in respect of growth and yield of chilli.

[CABBAGE (Brassica olacea var. capitata) GROWTH AND YIELD AFFECTED BY COMBINATION OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC FERTILIZER APPLICATIONS]. The use of organic fertilizer increasingly sought by farmers due to the increase in demand for organic products by consumers and also awareness of the sustainability of the land. The use of organic fertilizers in the cultivation alone could improve the soil quality but needs to be balanced with inorganic fertilizers to meet the nutrient adequacy. This study aims to examine the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers combination on the growth and cabbage yield, and also to determine the most efficient dosage combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers. This research was conducted at the IPB Pasir Sarongge Experimental Station, Cianjur, West Java from November 2020 to February 2021. The study was compiled using RCBD with 4 replications and 7 treatments. The results showed the combination of 0.75 doses of inorganic fertilizer (150 kg/ha of urea, 75 kg/ha SP36, and 75 kg/ha KCl) and 3 tons/ha of organic fertilizer could increase 14.87 to 15.44% plant height and the number of leaves at 12.82 -15.11% compared to the same dose of inorganic fertilizer treatment alone. The combination of 1 dose (200 kg/ha of urea, 100 kg/ha SP36, and 100 kg/ha KCl) inorganic fertilizer application and 2 tonnes/ha of organic fertilizer could increase 50,60% yield/plot and yield/ha cabbage than 1 dose of inorganic fertilizer treatment..

The effect of lime and fertilizer application, as the management of soil acidity, on the growth and yield of rice cv. BRRI dhan50 was investigated during Aman rice season at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. The experiment was consisted of two factors namely lime and fertilizer. There were four levels of lime (0, 0.50, 1.00, and 1.50 t ha–1 of CaCO3.MgCO3) and three levels of fertilizers (control, FYM @ 10 t ha–1, and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications where the unit plot size was 4.0 m x 2.5 m. Growth parameters, yield components and yield of BRRIdhan 50 rice increased with increasing lime rate in association of fertilizer in acidic soil. The highest grain yield (2.90 t ha–1) was recorded from the application of 1.50 t ha–1 lime and the lowest (2.06 t ha–1) was from control (0t ha–1), irrespective of fertilizer. On the other hand, the best effect of fertilizers on grain yield (3.08 t ha–1) was found with the application of FYM @ 10 t ha–1 and the lowest yield (1.59 t ha–1) was in control. The treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and FYM (@ 10 t ha–1 produced the highest grain yield (3.60 t ha–1), which was followed by treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn (3.28 t ha–1). Additionally, application of lime and FYM improved the soil fertility and properties of acidic soil for crop production by increasing the pH, organic matter and availability of some essential nutrients. From the study, it was indicated that both FYM and lime could affect to enhance the grain yield of rice in acidic soil. J. Bangladesh Agril. Univ. 16(3): 357–365, December 2018
