This study aimed at determination of vitamin (A, E, C, β-carotene, and lycopene), phenolic, and flavonoid contents in apricots at different stages of ripening using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The effect of ripening in terms of phytochemical contents was investigated. Early period apricots showed 2.5 to three times higher level of vitamins (A, E, C, and β-carotene, and lycopene) in all types of apricots than others (P < 0.05). Early-ripened cultivar, Boccuia, showed the highest level of vitamins, although a higher level of vitamin C was measured in late-ripened cultivar Levent (P < 0.05). No lycopenes were determined in late-period apricots in contrary to early- and middle-period apricots. Levels of phenolics and flavonoids were measured in all types (3-B-Q-D, procyanidin B1, B2, B3, caffeic acid, gallic acid, p-coumaric acid, epigallocatechine, catechine, epictechine, chlorogenic acid, ferrulic acid, and routine) and statistical deviation of all types was noted (P < 0.05). Among all, the cultivar Özal showed the highest level of chlorogenic acid (45,843.00 μg·g−1 dry matter) in all ripening periods, where middle-ripened cultivar Adilcevaz showed the lowest level of p-coumaric acid (7.93 μg·g−1 dry matter content base).

Abstract This research was focused on the evaluation of selected parameters of coffee quality, regarding the beverage preparation method, using high-performance liquid chromatography. Samples of Coffea arabica from South America were analyzed. For the preparation of the final beverage were used filtration and moka methods. All samples roasted at medium dark roasting level Full City ++, contained less than 5% of moisture. The values of pH and dry matter content did not show a significant difference. The lowest content of chlorogenic acid reached value (1.41 g·100 g−1) prepared from filtration and 1.49 g·100 g−1 prepared from moka method. The highest content of chlorogenic acid ranged from 2.94 g. 100 g−1 filtration method and 3.36 g. 100 g−1 moka. Similarly, caffeine content, showed lower values using the filtration method. Values ranged from 1.37 to 1.57% (filtration) and from 1.54 to 1.78% (moka). However, PCA didn’t show a significant difference.

ABSTRACT Sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas) is a root crop grown in many countries. This tuberous root is a source of energy, nutrients, and phytochemicals. In this study, bioactive compounds and physical and physicochemical qualities of sweetpotato genotypes were evaluated. Eight new genotypes of sweetpotato produced by Embrapa Hortaliças (orange-fleshed: MD09026-OF and MD09024-OF; cream-fleshed: MD09011-CF, MD09004-CF, MD10039-CF, and MD10004-CF; yellow-fleshed: MD09017-YF and MD12002-YF) and two cultivars used as controls (Beauregard and Brazlândia Roxa) were evaluated for color, soluble solids, dry matter, phenolic compounds, total carotenoids and β-carotene. Hue angles differed even between those sweetpotatoes with the same flesh color. The orange-fleshed genotypes MD09024-OF, MD09026-OF, and Beauregard, had the lowest L*, showing to be darker than the others. These sweetpotatoes also had the brightest flesh colors with higher C*. The orange-fleshed genotypes MD09026-OF and MD09024-OF were sweeter (10.55oBrix and 9.23oBrix) than Beauregard (5.12oBrix). Brazlândia Roxa had the highest dry matter content (38.05%), followed by the genotypes MD10004-CF, MD09017-YF, MD09026-OF MD10039-CF, and MD09011-CF, which showed similarity, ranging from 32.33% to 29.12%. The highest contents of total carotenoids were found for the orange-fleshed genotypes MD09026-OF (80.06 mg g-1) and MD09024-OF (70.56 mg g-1) and Beauregard (73.12 mg g-1). These same genotypes showed the highest total phenolic compounds (0.815 mg g-1 and 0.686 mg g-1, respectively). MD09026-OF showed the highest content of β-carotene (46.47 mg g-1). MD09026-OF was the most prominent genotype among those evaluated, as it showed the highest total carotenoid, β-carotene, phenolic compounds, and soluble solids content, in addition to a high dry matter content.

Roots of orange-fleshed sweet potato varieties currently available in Nigeria contain high quantities of β-carotene or pro-vitamin A but have high moisture content. These varieties have been found to be a cheap and crucially important remedy for vitamin A deficiency. The cream or white-fleshed varieties, on the other hand, have a sweet taste with high dry matter content, giving a dry texture, a quality trait preferred in Nigeria. Development of sweet potato genotypes that can combine these two important quality traits is the objective of this breeding work. A diallel experiment using six parental sweet potato genotypes crossed in all possible combinations were carried out and thirty progenies were evaluated for beta carotene (β-carotene) and dry matter content in Landmark University, Omu Aran, Kwara State, Nigeria. The 30 F1 progenies along with their parental lines were planted in the same field trial. The trial was laid out in 6 x 6 triple lattice in two replications. Highly significant (P≤ 0.01) differences were observed among the genotypes for the traits. The average β-carotene content among the progenies was 2.86 (mg/100g.f.w) while the dry matter cttgontent had a mean value of 31.89%. The cross progenies 199024.2 x Excel had the highest beta carotene (14.37mg/100g.f.w) content with the highest dry matter content (40.10%) and are therefore recommended for further evaluation.

The quality of a product is determined by numerous characteristics. As quality characteristics are polygenic, they cannot be improved easily. Moreover, there often is a negative correlation between the different parameters in the case of apricot. The firmness of fruits decreases with increasing size. The year effect also has a great influence on the expression of the potential quality of the given cultivar.Our examinations were carried out in 2004 at Boldogkőváralja, in the cold storage plant of the Northcot Ltd. We monitored the development of fruits from fructification until harvest, and also the quality changes during storage. 100 fruits were observed from each cultivar directly after harvest. We measured height, width, weight, firmness, dry matter content and seed weight. From each cultivar, 100 fruits were stored, of which 25 fruits were observed each week. The value and the dynamics of the changes in the parameters compared to the values at harvest varied greatly for the different cultivars. Strong correlations between the parameters have not been found within one cultivar either. The heavier fruits did not lose more weight, either in absolute value or relatively, than the lighter fruits. The increase in the firmness of fruits was not accompanied with a desirable decrease in the dry matter content.

Abstract The research aims to identify the adaptability some Cilembu sweet potato clones in the highland region of Papua and to determine consumer responses to sweet potato clones Cilembu. The activities carried out in Jayawijaya and Yahukimo. The experiment were 10 cultivars / clones of yams consisting of 6 (six) clones Cilembu and four (4) local sweet potato clones of each: UP-UM 1 (V1), UP-UM 4 (V2), UP-UM 5 (V3), UP-UM 6 (V4), UP-UM 9 (V5), Rancung (V6), Papua Salosa (V7), Helaleke (V8), Cangkuang (V9), and Weayuken (V10). The experiment were conducted on two districts with a height above sea level (asl) different namely Jayawijaya (1550 m asl) and Yakuhimo (2000 m). Assessment was laid out using a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The assessment results in districts Jayawijaya shows that, clones Cilembu UP-UM1, UP-UM 5, UP-UM 6, UP-UM 9, and Rancung, as well as varieties lonkal Papua Salosa compounds containing β-carotene / Antocianin shown from yellow / orange / purple. In the district of Jayawijaya, average tuber longest and largest bulb diameter produced by local variety Cangkuang. But the number of tubers were generated by clones Cilembu UP-UM 5. Productivity and highs of 10 varieties / clones were studied both in Jayawiya and Yakohimo is Cangkuang (23.59 t / ha), while the highest dry matter content produced by clone up- UM 4. Production of dry matter produced by the highest Weayuken varieties. The results of the chemical analysis of the highest protein content produced by clone UP-6 and UP-UM UM 9; The highest content of starch and amylose varieties produced by Cangkuang; The highest content of reducing sugar produced by clone UP-6 and UP-UM UM 9; The highest content of β-carotene produced by UP-UM 5; and the highest content of vitamin C is produced by UP-UM 6.

<p>It was established that in the progeny of quail obtained from the parent herd, which during the growing period was fed as a source of microelements a complex of glycinates of copper, zinc, manganese, iron and cobalt with microbial β-carotene at a dose corresponding to the physiological requirement during the growing period increased the content of iron in eggs by 22,4 % compared to the control, and by 18,9 % compared to quails fed with chelates of microelements and β-carotene at a dose corresponding to half the daily requirement.</p><p>The concentration of zinc in the quail eggs of this group increased by 16,5 % compared to the control and by 21 % compared to the analogous parameters for the quails of the second experimental group, manganese by 17,4 % and 19 4 %. The increase in the content of iron, zinc and manganese in the quail eggs which feeding complex of glycinate of microelements and β-carotene, at a dose amounting to a daily requirement, indicates their high bioavailability in the digestive apparatus of the bird, their intensive absorption and accumulation in the eggs.</p><p>It was proved that the content of iron, zinc and manganese in the eggs of quail, which feeding a complex of glycinate of microelements and β-carotene at a dose corresponding to half the daily requirement of the bird, was at the control level, which indicates sufficient provision of its body with these elements.</p><p>The data obtained when feeding the complex of chelating compounds of microelements and microbial β-carotene to quails indicate an intensification of the conversion of β-carotene to retinol and an increase in the content of the latter in eggs of the quail by 19,7 %. Feeding quails of the complex of glycinate of microelements in a dose corresponding to their needs contributed to an increase in the dry matter content in the shell of the quail eggs by 2,13 % due to an increase in the ash content by 2,3 %, calcium by 0,83 %, zinc by 30,1% and manganese - by 26,5 %. Feeding quails half the daily requirement of chelates of trace elements contributed to sufficient provision of their body with these elements. The conducted studies testify to the absence of toxic effect of chelating compounds of microelements (glycinates of copper, zinc, manganese, iron and cobalt) on the quail organism, sufficient assimilation from feeds both at doses corresponding to demand, and in doses that make up half of it due to increased bioavailability in the tissues.</p>

The dry matter and moisture contents of the aboveground vegetative organs and kernels of four maize hybrids were studied in Martonvásár at five harvest dates, with four replications per hybrid. The dry matter yield per hectare of the kernels and other plant organs were investigated in order to obtain data on the optimum date of harvest for the purposes of biogas and silage production.It was found that the dry mass of the aboveground vegetative organs, both individually and in total, did not increase after silking. During the last third of the ripening period, however, a significant reduction in the dry matter content was sometimes observed as a function of the length of the vegetation period. The data suggest that, with the exception of extreme weather conditions or an extremely long vegetation period, the maximum dry matter yield could be expected to range from 22–42%, depending on the vegetation period of the variety. The harvest date should be chosen to give a kernel moisture content of above 35% for biogas production and below 35% for silage production. In this phenophase most varieties mature when the stalks are still green, so it is unlikely that transport costs can be reduced by waiting for the vegetative mass to dry.

Цель исследований – дать оценку сохраняемости и болезнеустойчивости современных сортов и гибридов моркови столовой и определить корреляционные зависимости влияния биохимических показателей качества на сохраняемость и степень поражения моркови столовой различными видами болезней в процессе хранения. Исследования проводились в 2011–2016 годах во ВНИИО – филиале ФГБНУ ФНЦО по общепринятым методикам. В биохимической лаборатории отдела земледелия и агрохимии содержание сухого вещества определяли высушиванием до абсолютно сухого веса, общего сахара – по Бертрану, аскорбиновой кислоты – по Мурри, нитраты – ионоселективным методом. При характеристике моркови столовой важнейший показатель, определяющий его качество – количество сухого вещества и сахаров. В процессе хранения были выявлены следующие болезни моркови: серая гниль (Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex Fr.), белая гниль (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.)), белая парша (Rhizoctonia carotae Rad.), альтернариоз (Alternaria radicina M., Dr. et E.). В большей степени сортообразцы моркови столовой поражались серой гнилью. Лучшими по сохраняемости сортообразцами были Корсар (94,6%), F1Берлин (94,5%), Берликум Роял (94,1%) и F1 Звезда (94%). Сохраняемость у зарубежных сортов и гибридов моркови столовой была немного выше, чем у отечественных (на 0,4%) как за счет меньшей величины убыли массы (6,3% против 6,4%), так и потерь от болезней (1,6% против 1,9%). Сохраняемость корнеплодов моркови находится в прямой корреляционной зависимости от содержания сухого вещества (r=+0,41), каротиноидов (r=+0,39), моносахаров (r­=+0,30) и суммы сахаров (r=+0,27). Проявление серой гнили находится в обратной корреляционной связи с содержанием сухого вещества и каротиноидов (r=-0,37 и r=-0,35 соответственно), белой парши – в прямой корреляции с содержанием сухого вещества , моносахаров и дисахаров (r= +0,21; r= +0,39; r= -0,41 соответственно), белой гнили в обратной корреляционной связи с содержанием сухого вещества, моносахаров и дисахаров. The purpose of the research is to assess the persistence and disease resistance of modern varieties and hybrids of carrots and to determine the correlation between the influence of biochemical quality indicators on the persistence and degree of damage to carrots by various types of diseases during storage. The research was conducted in 2011–2016 at ARRIVG – branch of FSBSI FSVC, according to generally accepted methods. In the biochemical laboratory of the Department of Agriculture and Agrochemistry, the dry matter content was determined by drying to absolutely dry weight, total sugar – by Bertran, ascorbic acid – by Murri, nitrates – by the ion-selective method. When describing carrots, the most important indicator that determines its quality is the amount of dry matter and sugars. During storage, the following diseases of carrots were detected: gray rot (Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex Fr.), white rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.), white scab (Rhizoctonia carotae Rad.), alternariasis (Alternaria radicina M., Dr. et E.). To a greater extent, varieties of table carrots were affected by gray rot. The best preserved varieties were Corsar (94.6%), F1 Berlin (94.5%), Berlicum Royal (94.1%) and F1 Zvezda (94%). The persistence of foreign varieties and hybrids of table carrots was slightly higher than that of domestic ones by 0.4%. both due to a smaller amount of weight loss (6.3% vs. 6.4%) and losses from diseases (1.6% vs. 1.9%). The persistence of carrot root crops is directly correlated with the content of dry matter (r=+0.41), carotenoids (r=+0.39), monosaccharides (r=+0.30) and the amount of sugars (r=+0.27). The manifestation of gray rot is in inverse correlation with the content of dry matter and carotenoids (r=-0.37 and r=-0.35, respectively), white scab is in direct correlation with the content of dry matter (r= +0.21; r= +0.39; r= –0.41, respectively), white rot is in inverse correlation with the content of dry matter, monosaccharides and disaccharides.
