Selecting supplemental nitrogen (N) fertilizer for use on certified organic farms can be difficult and confusing. There are many options commercially available to farmers with similar N concentrations but widely different ingredients. Experiments were conducted in a certified organic field and high tunnels near Fort Collins, CO in 2013 and 2014 to evaluate the impact of organic fertilizers on yield and nutrient concentrations of three kale (Brassica oleracea and Brassica napus) cultivars. This study includes an organic fertilizer (cyano-fertilizer), which is produced on-farm by growing N-fixing cyanobacteria (Anabaena cylindrica) in raceway ponds. The three fertilizer treatments were hydrolyzed fish emulsion, alfalfa (Medicago sativa) meal, and cyano-fertilizer. These were applied at rates calculated by subtracting soil nitrate concentration from a target 50 mg·kg−1 to the depth of 6 inches of soil. Cyano-fertilizer and hydrolyzed fish emulsion were applied in liquid form, while the alfalfa meal was incorporated dry into the soil before planting. Biweekly measurements of plant height were taken on three cultivars of kale: Dinosaur, Red Russian, and Winterbor. Leaf weight, leaf area, and N, iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) concentrations were measured during three to four monthly harvests each year. Organized in a split-plot experimental design, there were three treatment replications with subplots of different kale cultivars. Fertilizer treatment did not significantly affect plant height, leaf weight, leaf area, or plant N, Fe, and Zn concentrations. However, there were cultivar differences in plant height, leaf area, and yield. Kale cultivar choice had a larger impact on yield and plant nutrient concentrations than fertilizer choice, because fertilizers were applied at similar N rates.

The productivity of forage depends on the availability of nutrients in the soil where it is grown, so fertilization to replace harvested produce is absolutely necessary. This study aims to study the response of gamal and indigofera forage on application of inorganic and organic fertilizers. Research using a completely randomized design factorial pattern of two factors, the first factor is the type of plant (G = Gamal; I = Indigofera) and the second factor is the type of fertilizer (T = without Fertilizer; A = Inorganic fertilizer NPK; K = commercial organic fertilizer; O = conventional organic fertilizer; B = bioorganic fertilizer), repeated 4 times so that it consists of 40 experimental units. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, total dry weight of leaves, ratio of dry weight of leaves/stems and leaf area per pot. The results showed that there was no interaction between plant species and types of fertilizer in influencing the response of gamal and indigofera plants. Plant species have a significant effect on stem diameter, while fertilizer types have a significant effect on plant height, leaf dry weight, total dry weight of leaves and leaf area per pot. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the response of gamal plants is similar to indigofera, all types of fertilizers can improve the response of plants and organic fertilizers produce the same crop response with inorganic fertilizers. Dahlias have a high potential for development in West Sumatra Province. This is based on a number of cities in West Sumatra such as Bukit Tinggi and Agam Regency which have designated themselves as "The City of Dahlia" to develop the potential of this biological resource. The objectives to be achieved in this study are: (1) to determine the effect of various types of planting media that are good for growth and quality of flowers on dahlia plants. (2) to determine the effect of various types of liquid organic fertilizer which is good for growth and flower quality in dahlia plants. (3) to determine the interaction of various types of planting media and liquid organic fertilizer types on the growth and quality of flowers in seruni plants. This research was conducted from July to October 2019 in Kudu Baki Sukoharjo, Central Java, with a height of 100 meters above sea level. The experiments were arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consisted of two factors and three replications. Kinds of Planting Media (M) consist of 4 levels, namely: top soil, husk charcoal, bamboo leaf humus, and fern. Liquid Organic Fertilizer (P) consists of 3 levels, namely: IN Grow, GDM, and Grow more. The results showed that the treatment of organic fertilizer in Grow Grow and rice husk charcoal growing media showed the highest results significantly for all observations, namely plant height, leaf area, flower appearance, flower diameter, tuber diameter and harvest age. Growmore fertilizer treatment and top soil planting media showed the lowest results significantly for all observed parameters, namely plant height, leaf area, flower appearance, harvest age, flower diameter and plant shelf life. There was no interaction between the treatment types of the planting media and the types of liquid organic fertilizer on all observational parameters.

This study aimed to analyze the benefits of providing liquid and organic fertilizers and to determine the dosage of the liquid organic fertilizer and mixed fertilizers on growth and yield of waxy corn (Zea mays var. ceratina). The study was conducted in August to November 2017 in the Wailete, Wayame Village, Teluk Ambon Subdistrict, with alluvial soil types. The experiment used factorial experiments in a randomized block design with three replications. The first factor was liquid organic fertilizer with four levels, namely: C0 = Control, C1 = 10 mL/L of water, C2 = 20 mL/L of water, C3 = 30 mL/L of water. The second factor is NPK DGW (M) mixed fertilizer with three levels, namely: M0 = Control, M1 = 2.5 g/plant, M2 = 5 g/plant. The parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, ear length, dry ear weight, 100 dry seed weight, dry kernel weight. The data from the study were analyzed using the analysis of variance method and continued with a mean difference test, according to Duncan Multiple Range Test. The treatment of liquid organic fertilizer significantly affected the observation parameters at 2, 3 and 4 weeks after planting (WAP), including ear length, dry ear weight, 100 seeds dry weight, dry kernels weight;  however, there were no significant effects on plant height at 5 and 6 WAP and leaf number at 2, 4 and 6 WAP. The mixed fertilizer treatment had significant effects on plant height at 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 MST, leaf number at 2, 4 and 6 WAP, ear length, dry ear weight, 100 seeds dry weight and dry kernel weight. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus sampai dengan November 2017 di Dusun Wailete, Desa Wayame, Kecamatan Teluk Ambon Baguala, dengan jenis tanah aluvial. Percobaan menggunakan percobaan faktorial dalam rancangan acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama pupuk organik cair dengan empat taraf, yaitu: C0 = Kontrol, C1 = 10 mL/L air, C2 = 20 mL/L air, C3 = 30 mL/L air. Faktor ke dua pupuk majemuk NPK DGW (M) dengan tiga taraf, yaitu : M0 = Kontrol, M1 = 2,5 g/tanaman, M2 = 5 g/tanaman. Parameter yang diamati yaitu tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, panjang tongkol, berat tongkol kering, berat kering 100 biji, berat Pipilan kering. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode analisis of varians dan dilanjutkan dengan uji beda rataan menurut jarak berganda Duncan. Perlakuan pupuk oragnik cair berpengaruh nyata pada parameter tinggi tanaman pada 2, 3 dan 4 MST, panjang tongkol, berat tongkol kering, berat kering 100 biji, berat Pipilan kering, berpengaruh tidak nyata pada tinggi tanaman 5 dan 6 MST dan jumlah daun pada 2, 4 dan 6 MST. Perlakuan pupuk majemuk memberikan pengaruh yang nyata pada parameter tinggi tanaman pada 2, 3, 4, 5 dan 6 MST, jumlah daun pada  2, 4 dan 6 MST, panjang tongkol, berat tongkol kering, berat kering 100 biji dan berat pipilan kering. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological and growth responses of watermelon under application of NPK rates using different proportions of mineral and organic fertilizers. The experiment was taken place in an area located at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Campus Pombal - PB (6º48'16'' S and 37º49'15'' W), during the period from June to September 2013. The treatments consisted of three nutrient concentrations of N, P and K (50, 100 and 150% of NPK recommendation for watermelon) and five proportions of mineral and organic fertilizer (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 to 0/100). The design was a randomized block in factorial scheme 3 x 5, with four replications. The amount of 100 % was the corresponding NPK 120 kg ha-1, respectively, for N, P and K. They were evaluated: gas exchange, leaf dry matter, stem, fruit and leaf area. The concentration of 150 % of the recommended NPK to the culture of watermelon was the most effective in increasing the physiological characteristics and dry matter accumulation in stem, leaf, fruit, and leaf area. The combined application of mineral and organic fertilizer provides equivalent photosynthetic rate isolated application of mineral fertilizer with an 50/50 ratio the most effective for this variable. The proportions 75/25 and 50/50 were the most efficient in dry matter accumulation in watermelon.

Abstract This study aims to analyse the effect of three types of organic fertilizers on the vegetative growth several varieties of soybeans. This study used a factorial randomized block design with two treatment factors, namely organic fertilizers and varieties. The first factor is: organic fertilizer from 3 levels, namely: K1 (1.5 kg of compost), K2 (1.5 kg of goat manure), and K3 (1.5 kg of chicken manure). The second factor is: soybean plant varieties consist of 4 levels, namely: V1 (Dena 1), V2 (Devon 1), V3 (Anjasmoro) and V4 (Derap 1). The parameters observed were plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, amount of chlorophyll, leaf area, and flowering age. The results of our research is organic fertilizers have a significant effect and are able to increase the growth of soybean plants except for leaf area and flowering age. Types of varieties had a significant effect and were able to increase plant height, number of branches, leaf area, and flowering age, but had no significant effect on the parameters of the number of leaves and the amount of chlorophyll. Moreover, there isn't interaction effect between the two treatments for all parameters.

This study was conducted at the nursery of Agricultural Research Station, Agriculture College, University of Basrah, Qarmat Ali campus, at the agricultural season 2018-2019. The Experiment was conducted using Randomized Complete Block Design (R.C.B.D), with two factors, the First factor was organic fertilizer (ALGAZON) with three concentrations (0, 1.5 and 3) ml. L-1, the Second factor was dry yeast extract in three concentrations (0, 3 and 6) g. L-1, by five sprinkles one month between them and a five-day difference between the factors. The results showed that spraying with organic fertilizer (Algazon) at a concentration of 3 ml.L-1, led to a significant increase on the plant height, the main stem diameter, leaf area, main branches number, the fresh and dry weight of the leaves, the dry matter percentage of the leaves, the percentage of oil, the oil yield in the plant, the productivity of volatile per hectare, specific weight and the density of the oil. Sprinkle with dry yeast extract at 6 g. L-1, resulted a significant increase in all vegetative parameters studied and oil yield. The interaction between the organic fertilizers (ALGAZON) spraying treatments was 3 ml. L-1 and dry yeast extract 6 g. L-1, were a significant effect, led to an increase in plant height, the main stem diameter, leaf area, the branches number , Fresh and dry weight of the leaves and the percentage of dry matter, the percentage of oil, Yield oil in plant, productivity of volatile per hectare, refractive index, specific weight and the density of the oil.

Bio-stimulators are organic products that have been found to enhance crop growth and productivity through mitigating against biotic and abiotic stresses. Four Cowpea varieties namely K80, M66, KVU 27-1 and Kenya Kunde; commercially released & adopted by local households for vegetable production were used to evaluate the impact of bio-stimulators on growth and leaf yield of cowpea in Juja and Katumani from May to July, 2013. The treatments were arranged in a factorial structure, laid out in an RCBD, which were combination of 9 levels of bio-stimulators, with the 4 cowpea varieties planted per site, and giving a total of 36 treatments for each site replicated 3 times. The plots measured 2.5m by 2.5m with spacing of 60cm by 20cm. Parameters under investigation included germination rate, days to germination, plant height, and number of leaves produced and number of nodules formed. Cultural practices such as weeding and pest control were done as need arose. The results showed that there were significant differences in days to germination, germination rate, plant population, chlorophyll levels, leaf weight, plant height and leaf area but not in leaf area between Juja and Katumani. Earliest germination and highest leaf weight were in Katumai whereas highest plant population, germination rate and chlorophyll levels and leaf area were in Juja. Humates improved germination rate, plant height, leaf weight and nodule development in Juja while seaweed extracts improved days to germination, germination rate, plant height, leaf yield, leaf weight and nodule formation in Katumani. Interaction between site and bio-stimulators was recorded in germination rate, days to germination, plant population and in number of leaves produced. Therefore bio-stimulators should be adopted in production of cowpea leaves particularly offseason for food & nutritional security and increasing household incomes in Kenya

Fertilizer is one of the most important needs for plants. Fertilizing can be done by using inorganic fertilizers or organic fertilizers. Long term fertilizing by using inorganic fertilizers without adding the organic matter could potentially reduce soil fertility and lead to not optimal growth of the plant. This study aims to determine the effect of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) made from rabbit urine, NPK fertilizer, and the combination of both fertilizers on the growth of bok choy, and to determine the best fertilizer dosage for the growth of bok choy. This study uses a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 2 factors, the dose of rabbit urine LOF and dose of NPK fertilizer; 4 dosage levels each in triplicates. Data was analyzed using ANOVA followed by DMRT Test. The results indicates that the application of LOF made from rabbit urine, NPK fertilizer, and the combination of both fertilizers increases  plant height, leaves number, leaf area, wet weight, dry weight, and chlorophyll total of bok choy. DMRT (a 5%) test shows the best dosage applied for enhancing growth parameter are 6 ml of LOF plus 0,4 gram of NPK for plant height, wet weight, and dry weight, the 4 ml of LOF plus 0,6 gram of NPK for leaves number and leaf area, and the 4 ml of LOF plus 0,4 gram NPK for chlorophyll total.

Two species of mint Mentha piperitha (peppermint) and M. arvensis (Japanese mint) are widely cultivated in Iran, but their response to fertilizer regime has not been evaluated so far. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different organic and chemical fertilizer treatments [Control, 100% urea (95 kg N ha−1), 75% urea (71.25 kg N ha-1) + 25% vermicompost (3.3 t ha-1), 50% urea (47.5 kg N ha-1) + 50% vermicompost (6.75 t ha-1), 25% urea (23.75 kg N ha-1) + 75% vermicompost (10.1 t ha-1) and 100% vermicompost (13.5 ton ha-1)] on essential oil contents, yield and yield components of the two species of mint. Peppermint provided grater plant height, number of internodes, number of leaf and oil percentage compared with the Japanese mint under study. The results indicated that, irrespective of the mint species, plants treated with combined chemical and organic fertilizer presented taller plants, higher oil contents and oil yield compared with solo chemical or organic fertilizers. Oil percentage and essential oil yield of mint increased significantly under the treatment with 25% urea (23.75 kg N ha−1) + 75% vermicompost (10.1 t ha-1). Plant height and number of leaf increased along the replacement of organic fertilizer with chemical fertilizers. The results showed that there was a positive and significant correlation with leaf number and essential oil yield. Application of vermicompost in combination with chemical fertilizer increased plant height, oil percentage and essential oil in both species, suggesting that organic and chemical fertilizer combination improves performance and environmental sustainability.

Soybean is known for its high protein content, which is the reason why it is widely used as one of the main food sources for humans and animals. In order to optimize soybean growth, farmers tend to add excessive dosage of chemical fertilizer to this crop. Furthermore, a continuous chemical fertilizer application without organic fertilizer addition may cause a rapid depletion of nutrients in the soil. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of organic fertilizer treatment to reduce the amount of urea as chemical fertilizer needed in soybean cultivation. A complete randomized design was conducted using 21 treatments of organic and chemical fertilizer in triplicate with a 4x3 m plot size. Analysis of variance was carried out to compare the means of measurement data and Duncan multiple range test (DMRT 5%) was applied. The treatment 2,000 kg ha-1 compost + 50 kg ha-1 urea (O2K2A1) resulted the highest dry yield in soybean and had significant differences with urea-only treatment. A mixture of chemical and organic fertilizers had no significant result over the yield compared to the use of chemical fertilizer only. Compost application of 1,000-2,000 kg ha-1 with urea 50-100 kg ha-1 (O2K2A1 and O 2K1A2) showed an increase in seed yield of 35-38 % with a profit reaching 333-340 USD ha-1 compared to standard treatment using urea 50 kg ha -1 + SP-36 50 kg ha-1 + 50 KCl kg ha-1 (O0K0A1).
