Abstract A large number of empirical studies have found evidence that neuroticism is related to personality traits, but no one has integrated the relationship between neuroticism and mental health through meta-analysis. As a personality trait, neuroticism reflects the stable tendency of how individuals experience, feel, evaluate negative emotions and make corresponding behavioural responses. By means of meta-analysis, a preliminary dimension of neuroticism is constructed through an open questionnaire and literature review. On this basis, a preliminary neuroticism questionnaire for college students is compiled. The structural model of College Students' neuroticism questionnaire fits well, and has a high correlation with the neuroticism subscale of the simple version of Big Five Personality Questionnaire, which shows that it has a good structural validity. The positive orientation indicators of subjective well-being, life satisfaction and other mental health indicators were also selected. In addition, self-assessment indicators of physical health were selected. It was found that neuroticism was highly correlated with appeal indicators, indicating that the questionnaire of College Students' neuroticism had good validity.

ABSTRACT: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GENDER, OPTIMISME, AND COLLEGE STUDENT SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING One indicators of college student mental health is college student subjective well-being or abbreviated CSSWB. CSSWB in college students can be influenced by several factor, including gender and optimism . This research aims to determine the relationship between gender and optimism towards college student subjective well-being. This research is a quantitative research conducted on 423 college student from semesters 4 until 8 in Bandar Lampung. Data collection in this research using college student subjective well-being scale, optimism scale likert model, and demographic data. Thdta analyzed using using multiple regression. The result show that optimism is the main predictor in exlaining CSSWB. Further research, is expected to study other variables which can also affect college student subjective well-being. Keyword : Gender, Optimism, College Student Subjective Well-being, College Student Salah satu indikator kesehatan mental mahasiswa adalah college student subjecvtive well-being atau disingkat CSSWB. CSSWB pada mahasiswa dapat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor antara lain jenis kelamin dan optimisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara jenis kelamin dan optimisme dengan college student subjective well-being. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang dilakukan pada 423 mahasiswa semester 4 sampai 8 di Bandar Lampung. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan skala College Student Subjective Well-being Questionary, skala Optimisme model likert, serta data demografi. Data dianalisis menggunakan regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan optimisme sebagai prediktor utama dalam menjelaskan college student subjective well-being. The present study has been carried out with the aim of investigating the college students mental health status (and its subscales likewise, attitude toward the self, self-actualization, integration, autonomy, perception of reality, environmental mastery), self-esteem, and subjective well-being based on their parents occupation. The sample of the study consisted of 750 college students studying in different college of Visakhapatnam city (India), selected through stratified sampling method. In order to collect data, the Mental Health status, (M.H.S. Scale) by P. Gireesan & Sananda Raj,(1988), Self-Esteem Inventory by Thomas, & Sananda Raj, and Subjective Well-Being Inventory, by Suhany, B, T &Sananda Raj, (2002) and personal information schedule, were used. The data were analyzed using One way ANOVA as well as Duncan test. The result indicated that College students, whose; their father’s Occupation comes in Semi professional category had higher level of mental health, self-actualization, integration, perception of reality, and environmental mastery than others. College students, whose; their father’s Occupation comes in High professional category had higher level of subjective well-being than others. College students, whose; their Mother’s Occupation comes in semi professional category had more mental health, self-actualization, perception of reality, than others. College students, whose; their Mother’s Occupation comes in High professional category had more integration, and environmental mastery than others.

Traditional mental health models focus on psychopathological symptoms. In contrast, a dual-factor model of mental health integrates psychopathology and subjective well-being into a mental health continuum, and it is adjustment and supplement for traditional mental health research paradigm. The present study explores the applicability of a dual-factor model of mental health in mental health screening of Chinese college students. To assess mental health statuses of 2,065 college students, we used Flourishing Scale Chinese Version, Satisfaction With Life Scale, the seven-item Patient Health Questionnaire, the Mental Health Continuum–Short Form, and Purpose in Life Test–Short Form. Results showed that the dual-factor model of mental health has a good fit index. Also, a feasible screening scale was addressed. The results indicate the importance of addressing both subjective well-being and psychopathology in evaluating mental health screening of college students.

AbstractThe spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected both physical health and mental well-being around the world. Stress-related reactions, if prolonged, may result in mental health problems. We examined the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health in a multinational study and explored the effects of government responses to the outbreak. We sampled 18,171 community adults from 35 countries/societies, stratified by age, gender, and region of residence. Across the 35 societies, 26.6% of participants reported moderate to extremely severe depression symptoms, 28.2% moderate to extremely severe anxiety symptoms, and 18.3% moderate to extremely severe stress symptoms. Coronavirus anxiety comprises two factors, namely Perceived Vulnerability and Threat Response. After controlling for age, gender, and education level, perceived vulnerability predicted higher levels of negative emotional symptoms and psychological distress, whereas threat response predicted higher levels of self-rated health and subjective well-being. People in societies with more stringent control policies had more threat response and reported better subjective health. Coronavirus anxiety exerts detrimental effects on subjective health and well-being, but also has the adaptive function in mobilizing safety behaviors, providing support for an evolutionary perspective on psychological adaptation.
