Integrity is very important for a leader. When a leader does not have integrity, then, sooner or later it will destroy the group or organization s/he leads. This occurs because the policies, decisions, attitudes, and actions made by the leader will have wide impact to the organization. A leader will be the center of attention of the members, and whatever they see in her/him will have a huge impact on the organization as a whole. Integrity has been given a lot of meaning; and everything is interconnected, which essentially refers to one's personal qualities, which make a person trustworthy and reliable. In the world of work, integrity appears in the form of good work performance or results. To be able to produce a good performance it is necessary to have competence. With integrity possessed the competence can be directed to produce a good performance. The problem that occurs is a lack of understanding of the relationship between integrity and performance. Generally, they are both understood separately, as stand-alone. But in reality the integrity is manifested through good performance. This applies also to a leader, which results a good performance in implementing ethical leadership. The purpose of this paper is to outline the relationship between integrity and performance, in which competence plays an important role. Integrity is the foundation for leadership, which makes it able to run and produce ethical leadership performance.

Background: Workload may indirectly cause stress. The ability to manage work stress may affect staff’s motivation and performance. The staff performance will affect decision-making in improving the service quality. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between stress management, work motivation and work performance. Method: This was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 19 medical record staff, working at Prof. Dr. R Soeharso orthopedic hospital Surakarta, were selected for this study. A set of questionnaires were developed and administered to measure stress management, work motivation and work performance. Data were then analyzed with a bivariate correlation analysis. Results: There were statistically significant correlations between work stress management, work motivation and work performance. The ability to manage stress positively increased the motivation (r= 0,56; p= 0,013), as well as the work performance (r= 0,49; p= 0,036). Moreover, a higher motivation will lead to a higher performance (r= 0,42; p= 0,071). Conclusion: There were positive relationships between work stress management, work motivation and work performance. Key words: work stress management, motivation, performance.

This paper adopts a feminist poststructuralist approach to demonstrate the ambiguities and complexities which exist in the relationship between work and subject. Recent studies in organizational sociology have argued that the discourses of work, and changing working cultures, have had a powerful effect on the production of subjectivities. New forms of working behaviour have been constructed as desirable, which often draw on personal qualities such as gender. This paper draws on research conducted with doctors and nurses in the British National Health Service to reveal the ambiguities which exist in the ways in which individuals position themselves in relation to these discourses. The discourses of work and organization are constantly mediated through, and destabilised by, the intertextuality that exists with competing discourses such as those of professionalism, gender, home and performance. Although organizational discourses are clearly powerful in the construction and performance of subjectivities, the interplay between discourses means that these are constantly destabilised and undermined.

The dramatic text defines, to some extent, the structure of the work but the type of performance and the physical approach to the text can represent different meanings. The body of the actor, as a means of conveying concepts from the text to the audience, can be effective in creating different interpretations and meanings of the text. Since eons ago, directors have used the body of the actor with different approaches, and the application of body on the stage has always been underdoing changes. Anne Bogart is one of the few directors who is less known in the Iranian theater despite possessing the most updated and well-known methods of practice and performance in the world. Using her viewpoint method, she brings live and dynamic bodies to the stage; bodies that are able to convey the hidden meanings of the text to the audience in the most suitable way. The overall purpose of this research is to find the relationship between the dramatic text and the performance with the centrality of the body with a sociological view toward the body. To this end, by presenting Foucault's theories, the researchers defines the role of the body in the society and its extent of effectivity and impressibility. Finally, this study explores the implications of this role in each element of Aeschylus’s The Persians, and it shall show how Bogart beautifully represents them using the bodies of her actors during performance.

This article describes (a) the relationship of goal setting and job enrichment with work satisfaction, intrinsic work motivation and performance, (b) the importance of growth need strength as a moderating variable, and (c) the evidence for a curvilinear association between job design variables and outcome measures. 117 penitentiary guards received the Job Diagnostic Survey of Hackman and Oldham, the Job Descriptive Index of Smith, et al., Steers' questionnaire on goal characteristics and a performance measure. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the specificity of goal and job enrichment were equally effective in the prediction of satisfaction and motivation, while difficulty of goals appears to be the best single predictor of work performance. Growth need strength moderated the relationship between difficulty of goals and work satisfaction. The curvilinear effect was nonsignificant.

An experiment was conducted to examine the relationship between endorsement of the Protestant Ethic and work performance and satisfaction. Employing an electronic sorting task with 95 subjects, the study did not confirm earlier findings of Merrens and Garrett (1975), despite high statistical power. Results question the interpretation of the Protestant Ethic scale as an indicant of work attitudes and behavior.

Abstract. This research examines the impact of personal competencies on individual work performance when performing maintenance activities and examines job specialization, formalization, and centralization as moderator variables. For the analysis, we use questionnaires data from 741 respondents of maintenance officers in the Signalling and Telecommunication Departement at PT KAI (Persero). The results showed that personal competencies significantly affecting individual work performance with a correlation value of 0.001 ( <0.05), and other results related to job Specialization and Centralization as moderator variables demonstrated that these two variables could not be treated as moderators in strengthening the relationship between personal competencies and performance. The results showed correlation value of 0.847 ( >0.05) and 0. 173 (>0.05), respectively. This research's formalization variable was not used in the hypothesis testing stage as a moderator because it lacked instrument validity. This study recommends that maintenance officers have better individual work performance when management focuses on increasing the personal competencies or focuses on increasing competencies in work fields that require special skills by the scope of work they face. This paper analyses how the main institutional factors characterizing corporate governance systems around the world affect the relationship between ownership structure and firm performance. Our analysis gives rise to the following remarks. First, ownership concentration and insider ownership levels are determined by several institutional features such as investor protection, development of capital markets, activity of the market for corporate control, and effectiveness of boards. Second, the relationship between ownership concentration and performance is not directly affected by these institutional factors. Third, there is, however, a direct influence of corporate governance characteristics on the relationship between insider ownership and performance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine relationships between perceived bullying, work engagement and work performance among Estonian academics. Specifically, it details what forms of bullying affect work engagement and performance. Moreover, the study explores the relationship between engagement and performance among bullied academics. Design/methodology/approach A total of 864 faculty members from nine Estonian universities participated in an e-mail survey in Spring 2014. Bullying was measured using the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R22), and work engagement was assessed using the nine-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. Respondents’ perceived performance and productivity were measured on a ten-point rating scale. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the relationship between bullying, engagement and performance. Findings Perceived bullying – especially “professional understating” – decreased work engagement and work performance among Estonian academics. The decrease in performance preceded the decrease in engagement or vice versa. The decrease in engagement was followed by lowered performance. Research limitations/implications A longitudinal study is needed to prove the specific one-way effect of (decreased) performance (because of perceived bullying) on engagement. Practical implications Preventing bullying and further increasing engagement and performance among Estonian academics requires getting out of policy of professional understating. Social implications The authors need to determine why Estonian academics experience professional understating, which includes being ordered to perform tasks below one’s level of competence and having key areas of responsibility removed or replaced with more trivial or unpleasant tasks. Originality/value The present results prove that it is possible to differentiate between specific forms of bullying in a specific context and further reveal those factors specifically that affect work performance and work engagement. Among Estonian academics – revealed in this study – “professional understating” seems to be such a factor.

Empowerment and the performance of the workers are associated with one another. Main purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the factors influencing the outcome factors with that of the empowerment and the performance of the employees. Data for the study has been gathered from 110 banking and 115 healthcare workers with a total of 225 employees. Organizational culture, workplace relationships, employees’ perceptions over job and the views towards the organization are the predicting factors while the empowerment and the performance are the outcome variables used for the study. Such data are analysed using correlation and multiple regression analysis. The study found significant relationship among the predictors and the outcomes of empowerment and performance. Among the inducing factors, organizational culture is identified to be the most influencing factor of empowerment and workplace relationships is considered to be the most inducing construct of the work performance. It has also been identified that the banking professionals has more empowerment and performance on the job than the hospitality employees. Suggestions such as the altering the work schedule and providing to free medical facilities for the dependents of the hospitality employees for improving the empowerment and the work performance of the healthcare workers are provided.
