PurposeInnovation is today considered a competitive differential for improving the performance of companies, and technology parks are seen as environments with favorable conditions for such innovation. The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for analyzing favorable conditions for innovation in technology parks, the innovations produced and organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachTo this end, the authors conducted bibliographic research and in-depth interviews with managers of companies based at the Tecnopuc Science and Technology Park, and managers of the park itself, to establish practical support for previous theoretical findings.FindingsAs a result, a framework was developed to link the favorable conditions for innovation, and organizational performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe analysis model proposed here synthesizes the contributions made by several scholars on the theme, allowing for a more detailed and integrated interpretation of the phenomenon, namely, the ways through which the effective development of innovation takes place in companies residing in technology parks and the contribution of innovation to the specific performance of companies.Practical implicationsThe use of the proposed framework can help direct park managers’ action towards those relationships or activities that prove to be ineffective in achieving desired goals.Originality/valueThe use of the proposed model in empirical surveys will allow for better understanding of the phenomenon involving the features of technology parks and their effects on innovation and the performance of companies installed there, considering that such parks allow them to access resources with lower transaction costs.

Women who reside in high-density informal settlements contribute significantly to community livelihood, as proportionately they spend more time in the area than other members of their community. As they assume multiple roles and responsibilities, they rely on the flexibility of space in their dense settlement to complete their various tasks. This study focuses primarily on the spaces that enable women to earn income for the household without disregarding their domestic responsibilities and social needs. This study examines the relationship between human and space by observing homemakers in one of Jakarta’s densely populated informal settlements, KampungCikini. The methodology incorporated in-depth interviews and field observations of their living and income-generating spaces. The study concludes that for homemakers, a high-density settlement is not a confinement but as a space of opportunities, mainly economic. The women that participated in this study employ spatial strategies to incorporate income-generating activities with their domestic and social life. The study emphasises the relationship between women and their settlement, with the view to influence the future development of informal settlements more inclusive for the needs of women.

Workaholism, in recent years, has become a regular behaviour pattern among professionals. While self-negligence is assumed as a hallmark of workaholism, empirical data in this case stands to be both narrow and paradoxical. Modern developments like high-speed data connections add more to this belief, as this makes it possible for employees who would like to work at any place and at any given point of time to work. Workaholism is found to affect several important domains of life. With regards to work domain, workaholics commonly seem to have poor associations with their peer/colleagues, most likely on the grounds that they often feel the need to control them and experience issues with delegating work. Given that the amount of time they invested in their work leaves little energy for them for other activities, also the social life outside work gets hampered. This chapter explores the relationship between workaholism, perceived work-related stress, different job conditions, and intensifying anxiety among IT professionals in Delhi/NCR.

The results showed that transgender santri changing their identity through the hybridity process. Mimicry process occurs in 'the third space' of Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School, as negotiation space where the fight occurs between culture and identity; thus new identity is created without abandoning their genuine identity. Hybridity occurs in the presence of cultural identity resulting from the relationship between Islam culture, in this case, Islamic Boarding School and transgender culture. The presence of the transgender santri is the symbol of resistance against the dominant culture of Islam with various performances or symbols, which are used daily to show off new identity.

This article investigates links between religious and political transnationalisms through analyzing responses to the 2006 Lebanon war from the diaspora. I examine the role of a shaykh in bringing Lebanese Shiʿa in Senegal “back to Islam” as well as (spiritually if not physically) back to Lebanon. I explore his efforts to institute formal religious education through a Friday sermon, encourage public expressions of piety, and introduce new religious rituals in commemorations of ʿAshuraʾ and Ramadan. This ethnographic study adds a diaspora component to debates about Lebanese nationalism and suggests that the ideology of the umma does not hold for a marginalized Muslim minority community in a Muslim majority country, which instead defines itself along reformulated ethnic, religious, and national boundaries. The paper contributes to newly emerging scholarship on transnational Shiʿi linkages by demonstrating how the African example adds another dimension to our understanding of the relationship between religion and nationalism in the Middle East.
