The enduring quality of "The Cask of Amontillado" makes it a timeless classic in which researchers from different generations offer a variety of subjective interpretations. This study aims to look closer to the story of "The Cask of Amontillado" to reveal other underlying themes. The themes were identified using content/textual analysis and a humanistic literary approach in interpreting meanings. The themes discovered involve excessive self-esteem, a penchant for prestige, lusting for another's good fortune (envy), and love deprivation. These themes, in a way, express the psychological needs of humans reflected in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Left unsatisfied, these basic human needs (self-esteem, prestige, and love) led to the characters' downfall because their thoughts and actions were inconsistent with ethical conduct. Findings of the study may add to the existing interpretations of the story, which primarily discuss and look into the various facets of its overarching theme of revenge along with Montressor’s mental condition.

The term, “technology,” as used here, refers basically to: (1) the science or art of devising tools and instruments and how to use them; (2) the development of new materials and substances and their application; (3) the development of machines to supplement or replace human effort, where desirable and feasible; (4) the development of energy and power resources for running the machines; and (5) the development of efficient methods of doing work—that is, using tools, machines, and instruments. From an observation of human efforts throughout the world, it is clear that every human society is concerned with technology, for it is a proven means by which man has extended his power beyond his physical capacity and gained some control over his environment. Although technology exists in every society, it is the amount and quality of the technology that separates nations today on a scale of economic development. Whilst the developing, technologically backward countries of Africa constantly face the basic human needs of food, shelter, and clothing, the developed nations consume and enjoy a disproportionate amount of the world’s resources and wealth by reason of their technological advancement.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the meaning and dimensionality of state of comfort from chronic hemodialysis patients’ perspectives. Method: this is a qualitative study conducted with 30 patients from a hemodialysis clinic from May to June 2018. A semi-structured interview with guiding questions was used. Data were analyzed according to Bardin’s content analysis method, supported by Kolcaba’s theoretical framework. Results: five subcategories for being and feeling comfortable emerged: psychological well-being; Silent environment; Good quality of care; No health changes; Reduction in the frequency/duration of hemodialysis. Regarding dimensionality to achieve comfort, there were three subcategories according to the adopted states. Regarding dimensionality, relief is achieved when a patient is disconnected from the machine, does not attend any session or does not present clinical manifestations of hemodialysis complications. In calm, visible discomforts are linked to change of routine, abandonment of work activities, financial difficulties and poor family support, and psychospiritual issues that weaken in their daily life, making them vulnerable to discomfort. In transcendence, absence of symptoms, attachment to religion, faith or spirituality and resilience to the new routine figured as indexes. States do not act individually, they are related to the experiences of contexts. Conclusion: comfort has meaning of relief from discomfort, state of having met basic human needs, mental and physical well-being, physical, mental and environmental comfort, and final state of nursing therapeutic actions, which permeate the contexts and states of relief, calm, and transcendence. These elements combine with each other to generate unique responses.

Cooking oil is one of the basic human needs. Improving the quality of bulk cooking oil is necessary because it is related to economic reason. The bulk cooking oil have a lower price than brand package oil, of course. Based on these reasons, research is needed on the use of antioxidants to improve the quality of bulk cooking oil. This study aims to identify the phytochemicals of bay leaves extract through TOF profiling, analysis of iodine number and acid number of bay leaves extract against bulk cooking oil. TOF profiling was carried out to see whether bay leaves had chemical compounds that supported antioxidant activity which had an impact on the inhibition of fat oxidation. The research consisted of 4 stages: 1) extraction and fractionation of bay leaves, 2) TOF profiling of bay leaves extract, 3) application of bay leaves extract to bulk cooking oil, 4) analysis of iodine and acid numbers. Profiling TOF of the bay leaves extract showed 3 peaks : C6H13NO5 (cyclohexanol, galactose, and fructose derivatives), C11H14O5 (pyran and furan), andC11H19NO3 (morpholine derivate). According to SNI, the acid value maximum 0.6 mg KOH/g. Iodine value minimum is 45 g I2/ 100 mL (SNI 3741 : 2013). Based of this data standart, this study recommended use bay leaves extract in concentration 0.80%. The addition of bay leaves extract as much as 0.80% showed an iodine number of 48.2 g I2/100 mL and an acid number of 0.34 mg KOH/g where the positive control TBHQ showed an iodine number of 48.7 g I2/100 mL and an acid number of 0.19 mg KOH/g.

Development of environmental protection together with economic and social development can be considered sustainable only if they support individual quality of life. Conceptually, quality of life is closely related to sustainable development, since sustainability implies a balance between environmental, social, and economic qualities. Environmental quality is reflected in its ability to meet the basic human needs. Quality of life is a complex and multi-dimensional construct that warrants multiple approaches from different theoretical perspectives. Evaluation of the quality of life determined by the environment can be facilitated using objective and subjective measurements. Regardless of how these two indicators are classified, both are considered equally beneficial and valuable for research. Considering all the above mentioned, the aim of this chapter is to shed light on the importance of environmental protection for the quality of life, as well as the necessity to measure quality of life determined by environmental factors in order to adequately manage them.

The articles about culture, sexuality and gynecological cancer were retrieved from electronic databases: Pubmed, Google Scholar, EBSCOHOST, Scopus and Reference Series Turkey. Because of most of the people are conservative, talking on sexuality becomes a taboo not only for patients, but also for nurse in Turkey. Gynecological cancer diagnosis has an important impact on sexuality which is one of the basic human needs and crucial for the quality of life. Vaginal dryness and orgasm problems are the most common sexual troubles for gynecological cancer patients. Due to shame and social norms; patients may avoid talking about their sexual problems with nurse. Nurse should be aware for sexual care needs of gynecological cancer patients and have to encourage them for talking about their sexual life.   Keywords: Gynecological cancers; sexuality; culture; sexual taboo.
