Abstract. The Mangrove Vegetation Index (MVI) was developed to map mangroves extent from remotely-sensed imageries accurately and quickly. MVI measures the probability of a pixel to be a ‘mangrove’ by extracting the greenness and moisture information from the green, NIR, and SWIR bands. The range of MVI values may vary depending on factors such as land cover classes, climatic conditions, or tidal conditions. Mapping the scope of mangrove sites involves setting a maximum and minimum MVI threshold to separate them from other land cover classes and vegetation. Although the MVI has a high index accuracy, its mapping performance is limited by some biophysical and environmental factors. Misclassification occurs in aquacultural areas, irrigated croplands, and sites with palm trees where mangrove and surrounding vegetation pixels have highly similar spectral signatures. There are scenes with complex environments, such as in aquaculture areas and along a network of rivers and streams, where an optimal threshold varies across the site, and setting a single MVI threshold may not yield excellent results. An automated threshold setting using the Otsu method was explored; however, the results were inaccurate due to a low intensity contrast between mangroves and other vegetation in the MVI raster layer. This study also looked into possible adjustments to improve the manual threshold setting workflow for a successful mapping of mangrove extent using MVI on Sentinel-2 imagery.

AbstractDipole emission pattern imaging experiments on single chains of common conjugated polymers (solubilized poly phenylene vinylenes) isolated by ink-jet printing techniques have revealed surprising uniformity in transition moment orientation perpendicular to the support substrate. In addition to uniform orientation, these species show a number of striking differences in photochemical stability, polarization anisotropy,[1] and spectral signatures[2] with respect to similar (well-studied) molecules dispersed in dilute thin-films. Combined with molecular mechanics simulation, these results point to a structural picture of a folded macromolecule as a highly ordered cylindrical nanostructure whose long-axis (approximately collinear with the conjugation axis) is oriented, by an electrostatic interaction, perpendicular to the coverglass substrate. These results suggest a number of important applications in nanoscale photonics and molecular-scale optoelectronics.

Vegetasi mangrove merupakan salah satu bagian penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat Papua. Penelitian dilakukan dengan observasi lapangan dan telah pustaka. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui vegetasi mangrove yang dipergunakan sebagai bahan makanan pada empat suku yang ada di Papua Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 7 jenis dari 3 suku vegetasi mangrove yang dimanfaatkan sebagai makanan. Ke-7 jenis tersebut :Bruguiera gymnorrhiza Lam, Ceriops tagal B.Rob, Nypa fruticans Wurmb, Bruquiera parviflora, Rhizopora apiculata, Sonneratia alba J.Sm, dan Sonneratia avota dari 3 suku Rhizophoraceae, Sonneratiaceae, Arecaceae. Kegunaan vegetasi mangrove sebagai bahan makanan di antaranya: sebagai makanan pokok, rujakan, pengganti pinang, pengganti kelapa, penambah rasa, dan minuman.

This study aims to describe the profile of vegetation diversity in the mangrove ecosystem in Tamuku Village, Bone-Bone-Bone District, North Luwu Regency. This research is a qualitative research using survey methods. The data collection technique uses the Quadrant Line Transect Survey technique. The data analysis technique uses the thinking flow which is divided into three stages, namely describing phenomena, classifying them, and seeing how the concepts that emerge are related to each other. The results of this study are the profile of mangrove vegetation in Tamuku Village, which is still found 16 varieties of true mangrove vegetation and 7 varieties of mangrove vegetation joined in the coastal area of Tamuku Village, Bone-Bone District, North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. The condition of mangrove vegetation in Tamuku Village is currently very worrying due to human activities that cause damage such as the project of normalization of flow, opening of new farms, disposal of garbage, water pollution due to chemicals, and exploitation of mangrove forests for living needs. The impact is ecosystem damage and reduced vegetation area as a place to grow and develop mangroves.

Abstract Non-degraded and degraded AlGaN/GaN HEMT devices have been characterized electrically and investigated in various operating modes using integral and spectrally resolved photon emission (PE). In degraded devices the PE dependence on the gate voltage differs from the non-degraded devices. Various types of dependencies on the gate voltage have been identified when investigating local degradation sites. PE spectroscopy was performed at various bias conditions. For both devices broad spectra have been obtained in a wavelength regime from visible to near-infrared, including local performance variations. Signatures of the degradation have been determined in the electrical characterization, in integral PE distribution and in the PE spectrum.

Algae has a great potential for quick capture of biological carbon and its storage in saltwater-inundated coastal wetlands and can also be introduced as a climate adaptive alternate farming practice. An intervention with native algal flora Enteromorpha sp. in enclosed coastal Sundarbans in India on two open water culture techniques, viz. U-Lock & Fish-Bone, shows that growth in native algal stock is influenced by seasonal variations of salinity and other limnological factors. Sundarbans, facing the odds of climate change is fast loosing arable lands to sea level rise. Algaculture in inundated coastal areas can be an adaptive mitigation for the same. Perusal of results show that daily growth rate (DGR%) increases with increasing salinity of the intruding tidal waters to an extent and biomass increment under salt stress results in accumulation of metabolites those are having nutrient values and can yield bio-diesel as well. Algal growth recorded mostly in post monsoon period, has impacts on pH and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) of the ambient water to facilitate integrated pisciculture. The paper suggests that alga-culture has unrealized potentials in carbon sequestration and can be significantly used for extraction of Biodiesel.
