One of the main problems in scientific repositories is to identify relationships and link metadata from different sources. This paper briefly describes the new results in an effort to build a software platform able to process metadata from different heterogeneous sources. The case study for this phase is the linking of the thesis and dissertation repositories network, the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), and the Lattes Platform of researchers' curricula. A strategy for generating hashes for records is applied, through transformation rules on title and year, capturing, in one step, the Lattes identifiers of theses and dissertations authors and supervisors.

Structural geological models are widely used to represent relevant geological interfaces and property distributions in the subsurface. Considering the inherent uncertainty of these models, the non-uniqueness of geophysical inverse problems, and the growing availability of data, there is a need for methods that integrate different types of data consistently and consider the uncertainties quantitatively. Probabilistic inference provides a suitable tool for this purpose. Using a Bayesian framework, geological modeling can be considered as an integral part of the inversion and thereby naturally constrain geophysical inversion procedures. This integration prevents geologically unrealistic results and provides the opportunity to include geological and geophysical information in the inversion. This information can be from different sources and is added to the framework through likelihood functions. We applied this methodology to the structurally complex Kevitsa deposit in Finland. We started with an interpretation-based 3D geological model and defined the uncertainties in our geological model through probability density functions. Airborne magnetic data and geological interpretations of borehole data were used to define geophysical and geological likelihoods, respectively. The geophysical data were linked to the uncertain structural parameters through the rock properties. The result of the inverse problem was an ensemble of realized models. These structural models and their uncertainties are visualized using information entropy, which allows for quantitative analysis. Our results show that with our methodology, we can use well-defined likelihood functions to add meaningful information to our initial model without requiring a computationally-heavy full grid inversion, discrepancies between model and data are spotted more easily, and the complementary strength of different types of data can be integrated into one framework.

AbstractThe digitization and online dissemination of the Popol Vuh, a historical indigenous knowledge work, poses distinct ethical, legal, intellectual, and technological concerns for humanities researchers and information practitioners seeking to study and digitally curate works through a decolonized consciousness. Ongoing debates on data sovereignty, the repatriation of cultural artifacts, and cultural appropriation question the ability of researchers and information practitioners to effectively steward indigenous knowledge works in a digital environment. While consensus on best practices for the postcolonial digital library or archive remain to be established, information inequity continues to persist, effacing indigenous knowledge, languages, and content from the knowledge society. The following case study will discuss the results of a 10-year multi-institutional initiative to curate, repatriate, and steward the reproduction of an indigenous knowledge work online. From the vantage point of the library, the case study will explore the project’s successes, failures, and the work left to be done.

The challenges encountered in building the InternationalChildren’s Digital Library (ICDL), a freely availableonline library of children’s literature are described. Thesechallenges include selecting and processing books fromdifferent countries, handling and presenting multiplelanguages simultaneously, and addressing cultural differences. Unlike other digital libraries that present content from one or a few languages and cultures, and focuson either adult or child audiences, ICDL must serve amultilingual, multicultural, multigenerational audience. The research is presented as a case study for addressingthese design criteria; current solutions and plans forfuture work are described.

This paper describes a project led by the Instituto Brasileiro de Informações em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict), a government institution, to build a national digital library for electronic theses and dissertations - Bibliteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações (BDTD). The project has been a collaborative effort among Ibict, universities and other research centers in Brazil. The developers adopted a system architecture based on the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) in which universities and research centers act as data providers and Ibict as a service provider. A Brazilian metadata standard for electronic theses and dissertations was developed for the digital library. A toolkit including open source package was also developed by Ibict to be distributed to potential data providers. BDTD has been integrated with the international initiative: the Networked Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertation (NDLTD). Discussions in the paper address various issues related to project design, development and management as well as the role played by Ibict. Conclusions highlight some important lessons learned to date and challenges for the future in expanding the BDTD project.

The aim of this article is to furnish insights of the Italian public debate on the recognition of LGBTQ rights, which can be understood as an interesting case study of the complex relationship between (multi)secularisation processes and re/definition of citizenship models. More specifically, the article analyses two political events related to this debate that took place in Rome in June 2015. The first is the Family Day demonstration, promoted by conservative Catholic groups; the second is the LGBTQ Pride parade, promoted by various gay, lesbian and transsexual/gender associations. We analyse the official statements issued by the two organising committees of the demonstrations, adopting the framework and methods of the Critical Discourse Analysis. Above and beyond an evident political conflict between the two discourses, we try to shed light on their mutual construction on the basis of what we call ‘naturalization’ and ‘universalization’ processes.

Abstract: The present study aimed to analyze factors associated with the equipment failures of the sugarcane harvester, whose machineries has high importance in the harvest process and cost involved. Part of the data was originally provided by a company located in the countryside of Sao Paulo State, from two machines, collected from January 2015 to August 2017, corresponding to 2.5 crops. The overall dataset was obtained from three different sources: a stop-tracking system, which provides the track of a preventive and corrective maintenance historical of the analyzed equipment; telemetry data of the equipment, captured through embedded computer systems, installed in the machine’ type under study, which provide information on its operation; and meteorological data from the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology. Multivariate analyzes were used such as principal components and multiple regression models, therefore creating a model for prediction considering the next equipment’ break, then pointing to causes of process failures. Thus, the results point to some improvements concerned with individualized reliability scheme in order to reduce the number of corrective stops given the equipment.

Sistema Prisional. Humanização.Reading as a practice of reintegration in the National Pententiary SystemABSTRACTThe objective of this study is to carry out a survey of research and policies that involve reading in the national penitentiary system, mapping of dissertations and postgraduate theses, which have had the subject of reading projects in the last ten years. For this, we conducted a research in the thesis bank of the Cover Portal and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. From the data collection, we identified that work involving education in the prison system is still scarce, mainly, related to reading practices. This situation can be aggravated, above all, by the false effectiveness of policies that govern these contexts. Keywords: Reading. Prison System. Background: Patient safety is an indicator of hospital service quality. A hospital in Surabaya identified six indicators of patient safety goals. There are two indicators which can not achieve the standard, namely effective communication and infection risk reduction.Aims: This study aims to identify the process improvement that can be done to increase indicator performance by using PDSA cycle.Method: A descriptive observational design was used in this study with a case study and participatory approach. There were 5 subjects selected by purposive sampling. Interview and observation were used to collect data that then were analyzed descriptively. The validity of data was done by triangulation of method, source, and theory. Results: The PDSA results indicated that the cause of the poor indicators performance of both patient safety goals is the poor compliance of the health staffs in carrying out read-back procedure and hand hygiene as written in SOP. It was caused by the lack of knowledge and motivation of the health staffs in implementing the SOP.Conclusion: In conclusion, process improvement can be done by socializing read-back SOP and hand hygiene as well as supervision conducted periodically by managers. Plan stage is one step which should be improved. Commitment in implementing the improvement planning is necessary. In addition, further research on factors that influence compliance should be conducted. Keywords: patient safety, PDSA method, process improvement, quality of hospital
