In this paper we are interested in the connections between Philosophy for Children and character education. In sketching these connections we suggest some areas where the relationship is potentially fruitful, particularly in light of research which suggests that in practice schools and teachers often adopt and mix different approaches to values education. We outline some implications of drawing connections between the two fields for moral education. The arguments made in this article are done so in the hope of encouraging further critical reflection on the potential relationship between Philosophy for Children and character education.

AbstractThis study aims to analyze the relationship between values education and character education in the material of norms and justice for grade 7 SMP/MTs subjects of Pancasila and Citizenship Education. This study uses a qualitative approach by means of library research as a technique of collecting data from various related references to analyze content. The results of the study indicate that value education and character education in civic education have an integrated relationship with each other. With value education, students have values in themselves which are considered good, right, worthy and valuable to take action. Actions based on these values are manifested in character education as a guide for good behavior in the family, school, friendship, community. Good character values must always be instilled in children from an early age so that they become good habits and reflect human beings who have character and are civilized or make good citizens. The values contained in character education are manifested in civic education subjects, one of which is in the material of norms and justice for grade 7 SMP/MTs.Keywords: education, character, values, normsAbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keterkaitan pendidikan nilai dan pendidikan karakter dalam materi norma dan keadilan kelas 7 SMP/MTs mata pelajaran Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan. The following paper was written in 1999, as the opening speech at the Hobart FAPCA (Federation of Australasian Philosophy for Children Associations now FAPSA) National Conference. I was, at the time, Chair of FAPCA. The keynote speaker at the conference was Professor Gareth Matthews from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and author of, among other books, The Philosophy of Childhood. As the paper was written as a speech, and not as an academic article, I did not cite all the points made in full academic mode. Rather, for publication in Critical and Creative Thinking, I added a list of further reading which gives details for all the articles and books mentioned in the speech. At the time, I had just completed my PhD (the thesis is cited in the further reading), and taken up the position of International Baccalaureate Coordinator at The Friends’ School in Hobart. Subsequently in 2001, a revised and abridged version of the thesis was published by Routledge under the title Philosophical Discussion in Moral Education, and readers who are interested in following up some of my points made in the paper can find more detail there.

The development of a globalized world not only produces human productivity in simplifying your life, but it also has adverse effects on human relations and governance patterns. But of progress emerging globalized moral decadence until today. This fact should not only be a commodity social issues just discourse alone, but should be aware of Indonesia that adult education has lost his soul (moral education / educational character), because it is not stable enough to fortify young people (teenagers) from destructive behaviors they consume from a variety of sources of information. Education should be directed to education that is integrated with the values of faith and piety. Education that can see a multidimensional human beings are not only composed of two elements alone (physical and spiritual). The use of Qur'anic method that is able to see humans as being multidimensional, and five strategies that can be used in education morals / these characters is the integration of faith and piety in the vision, mission, goals and strategies of school; optimization of Islamic religious education in schools is not just a "transfer of knowledge" but "transfer of value"; the integration of faith and piety in the learning process; implementation of extra-minded faith and piety; the formation of school culture that supports the increase of faith and piety; implement the cooperation between the school and parents of students. Education moral / character education by integrating between faith and piety, as well as with various measures and strategies undertaken education is expected to be able to be a bulwark for the youth (teenagers) from destructive behaviors. The objective of the work is to establish the characterization of the auditory disability and its relationship with resilience at the Technical University of Manabí. The article shows a conceptual analysis related to the inclusion and social integration of disabled students. Based on the fact that the person with disabilities grows and develops in the same way as that of people without disabilities and what usually happens is that disabled people are rejected and discriminated against based on a prefabricated and erroneous conceptualization of these people. The results associated with the application of the SV-RES test prepared by the researchers are shown (Saavedra & Villalta, 2008b). Characterization of the auditory deficit is made in the students, and the limitations that derive from it are pointed out. We analyze the particularities related to communication with students who have a hearing disability and resilience in this type of student, where some personal highlights that in this sense constitute an example of resilience. Finally, the results related to the study of the relationship between students' hearing disability and the level of resilience dimensions are shown.

Whether the apprentice is competent for the job and produces performance for the organization is the key index to test the quality of apprenticeship education. Based on competency theory, this paper investigates the influence of competency dimensions and work meaning on performance. Through the competency questionnaire analysis of 224 shop managers in apprentice project enterprises, it is found that: the part of the competency dimension of personality traits, motivation and values hidden in the iceberg model has a significant impact on performance through work meaning; the relationship between work values and work meaning of apprentices is stronger, and that the relationship between work motivation and work meaning of non-apprentices is stronger. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the cultivation of multiple values of apprenticeship, especially the significance of moral education. The results provide reference for upgrading the quality of talent training in Colleges, reconstructing talent training objectives and the practice of human resource management in enterprises.

In light of increasing concerns about global environmental problems, environmental moral education is assumed to have a significant influence on the pro-environmental behaviour of students. Within the past decade, several higher education institutes have acknowledged the importance of integrating sustainability into the educational curriculum to have a focused and explicit impact on society. The current study investigated the relationship between environmental moral education and pro-environmental behaviour while drawing upon insights from the conservation of resource theory. The relationship among the aforementioned variables was studied for the mediating role of psychological empowerment and the moderating effect of Islamic religiosity. Data were collected from 429 university students with a cross-sectional approach. The data were analysed using “structural equation modelling” and “PROCESS” analytical techniques. The results of the study followed the predicted conceptual model, that is, environmental moral education was positively related to pro-environmental behaviour. Furthermore, psychological empowerment partially mediated the aforementioned relationship, while Islamic religiosity moderated the relationships between environmental moral education and pro-environmental behaviour as well as between environmental moral education and psychological empowerment. These findings reinforce the importance of environmental moral education and Islamic religiosity in understanding the Muslim student’s ecological behaviours.

(BJ6.350)Those who discard their weapons and surrender their persons, I will let live. Like a lenient master in a household, I will punish the incorrigible but preserve the rest for myself. So ends Titus' address to the embattled defenders of Jerusalem in the sixth book of Josephus'Jewish War(6.328-50). It is the most substantial instance of communication between Romans and Jews in the work. Titus compares himself to the master of a household and the Jewish rebels to his slaves. Is this how we expect a Roman to describe empire? If not, what does it mean for our understanding of the politics of Josephus' history? The question is particularly acute given that this is not just any Roman but Titus himself: heir apparent and, if we believe Josephus, the man who read and approved this historical account. It is thus surprising that, while the speeches of Jewish advocates of submission to Rome such as Agrippa II (2.345-401) and Josephus himself (5.362-419) have long fascinated readers, Titus' speech has received little or no attention. Remarkably, it is not mentioned in any of three recent collections of essays on Josephus. This paper aims to highlight the rhetorical choices that Josephus has made in constructing this voice for Titus—particularly his self-presentation as master—and the interpretive questions these raise for his readers. It should go without saying that the relationship of this text to anything that Titus may have said during the siege is highly problematic. (Potentially more significant, but unfortunately no less speculative, is the question of how it might relate to any speech recorded in the commentaries of Vespasian and Titus that Josephus appears to have used as a source.) What we have is a Josephan composition that is embedded in the broader narrative of theJewish War.

Abstract Bernal, M., Stratoudakis, Y., Wood, S., Ibaibarriaga, L., Uriarte, A., Valdés, L., and Borchers, D. 2011. A revision of daily egg production estimation methods, with application to Atlanto-Iberian sardine. 2. Spatially and environmentally explicit estimates of egg production. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 68: . A spatially and environmentally explicit egg production model is developed to accommodate a number of assumptions about the relationship between egg production and mortality and associated environmental variables. The general model was tested under different assumptions for Atlanto-Iberian sardine. It provides a flexible estimator of egg production, in which a range of assumptions and hypotheses can be tested in a structured manner within a well-defined statistical framework. Application of the model to Atlanto-Iberian sardine increased the precision of the egg production time-series, and allowed improvements to be made in understanding the spatio-temporal variability in egg production, as well as implications for ecology and stock assessment.

Underwater plate vibration and its associated noise are of interest for the analysis of ship structures, propeller blades, and other areas of underwater acoustics. In order to analyze the relationship between a plate vibrating underwater and the acoustic pressure in the near-field, optical interferometric holography, using a blue-green laser beam, was used to determine surface displacement for the vibrating plate, which was excited through a fluid-coupled system. Acoustic measurements of the same source were made in a water tower concurrently with the holography and later at a precision acoustic testing facility. This method permits prediction of underwater plate modal frequencies and shapes with high accuracy.
