Despite of measuring the impact of feasibility and desirability separately or jointly on entrepreneurial intention by different scholars; the intention among employees was not measured in Lebanon before and the international studies are almost limited to turnover intention and its impact on the organizations, to job satisfaction and its impact on counterproductive work behavior of employees. Our research aims to exploit the impact of the feasibility, desirability and creativity on the entrepreneurial intention within a new context. Employees’ entrepreneurial intention may be affected by different factors. Entrepreneurial intention is found to determine employees’ willingness to engage into entrepreneurial behavior in future instead of being employed. The main objective of this study is to understand how perceived desirability, perceived feasibility and creativity affect entrepreneurial intention of bank employees. The primary data of this study was gathered by distributing 101 survey questionnaires to respondents at a prime bank in Lebanon. The Cronbach’s Alpha Reliability test which can ensure high reliability result was conducted on every variable. Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis were conducted in this study to observe independent variables (i.e., desirability, feasibility & creativity). All variables have significant relationship with entrepreneurial intention.The discussion of the findings, implications of study, limitations and recommendations for future research are discussed in the end of the study.

Purpose The COVID-19 pandemic has changed education ideology across the globe. The education system has drastically shifted from traditional ways of teaching toward online teaching mechanism. This study aims to conduct an analysis of factors influencing the adoption of the e-teaching methodology of learning by students amidst the present pandemic crisis. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on primary data and a survey was conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire with a sample size of 216 respondents from various universities in India. Cronbach’s alpha and Pearson correlation, the goodness of fit, ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis was applied. Findings Furthermore, the results obtained stated that attitude and usefulness proved to be statistically significant as the two variables contribute a statistically significant number of predictions to the practice of adoption of the e-teaching methodology by students. Additionally, it was found out that students there is a strong requirement from the institute and teachers’ part to motivate the students to take interest in e-teaching and students should be given an opportunity to develop a sense of empowerment so, that they can feel comfortable and can discuss their query’s confident during the e-classes. Research limitations/implications This study was completed within a time constraint. So, the sample size is small i.e. 216 and variables, which influence the adoption of the e-teaching methodology of learning by students are not exhaustive. There might be many other variables, which are still unexplored and should have been part of this study. Practical implications This study will be beneficial for the education sector to better understand the impact of e-teaching methodologies on the learning and development of students in a more practical way. Originality/value The study adds value to the literature in the domain of online teaching and the level of e-learning from students’ perspectives in the era of this new pandemic crisis. Then, will be beneficial for not only the students but also will help the institution and teachers to understand the mindset of the students in detail and can improve the way knowledge is delivered to the students by the means of e-classes in a sustainable way.

The notion that the lifelong-learning concept bolsters career success is one of the popular and debated research areas in the world. Within the Sri Lankan context, there is a lack of evidence to determine this concept and only have the impression that a lifelong-learning mindset positively impacts career success. Therefore, this conceptual query is carried out to warrant scholarly investigation that encapsulates the impact of a lifelong-learning mindset on the career success of accounting professionals in Sri Lanka. By bridging the lacuna in existing research studies and determining the relationship between lifelong mindset and career success in the Sri Lankan context, this study tries to fulfill the empirical gap and contribute new knowledge. The study was conducted in SLIIT Business School, SLIIT, Sri Lanka during the time period between February to October 2021. Adopting an online questionnaire survey strategy and convenience sampling method, primary data was collected from a sample of 384 respondents who are accounting professionals in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data and interpret the findings. According to the findings, there is a significant impact on career success from a lifelong-learning mindset, and a positive relationship between lifelong-learning mindset and career success with a Pearson Correlation Coefficient of +.729. The study discovered that increasing the Lifelong-learning mindset attitude by one unit increases the career success of accounting professionals by 77.9 percent (P = 0.000). The research found that out of three factors, namely, learning curiosity, strategic thinking, and resilience; only curiosity and resilience have a statically significant impact on career success in Sri Lanka. A finding this research was able to identify is that strategic thinking does not significantly impact career success within the Sri Lankan context.

This study analyzed the variability of rainfall and temperature in southwest coastal Bangladesh and assessed the impact of such variability on local livelihood in the last two decades. The variability analysis involved the use of coefficient of variation (CV), standardized precipitation anomaly (Z), and precipitation concentration index (PCI). Linear regression analysis was conducted to assess the trends, and a Mann–Kendall test was performed to detect the significance of the trends. The impact of climate variability was assessed by using a livelihood vulnerability index (LVI), which consisted of six livelihood components with several sub-components under each component. Primary data to construct the LVIs were collected through a semi-structed questionnaire survey of 132 households in a coastal polder. The survey data were triangulated and supplemented with qualitative data from focused group discussions and key informant interviews. The results showed significant rises in temperature in southwest coastal Bangladesh. Though there were no discernable trends in annual and seasonal rainfalls, the anomalies increased in the dry season. The annual PCI and Z were found to capture the climate variability better than the currently used mean monthly standard deviation. The comparison of the LVIs of the present decade with the past indicated that the livelihood vulnerability, particularly in the water component, had increased in the coastal polder due to the increases in natural hazards and climate variability. The index-based vulnerability analysis conducted in this study can be adapted for livelihood vulnerability assessment in deltaic coastal areas of Asia and Africa.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] Sexualization has been posited to be a part of a larger process of socialization with negative implications (APA, 2010; Ward, 2016). Recent reviews of gender-based violence and exploitation have focused on important elements that highlight the impact of the pervasive experiences of sexual objectification and sexual commodification on women and girls, but relatively limited literature has explored domains of men's sexualizing behaviors. Using the theoretical domains outlined in the APA Task Force Report on the Sexualization of Girls (APA, 2010), the present study developed and validated a measure of men's sexualizing behaviors toward women (MSBWS) on a sample of 308 adult males (ages 18-34). Using exploratory factor analysis, results indicated three-factors that defined the MSBWS: Covert, Commodified, and Overt Sexualization. Analyses also revealed the MSBWS to have high reliability for the overall scale as well as the three subscales. Evidence for construct validity was revealed in significant correlations with all criterion variables (e.g., attitudes of sexual objectification, traditional masculinity and sexual aggression) and suggest broad implications that men's sexualizing behaviors is a measurable construct. Future research may further validate the MSBWS using confirmatory factor analysis on independent samples and examine relevant variables of the possible harm of sexualizing behaviors.

Purpose The paper aims to investigate the existence of typical preferred behaviours that might characterize Brazilian women’s entrepreneurial profile and whether this profile influences their motivation to undertake a venture. Design/methodology/approach Following the evolution of the literature on women entrepreneurship, the study criticizes the rational view that conceives entrepreneurship as a universal phenomenon and immune to gender. A quantitative approach based on multivariate data analysis (structural equation modelling) was applied to a sample of 418 women entrepreneurs with regard to six hypotheses associated with a specifically conceived conceptual model. Findings The behavioural categories tested in the model that most influence Brazilian women’s entrepreneurial profile are planning, identifying opportunities, sociability and leadership, corroborating the results of other international studies. Behaviours connected with persistence did not correlate to Brazilian women’s entrepreneurial profile. The hypothesis that women’s entrepreneurial profile positively influences their entrepreneurial intention was confirmed. Research limitations/implications As the study is based on an intentional, non-probabilistic sample, further research needs to be conducted using other forms of sampling, extending the findings to other contexts internationally and to other Brazilian regions. Practical implications Women can perceive whether their behavioural profile is suited to embracing entrepreneurship challenges, helping them to make effective career choices. Originality/value The study provides a robust model with high explanatory value. It contributes to the women’s entrepreneurship literature from the perspective of a Latin American developing country, offering valuable insights regarding the impact of entrepreneurial behavioural profile on women’s entrepreneurial activities.

Background: Human resource is dynamic and complex ever because of changes in local, regional and global dimensions. Managing people for optimal use of their competencies for organizational purpose has no options. Employee motivation and employee turnover is being the central issue in the modern organizations, corporate movement of competent people is being the regular corporate news in business arena. Human capital management (HCM) helps them to be satisfied and being positive to their work and the organization. It helps organization to cope with turnover challenge and deviant workplace behavior. Employee motivation, satisfaction, job burnout, turnover are being common challenges to the management. To cope with such challenges, organizations should have strategic focus on human capital management. Objectives: This study aims to explore the situation of human capital management in Nepali insurance companies and the employee’s satisfaction from human capital management. The study also aims to examine the association between satisfaction from HCM and workplace behavior. To examine the gender influence on workplace behavior of the employees created by HCM. Methods: This study was conducted with correlational research design. Primary data for each variable was collected from 402 employees of different seven life insurance companies having at least five years of business experience. To observe the current HCM practices, 3-Point statements were asked. Structured questionnaire with 5-Point Likert Scale was used to collect responses on satisfaction from HCM and the satisfaction towards positive workplace behavior. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and independent sample t-tests were used to examine the objectives. Result: Results of the study revealed that Nepali insurance companies have maintained human capital management causing employee satisfaction. Employees have reported that they have positive workplace behavior. Female employees have more positive workplace behavior of employees. Employee’s satisfaction from HCM is obtained having positive relationship with workplace behavior. Conclusion: Nepali insurance companies have satisfactory HCM effective to motivate their employees. Employee’s satisfaction leads for positive workplace behavior. There is no gender difference in satisfaction on HCM while female have more positive workplace behavior in comparison to their male counterparts. Implications: To cope with intense competition among the competitors in Nepali insurance industry, this study provides strong evidence to focus on HCM and positive workplace behavior.

Background and objectives. The relationship between leadership styles and job performance draws considerable attention from recent researchers. The main objective of this study was to determine the impact of leadership style (autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire) on job performance from nurse’s points of view at Benghazi Medical Centre. Method. This study was a descriptive questionnaire-based study conducted on 100 nurses working at Benghazi Medical Centre, Libya. To analyze the data (mean, standard deviation, ANOVA test were used. Furthermore, multiple regressions and Pearson correlation were used to determine whether a relationship exists between the independent and dependent variables. Result. Of 100, only 60 questionnaires were completed, giving a response rate of 60%. The findings of this study indicated that democratic was the most dominantly used in the hospital, followed by the autocratic and laissez-faire leadership styles. Whereas, the laissez-faire leadership style had a strong positive and significant impact on performance (R2= .333; P < 0.01). Conclusion. Laissez-faire leadership style positively affected nurses’ performance. Future research that might be relevant to be further explored are worth.

In this study, we assessed the impact of the Billion Trees Afforestation Program (BTAP) on the livelihood of local household in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province (KPK). BTAP is the largest ban-logging afforestation program in Pakistan, which aims to conserve natural forests, promoting rural livelihoods and reducing poverty. Primary data from 360 local inhabitants were collected and analyzed using descriptive and econometric methodologies that include ordered logit model and ordinary least squares (OLS) respectively. In specific, a wealth index, household income, and five assets of sustainable livelihood have been considered to measure the impact of BTAP. We found that there is a strong and positive contribution of BTAP to the improvement of a rural community’s livelihood. Results showed that BTAP based households earn 4% more income and possess around 35% more assets. These findings suggest that BTAP has considerable effect on increase in livelihood assets. This study continues the discussion with several practical implications of this along with recommendations for future research.

Chronic pain is a serious public health problem that has grown exponentially in recent years, which is why it has received the attention of numerous researchers. Most of the studies in the field of chronic pain have focused on care as a mediating variable on the perception of painful stimuli and emotions. Nevertheless, there are very few studies that have gone in the opposite direction. This study’s aim is therefore to analyse the impact of emotional variables (anxiety and depression), the rating of pain, and age on vigilance processes in a sample of patients with chronic pain. To do so, the attentional performance of a cohort of 52 patients with chronic pain was measured through the use of a modified dot-probe task. Furthermore, all the participants were evaluated using the following self-report measures: Beck’s Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), the McGill Pain Questionnaire, and the Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale-20 (PASS-20). Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between the pain rating index and the number of mistakes the participants made during the attention test. There was also a positive and significant correlation with age and another negative and significant correlation with cognitive anxiety regarding the overall performance times during the undertaking of the experimental task. These results point to the importance of a more in-depth understanding of the impact that the emotional variables and other variables such as age have on attentional processes and the rating of pain. Finally, the discussion focuses on the implications these results could have for clinical practice or for future research studies in this field.

The second issue of PORTAL Journal of Multidisciplinary International Studies for 2006 features a special selection of essays grouped under the title ‘Women in Asia’ and guest-edited by Devleena Ghosh and Barbara Leigh, both from the University of Technology Sydney. The essays in this special issue had their first incarnations at the Eighth Women in Asia Conference, ‘Shadow Lines’, organised by the Women’s Caucus of the Asian Studies Association of Australia and the University of Technology Sydney (convened by Ghosh and Leigh), and held at the University of Technology Sydney from 26 to the 28 September 2005. Aiming self-consciously and tacitly to toy with, and dispute, the historical and discursive valencies accruing to the key, twined terms ‘women’ and ‘Asia’, the ten essays grouped here combine to form a rich repository of contemporary research about the status of women in many parts of that vast, arguably incoherent, geocultural space called Asia. All of the contributing authors thus ‘attempt to unsettle discourses about limits,’ to cite from co-editor Devleena Ghosh’s opening paper. That attempt is far from straightforward, as Ghosh elaborates: ‘That lines, borders and boundaries exist, whether of prejudice, politics, economics, or culture, is undeniable. But how do we analyse these issues without ossifying them, creating implacable alterities that refuse the liminal spaces that people occupy?’ Multivalent solutions are called for, Ghosh suggests, and these are to be found not simply in ‘counter-politics and interventions’, but also through the excavation and recognition of multiple subjectivities from/in ‘a thousand plateaus, [and] felt and experienced through the body, historical landscapes, domestic spaces, through performance as well as through the realm of the imaginary, in the impact of ideals and the weight of history’. In addition to the special section on ‘Women in Asia’, this edition of PORTAL contains two essays in its general academic section. François Provenzano’s ‘Francophonie et études francophones: considérations historiques et métacritiques sur quelques concepts majeurs’ offers a sustained meditation and critique of the discourse of Francophonic unity, and suggests a range of possible critical directions for future research into the study of French-speaking zones, peoples and cultures. Barbara Elizabeth Hanna and Juliana de Nooy’s ‘The Seduction of Sarah: Travel Memoirs and Intercultural Learning’, focuses on a big-selling memoir that was also something of a media-sensation on its publication in Australia in 2002, expatriate Australian journalist Sarah Turnbull’s account of her ambivalent ‘new life’ in Paris, France, after her marriage to a local: Almost French: A New Life in Paris. Interested in Turnbull’s autobiography as a potentially useful and productive classroom text for demonstrating, and enabling discussion of, intercultural difference, the authors’ rich analysis demonstrates that such texts present a host of problems to the teacher keen to work with students’ self-critical capacities to locate themselves in international and transcultural frameworks. We are delighted, as well, to present three cultural works in this issue: Katherine Elizabeth Clay’s evocative ‘comic’ narrative of study abroad, ‘From Penrith to Paris,’ itself a lively visual-textual antidote to Turnbull’s ambivalently romanticized view of (not-quite)-belonging in Paris (as discussed by Hanna and de Nooy in this issue); a typically idiosyncratic satire about the current German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, from Anthony Stephens, expertly deploying an ancient Celtic narrative verse form; and California-based Chicana writer Susana Chávez-Silverman’s code-switching chronicle/crónica, ‘Oda a la ambigüedad Crónica,’ a beautifully concise exploration of loss and the sensory regime of memorialisation.
