Objective: To study the efflux pump inhibition activity of Mucunacochinchinensis extracts Methods: Sensitivity assay was performed by Kirby Bauer technique. Effluxing ability of microbe was done by accretion, accumulation and efflux pump assays. Results: Resistant fungal strains were subjected to efflux ability studies. Maximum effluxing ability was determined from the experimental data and it was found to be 105 min and 75 min by Candida albicans for methanolic extract of M. cochinchinenesis (MMC) and ethanolic extract of M. cochinchinensis (EMC) respectively and 45 min and 105 min by Aspergillus niger for MMC and EMC respectively. Profound synergistic effect of inhibition was observed with combined MMC and standard Clotrimoxazole when compared to the standard alone; against C. albicansindicates the modulating efficacy of MMC. Conclusion: M. cochinchinensis extracts showed efflux pump modulating activity.

Phenenthrene alkaloid identified as 1-ethanamino 7 hex-1-yne-5I-one phenanthrene was isolated from the ethanolic extract of the leaves ofBryophyllum pinnatum(syn. B. calcinum kalanchoe pinnata) a versatile Nigeria medicinal plant. The structure was elucidated using NMR, IR, UV and MS spectral data. Antimicrobial studies showed that the isolated compound successfully inhibitedPsuedomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicansandAspergillus niger. This result authenticates the use ofbryophyllum pinantumin phytomedicine for disease prevention and treatment of infections.

Antibactrial activity of Asteriscus graveolens methanolic extract and its synergy effect with fungal mediated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) against some enteric bacterial human pathogen was conducted. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by the fungal strain namely Tritirachium oryzae W5H as reported early. In this study, MICs of AgNPs against E. aerogenes, Salmonella sp., E. coli and C. albicans in order were 2.13, 19.15, 0.08 and 6.38 µg/mL, respectively, while the MICs of A. graveolens ethanolic extract against the same bacteria were 4, 366, <3300 and 40 µg/mL, respectively. The MIC values at concentration less than 19.15 and 40 µg/ml indicating the potent bacteriostatic effect of AgNPs and A. graveolens ethanolic extract. Increasing in IFA was reported when Nitrofurantion and Trimethoprim were combined with Etoh extract with maximum increase in IFA by 6 and 12 folds for, respectively. Also, 10 folds increasing in IFA was reported when trimethoprim was combined with AgNPs: Etoh extract. But, there were no synergistic effect between the antifungal agents (Caspofungin and Micafungin) combined with AgNPs and or A. graveolens ethanolic extract against C. albicans. The potent synergistic effect of A. graveolens ethanolic extract and/or NPs with the conventional antibiotics is novel in inhibiting antibiotics resistant bacteria. In this study, remarkable increasing in the antibacterial activity, when the most resistant antibiotics combined with A. graveolens ethanolic extract and/or NPs was reported.

Anti-microbial and anti-fungal activity of different solvent extracts of Acalypha indica (Euphorbeace family) was tested against bacterial pathogens (Pseudomonasaeruginosa, E.Coli, KlebsiellaPneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus) and fungal strains (Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Candida tropicalis andCandida kefyr) using the Agar Well diffusion method . It was observed that all the extracts showed positive activity) against bacteria and fungi. Ethanolic extract of Acalypha indica showed more potency against Staphylococcus aureus with an inhibition zone of12.46 (mm) and Methanolic extract exhibited higher activity against E.coli with an inhibition zone of11.26 (mm). Ethanolic extract of Acalypha indica showed prominent antifungal activity against candida albicans with an inhibition diameter of 12.53 (mm) and Aspergillus niger with a diameter of 9.21 (mm) when compared to other solvent extracts. Erythromycin and Ketoconazole were used as positive standards for antimicrobial and anti fungal experiments. In the present study, Ethanol extract showed a varying degree of inhibition to the growth of tested organisms compared to Methanol, Acetone and Chloroform against Bacteria and Fungi. The results confirmed the presence of antibacterial and antifungal compounds in shade dried extracts of Acalypha indica against human pathogenic organisms.

Calligonum polygonoides is locally called as Phog which belongs to the Polygonaceae family. It is traditionally used as an antifungal. The methanolic extract, hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract and aqueous extract were screened against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger in seven concentrations, that is, 1.8, 2.9, 6.5, 12.6, 25, 50 and 75 µg/mL/disc. Calligonum polygonoides showed significant activity against Candida albicans as the observed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is 6.5 µg/mL for methanolic extract, 9.8 µg/mL for ethyl acetate extract, whereas aqueous and hexane extracts showed no activity. Calligonum polygonoides did not show any significant activity against Aspergillus niger.

The present work was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Tinospora cordifolia fruits extracts in three different solvents against Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans. Extracts were prepared in 70% methenol, ethyl acetate and hot distilled water separately. Antimicrobial screenings were done through well diffusion method. Through the experiments it was found that methanolic extract posses highest antimicrobial potential followed with ethyl acetate and then distilled water.
