Construction of RC buildings in preferred locations in the north & eastern hilly regions have increased during the last few decades due to urbanization, population increase, and high influx of tourists. The buildings situated in hilly areas are much more prone to seismic environment in comparison to the buildings that are located in flat regions. Structures on slopes differ from other buildings since they are irregular both vertically and horizontally and therefore susceptible to severe damage when subjected to seismic action. The columns of ground storey have varying height due to sloping ground. This paper presents the comparative analysis of various configurations of 15 storied building with to be found on varying slope with different plan and different structural arrangements situated on seismic zone IV. This study compares various reinforced concrete models framed and analysed their response against dynamic loading to identify and struggle the worst possible scenario. The study is carried out for a combination of three different slopes and different building configuration by response spectrum analysis method and various parameters are compared against various constraints.

The RC buildings' construction has increased in the preferred location of north & eastern hilly areas during the last few decades due to population increase, urbanization, and tourists. The buildings located in the hilly areas are more susceptible to seismic loading as compared to the location of the flat surface building. The shape of the building on the sloping ground differs from the flat surface situated buildings. So, the construction of the building on hilly areas are irregular both vertically & horizontally, thus this type of building is susceptible to severe damage when applied to the seismic condition. The column of the base storey having unequal height due to sloping ground. In this study, the behaviour of a 10 storey stepback building with mass and diaphragm irregularity on the sloping ground is analysed in seismic zone V by Response Spectrum. The analysis of the building is carried out by Etabs software as per IS 1893:2016 to compare the building based on their dynamic response and also identify the vulnerability frame in the sloping ground.

Abstract: Floating column building is a new fascination for engineers. As floating column buildings provides more space and good aesthetics to the building. But have high structural challenges, when a floating column is provided in a multi-story building in a high seismic zone. This paper reviews several studies conducted on the floating column building and its behavior under seismic loads. This paper studies that floating column building are vulnerable to the high seismic zones. The risk of damage also depends on the shape and size of the buildings. The ductile detailing of the joints is the promising solution for immediate failure of such buildings. Keywords: Floating Column, Response spectrum analysis. Vulnerable, damage, multi-story

The multi-dimensional seismic response of a single-span hangar was studied by response spectrum analysis method. The lateral displacements of the structure, forces of its supporting columns and its roof structure were calculated and compared with each other for cases of one-, two- and three-dimensional (1D, 2D and 3D) seismic inputs. The results show that, compared with the case of 1D earthquake input, the effects of horizontally 2D earthquake inputs on the internal forces and displacements of its supporting columns in the primary direction of input are obvious when it is along the symmetrical axis of the hangar and their effects in the secondary direction of input are even more important which results in great increases of the internal forces and displacements in that direction. The vertical seismic input has almost no effect on the internal forces and displacements of columns. The internal forces in different parts of the roof structure are controlled by horizontal or vertical inputs, respectively, and, compared with those from horizontally or vertically 1D inputs, the responses from 3D inputs are increased and the effects should be considered in seismic design.

Considering the structure type of the steel staggered-truss (SST) system, the effect of infilled walls will be major and need to be studied amply, some scientific design regulations need to be found for referrence. Based on two different 3D models considering or ignoring the stiffness of infilled walls (SIW), a numerical investigation is presented on the structural behaviors of the SST system utilizing the finite element 3D simulation analysis soft ware ETABS. The longitudinal structure is asymmetrical due to the SIW, it causes the torsion forces in the building. Comparing to the different results of response spectrum analysis, including storey drift and equivalent base shear under frequent earth quake and rare earth quake, some conclusions were made, including the capacity of the SST system under seismic load and the effect of the SIW for SST system. The increased base shear force factors due to the effect of the SIW were suggested for SST structure design, it is different from the other steel structure types.

In a developing country like India urbanization and industrialization has accelerated real estate development which leds to scarcity of land. This started the construction of multistorey buildings on sloping ground. Buildings constructed on sloping ground are very irregular and unsymmetrical in vertical and horizontal plane as compared to the buildings on level ground. Also, these buildings on sloping ground require great attention for seismic analysis. The present work studies the behavior of flat slab buildings on sloping ground. For this, G+8 storey 36 different building models with square plan area on sloping ground are considered. The total plan area and mass of the building is kept constant for all models. The sloping angles 0°, 16°, 21° are considered for square plan. The corner and core columns of some models are replaced with shear wall by keeping the mass constant. The response spectrum analysis of all models is carried out using software Etabs17. The study concludes that flat slab building with shear wall at outer periphery of building is preferable than the discontinuous shear wall at core of the building.

Abstract: Many past earthquake studies show that during strong vibrations, the adjacent building structures which are closely spaced to each other are vulnerable to severe damage when the adjacent buildings are not at an adequate distance to accommodate their relative displacements. The primary goal of this research is to find out the minimum separation gap between buildings of varying height at the same floor-to-floor height level. SAP 2000 software is used to analyze the structural behavior of building during the earthquake.Three building models are taken for the study, one is six floors (G+6) and another two are nine floors (G+9), and twelve floors (G+12) respectively. Six floors (G+6)& twelve floors (G+12) structures have the same floor to floor height and plan and same beam and column size (equal stiffness) and G+9 buildings have floor to floor height are same but different beam and column sizes (different stiffness). The linear dynamic (RSA) analysis method is used to calculate the response (Displacement, frequency at fundamental time, Base Shear) of the structure at different floors levels. Response (top story displacements) calculated from the response spectrum is compared with the provisions of seismic gap per story height given in IS 4326: 2005.

The response of the long-span cable-stayed bridges under seismic load is complex. Reasonable methods is very important to analyze the seismic performance. In this paper, a practical project is taken as research background which is double pylon cable-stayed bridge with main span of 416m. Two artificial seismic waves and two seismic records were selected to analyze the seismic behaviors by the response spectrum method, time history analysis method and power spectrum method. The result shows that seismic responses of the girder and main tower are basically identical under the effect of artificial seismic wave. The response spectrum analysis results of them are between the other two methods under the effect of the natural seismic wave. For stay cable, time history analysis results has great difference compared with results of other two methods. Therefore, different methods should be choosed base on specific circumstances to analyse the earthquake response of this structure.
