Abstract: To make the cities greener, safer, and more efficient, Internet of Things (IoT) can play an important role. Improvement in safety and quality of life can be achieved by connecting devices, vehicles and infrastructure all around in a city. We present a waste collection management solution based on providing intelligence to waste bins, using an IOT prototype with sensors. It can read, collect, and transmit huge volume of data over the Internet. Such data, when put into a spatial-temporal context and processed by intelligent and optimized algorithms, can be used to dynamically manage waste collection mechanism. Simulations for several cases are carried out to investigate the benefits of such system over a traditional system

Population growth and urbanization have led to an increase in the rate of waste production, the lack of timely and proper management of which will have adverse effects on human life and the environment. Since most of the waste management costs are spent on waste collection and transportation, it is necessary to find solutions to control the huge costs of this sector. On the other hand, today, intelligent technologies are used globally as solutions to meet challenges in various fields such as agriculture to improve agro-industrial production, transportation, and waste management, which creates a concept called smart cities. One of the categories that has changed the concept of cities and made them have easier and smarter answers to various events and needs is the "Internet of Things", in which many cases and infrastructures with new hardware technologies and Software are integrated. Waste collection is no exception to this rule and efforts have been made to make it smarter. In this research, some of the latest innovations presented globally in order to make trash smarter have been examined.

The Internet of Things (IoT) brings connectivity to about every objects found in the physical space. It extends connectivity not only to computer and mobile devices but also to everyday objects. From connected fridges, cars and cities, the IoT creates opportunities in numerous domains. This chapter briefly surveys some IoT applications and the impact the IoT could have on societies. It shows how the various application of the IoT enhances the overall quality of life and reduces management and costs in various sectors.

Abstract: Sanitation services still not fully cover the urban populationand this leads to different types of pollution and affects the urbanlandscape. This paper aims a geographical approach by highlightingterritorial disparities in the Romanian counties regarding the urbanpopulation access to waste collection services and to examine theenvironmental issues. Statistical database processed by ascendinghierarchical cluster analysis are mapped at the level of Romanian countiesachieving a spatial-temporal analysis for the period 2003-2008. The paperalso discusses the current dysfunctions existing in urban waste managementfrom Romania. Development of waste management facilities is in the processof transition from a traditional system based only on landfilling towardsan integrated waste management system which develops the recycling andrecovery of waste generated. Romania as an EU member country must improvethe quality of sanitation services. Each city must provide the fullcollection of municipal waste generated in order to eliminate the illegaldumping.

In this study, an attempt was taken to identify the issues concerning to regulations and governance which could substantially influence the citizens of India relating to adoption of the Internet of Things. The objective of this study is to highlight the importance of Internet of Things policymaking by the Government of India prescribing proper regulatory frameworks and good governance for effective and successful adoption of the Internet of Things by the citizens of India. An empirical approach has been taken for understanding the impact of IoT policy towards adoption of IoT enabled devices by the citizens of India. Structural equation modeling (SEM) has been used towards analysis of the data collected from three metro cities in India. The study finds out the impact of IoT policy towards adoption of the Internet of Things by the citizens in India and its importance towards improving the quality of life of the citizens of India.

Practical experience of solid domestic waste (MSW) management in Ukraine and developed countries is analyzed. Theoretical volumes of MSW accumulation taking into account statistical factors are studied. The generalized method of MSW accumulation volumes allows forecasting their formation from the factors and evaluating the morphological composition of MSW in the region. The system for optimizing community waste management at the collection and disposal stage with the quality of the optimality criterion has been proposed. The degree of recycling and the costs of collecting and transporting waste should be taken as a criterion for optimising the urban waste management system at the collection and disposal stage. The quality analysis of the waste management system in the Zhytomyr region made it possible to identify the main problems in municipal waste management and the main reasons for their occurrence. The survey shows that the main problem in the area of waste management is the low efficiency of the existing management system, accompanied by the introduction of outdated and inefficient management methods with the lack of effective interaction of all participants in the waste management process and, above all, the lack of public involvement in solving the problem. The authors concluded that at the present time Zhytomyr city and Zhytomyr Region faced the following problems in the area of solid waste management: the number of spontaneous landfills has increased; the number of modern waste collection bins is insufficient and there are no bins for separate waste collection; the quality of solid waste collection services is inadequate; there is no recycling plant in Zhytomyr; large amount of household waste in the city landfill and absence of monitoring of its impact on the environment.

Internet of Things (IoT) can be defined as a thing or device, physical and virtual, connected and communicating together, and integrated to a network for a specific purpose. The IoT uses technologies and devices such as sensors, radio-frequency identification (RFID) and actuators to collect data. IoT is not only about collecting data generated from sensors, but also about analyzing it. IoT applications must, of necessity, keep out all attackers and intruders so as to thwart attacks. IoT must allow for information to be shared, with every assurance of confidentiality, and is about a connected environment where people and things interact to enhance the quality of life. IoT infrastructure must be an open source, without ownership, meaning that anyone can develop, deploy and use it. The objective of this paper is to discuss the various challenges, issues and applications confronting the Internet of Things.
