Purpose Th purpose of this paper is to represent the role of social capital for the knowledge management system (KMS) in the kind of literature which is related to the topics in the creative industry. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses conceptual and literature study with empirical quantitative and qualitative investigation to validate. As some literature states that KMS is an organizational process and tool for acquisition, conversion, application and protection of existing knowledge as a way to use, develop and manage it which comes from internal and external organizations. Findings Literature shows that for some organizations, knowledge is gained through research and development (R&D) of the internal organization. In contrast, the creative industry requires knowledge that is derived from social capital such as social environment and community. The social environment and community (social capital) will provide knowledge that is required for the existence of the creative industry in producing the creative product that may represent the social context in which the creative industry exists. This study uses a meta-analysis as a tool of analysis to classify previous research and studies regarding the roles of social capital for KMS in the creative industry that were used as the cornerstone of the research. Originality/value Studies in the creative industry previously show that knowledge is a collaboration of tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge which is gained from various the creative classes within the industry. As a renewable resource-based industry, creativity, skill and talent are resources that are used to be commercialized to gain wealth for not only big industries but also for micro, small and medium economies (UMKM) that mostly done by communities, to create employment through the exploitation of intellectual property. Therefore, the creative industry can be meant as a knowledge-based industry that requires the application of KMS in its operation.

Abstract.Nowadays, the concept of Knowledge Management is gradually being recognized in governmental establishments which are seeking to deploy their own knowledge management system and make the most of their existing knowledge in policymaking, by creating and maintaining a competitive advantage in the domestic and international environment. For an organisation, the intellectual assets and individual knowledge are as important as the other physical and financial assets. Knowledge is a primary resource featured to provide a competitive advantage to any organization that recognises and incorporates it efficiently in its processes. This article aims to review the value of knowledge management, the pillars by describing its cycle and highlighting its importance for governmental organisations. The obstacles and difficulties of implementing and deploying knowledge management in government organisations with suggested solutions that are also discussed. In conclusion, recommendations for decision makers are presented to enhance the efficiency of the knowledge management implementation and scale up the gain of a lasting competitive advantage within national and international environments.

Innovations can bring desired benefits to organizations if implemented successfully. Managers are a critical factor for influencing employee attitudes and behavior for adoption of innovations. We study employee (n=237) attitudes and behaviors for 13 different manager influence tactics in the innovation implementation phase of an e-learning system, which is regarded as the knowledge management system, in a manufacturing company in Taiwan. With regard to attitudes toward using the e-learning system, the influence tactics of apprising and collaboration were significantly associated with increased attitudes, while exchange and pressure were significantly associated with decreased attitudes. With regard to two separate behavior outcomes of the number of e-learning courses taken and the number of times online, the influence tactics of coalition, collaboration, and pressure all had significant increased associations; while ingratiation, inspirational appeals, legitimating, and rational persuasion all had significant decreased associations. Also, the influence tactics of apprising and persistence had significant increased associations only for the number of e-learning courses taken. Managers attempting to adopt innovative practices should consider the importance of influence tactics when adopting innovative practices in the corporate workplace.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically test the role of knowledge management system (KMS) on the performance of students in higher educational institutions (HEIs). Design/methodology/approach Building on the extensive review of literature, the authors explored the factors of KMS to arrive at the conceptual model which was then validated using structural equation modeling. For the quantitative analysis, data were collected from undergraduate students using questionnaires distributed both through online and offline modes. Findings Empirical evidence supports the view that KMS have a direct and significant impact on the student performance (SP) in HEIs. Research limitations/implications The data are limited to 311 undergraduate students from the University of Delhi, India. Practical implications With the onset of national rankings framework like NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) and the attempt to achieve global recognition in THE (Times Higher Education), Quacquarelli Symonds and other world university rankings, the HEIs are trying hard to improve their performance comprehensively. In such a scenario, this paper provides insights into how HEIs can enhance performance of its students by harnessing KMS. Originality/value The current paper empirically validates the effect of KMS on the performance of students in an educational institution. While the impact of KMS on performance is measured empirically in corporations, such studies are scanty in academic centers. Moreover, while measuring the performance in HEIs using KM, the focus on ranking parameters has never been there. Such an orientation is essential as the rankings are getting wide acceptance from a global audience.

The article determines that at the present stage of the project management development in information-oriented society, the decision-making process on the efficiency of the knowledge management system assessment is complicated, due to the lack of approaches that determine the impact of the system on the project implementation. The article presents the main results of the analysis of the current state of the problem of modeling the knowledge management system of high-tech projects, which helped to establish that one of the factors of the introduction of an effective system of knowledge preservation is the ability to assess the impact of the system on the project environment. In order to solve the problem, the mathematical model of nonlinear dynamics for the analysis of the influence of knowledge management system on the project based on the Bulirsch–Stoer method was proposed, it is possible to evaluate the influence of elements of the knowledge management system on the projected stages of the project implementation and to calculate the duration of the project taking into account their influence. The mathematical model of nonlinear dynamics for the analysis of the influence of the knowledge management system on the Bulirsch–Stoer method is given to evaluate the influence of elements of the knowledge management system on the projected implementation stages and to calculate the duration of the project, taking into account their impact. Bulirsch–Stoer algorithm is a method for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations which combines three powerful ideas: Richardson extrapolation, the use of rational function extrapolation in Richardson-type applications, and the modified midpoint method, to obtain numerical solutions to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with high accuracy and comparatively little computational effort. The step-by-step tracking of the knowledge management system impact on the project development will allow the project manager to predict both its successful completion and the risks of deviation from the scheduled time due to the loss of critical knowledge, which largely stems from the successful implementation of the project.Further research will be aimed at developing a model that allows us to assess the profitability of the system in the design environment, based on the results of the proposed mathematical model.

This study aimed to examine the influence of knowledge management system (KMS) quality on users’ continuance intention. The research model was developed by integrating the concept of DeLone and McLean’s information systems (IS) success model with the expectation confirmation model. To examine the developed model, a survey was conducted with 131 respondents from three companies that had implemented a KMS. The data were analyzed using the partial least square (PLS) method. The study demonstrated that both system quality and information/knowledge quality influence all the factors that drive the continuance intention regarding KMS usage, namely perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and trust. Moreover, satisfaction proved to have an impact on users’ recommendation intention concerning the KMS. Therefore, companies should improve the KMS quality in order to drive employees to continuously use the KMS and recommend it to others.

Understanding knowledge transfer in computer mediated contexts is becoming essential given that organizations are spread more and more globally. In this chapter, the authors adopt elaboration likelihood theory to investigate knowledge transfer processes in a Knowledge Management System (KMS). They report the results of an exploratory experiment conducted to examine the impact of argument quality, source credibility and validation on knowledge usefulness of a document in a KMS. Their findings indicate that while validation of knowledge in KMS positively affects perceptions of knowledge usefulness, higher argument quality was associated with lower usefulness ratings. Surprisingly, source credibility has no effect on perceptions of knowledge usefulness. The implications of these results for both researchers and practitioners are discussed.
